Watching the Tour of California and hearing the different nicknames of the club riders, I was wondering........do you have a nickname?
Our little pelaton gave me the nickname of Rabbit, and lately, The Black Widow.

Brick house :D
Because I used to be competitive in powerlifting and Olympic style weightlifting... Even though I'm much smaller & leaner now, I'm still muscular and heavy for my size- one day on a training ride, the guys on my team started singing the song, and ever since then, it stuck!

Andrea....I'm still looking for a pic of you on your blog. I am intrigued by your sig line (not being a toothpick myself!)....
No nickname for me here (that I'm aware of). Thank goodness....most of them I'm aware of seem to be born of bad habits.
- There is a guy who rides with my LBS who has the nickname "Gap", cuz....well, he's (in)famous for letting a gap open up in front of him in a paceline!
- And another guy we refer to a "Pop" - not because of his paternal nature, but because he'll sprint ahead of everyone at the base of a hill, and then *POP* he blows up (pops) and can't climb, so he soon falls off the back. But come the next hill...there he goes charging to the front again, only to *POP* fall off the back again!!!

Used to call a girl Crossover Lina - could never figure out not to cross the chain over. Also, could never ride a straight line!
My DH calls me Blondie - that doesn't have anything to do with biking, though. He also will refer to me as a bomb (babe on mountain bike) or a bob (babe on bike). My Santa Cruz mtb has my online nick on it "the Little B!tch That Could". And a lot of people, including cycling buds, call me "T". These all really beat "Shorty" and "Spaz" that I enjoyed in high school. :(
Oh, there was a ride we did once when we were in another town and did a ride with a friend of a friend - he was a fit fast climber and *he* called *me* a HammerHead. :D I *loved* that!

I don't have a nickname per se, but one of my riding buddies and I call each other "Girlsteiner" which is a play off of Gerolsteiner's cycling team. We started using "Girlsteiner" as code for our, um, private parts when we went over a rough patch of road and it morphed from there. Silly, I know but it still cracks us up.
My non cycling nicknames are Kick (which is what I called myself when I was little) and Diddler, which morphed from Katydid (my real name is Kate) when I was in college. Try explaining that one!

OK, I wasn't gonna chime in with my embarrassing nickname for the world to see on the web, but after reading that one, mine is nothing! :p
Captain Lizard. Started out in HS during a stint as captain on a swim team. But, that was when my first nephew was born, and my brother thought it was hilarious. Over the years, he taught all four of his kids to call me that.
Once, on the sidewalk in front of their house, one of the kids was about 8, and called, "Goodbye Captain Lizard!" His little friend asked him, "Why do you call her that?" My nephew replied with a puzzled expression, "Because that's her name!" Like, duh!

Since I dressed up as Pippi Longstocking for halloween everyone's been calling me Pippi or Pip.
Otherwise "trouble" has always followed me through the years. Not the action, but everyone seems to think I am.;)

There is a group in the club known as the Mad Dogs. I'm not officially a Mad Dog but I do participate in the centuries they host throughout the season. Last seaon, shortly after my surgery to remove my hair filled dermoid cyst, when one the Mad Dogs inquired about my surgery. I explained what the doctors found and that my cyst was filled with hair. Upon arriving back our cars I was given the Mad Dog nickname of "Hairball." Each and every time I hear someone shout out "Hi Hairball" I can't help but smile and chuckle.

The bike club I'm with gave me the nickname "fruitgirl" b/c the first event I volunteered with them, I had this cooler w/ snacks and whatnot(incl some fruit) enough for everyone and the name stuck. Every now and then if there's an event I'm asked did I bring any goodies. My other new nickname w/ them is Madam Secretary since I'm club secretary now. Jenn

Well, not really..people have tried to use Jeannie on me...I'm not warm at that moment. I truly dislike the diminunitive of my name on me, but on someone else it works...like another cyclist, she's a good friend... but it's her real name.
Unless you count my name in my mother tongue..which it is used in that language and I will respond. It is actuallly a beautiful translation into English : "Precious" or "Highly Treasured" and with my middle name which translates as Orchid. So the 2 together is poetic (to me).
Well, sorry, come to think of it, he calls me Poobie, if it's not dearie.
And I call him....honey-jurgen-bear...... his German, legal first name is Hans-Jurgen (he has an English name)...because he does have honey everyday...
And yea, we call each other these names while cycling..

I turned my nickname into my legal name.
I have a nickname at the dojo, it's not oft used but it's
(insert legal name here) _____a'nator.
I showed up for a ride and introduced as "here's _____a'nator" :D
Some were shocked. I'm 5'1". :p BTW I did not get the nickname by being vicious, I got it from a simply horrific e-mail fauxe pas (sp?) of global proportions
this may come as a surprise, but my nickname is beane.
and mine's Bron :p
Although I was flattered to learn that the rest of my group on a biathlon course were referring to me as the "Power Frau" (I was the only girl there).

Kiki. My real name is Kim and my 11th of 12 nieces/nephews, when first trying to say my name, said it Kiki. And it sort of stuck. Though my mother, God rest her soul, said "why do you let them call you that stupid name". I told her, better than the stupid one you gave me. :) I especially like it when folks put my title on there, cause there is something fun about Dr. Kiki. :) Though I guess not very professional. I also have a few friends that call me Kimbo, Kimba (the white lion for those of my age), and my oldest brother has recently taken to calling me my nickname from when I first started talking - Timmy Annie. :)

I've never had a real nickname. My family used to call me Rob, for Robyn, but that sort of went away after I went to college. My boss calls me that and it used to annoy me until i had to do a writing piece about my name in a workshop. The workshop was run by a very good friend of my boss. When I read my piece, and I said it annoyed me when she called me Rob, the woman said I should tell her. I then realized it was stupid to be annoyed. She doesn't mean anything by it!
My uncle used to call me "Cousin Nybor," which is my name backwards. My younger cousins really liked that when they were little.

From my riding partner. Early last season while out on a training ride, some other rider did something that yanked my chain, I was grumbling, and was harrassed about my grumbling. Then I replied something to the effect that I didn't have any sugar in my morning coffee, but Mike heard, that I didn't have any sugar in my pockets. He wasn't sure why I said that, what sugar in my pockets had do do with anything, and why would I have coffee in my pockets... and I've been called Sugar Pockets ever since.
Some of these are really funny--the ones that have interesting stories behind them remind me of "trail names" that long-distance hikers often have. (Some good ones I have heard are "Sir Pees-A-Lot", "Flameboy", who must have had some sort of accident with his stove, and "Vagus" as in cranial nerve X). I've never really had a nickname other than "Andi" (short for Andrea) when I was little, and that one was really only used by my family.

Wow, funny to see all those different nicknames... I've had a few too...
Badger - while I was still in the Corps had a 1stSgt call me Badger, small and
cute, but vicious when provoked
Motivated B@#ch on wheels - another one from the Corps
Milkbone - was on a call, went back out to the truck to get supplies and a
dog blindsided me and tried to have my thigh for dinner, my EMS
buddies call me milkbone and even came up with a safety kit for
me a, P.E.E.D.D - Paramedic Entry Exit Diversion Device, 2
milkbones in a ziplock with instructions to throw at dog and run
like crazy person. So my last nickname is "Kibbles" some RN's in
the ED have decided to call me that instead of milkbone. LOL:D
Milkbone so far is one that has stuck with a lot of people, heck I answer to it if they can't get my attention any other way

Nothing to do with cycling. My partner uses diminutives Jeannie (not my real name at all), or Dearie or Poopie. Not sure HOW the last one came about. But we do use nicknames on each other while cycling with one another..it makes a great distinctive signal above other people talking around us nearby.
Anyway....I struck upon a great one, one day while I was cycling with him. His real name which is German, Hans-Jurgen. ("J" is pronounced as a "Y" in German). So nickname for him is: Honey-Jurgen. Or Honey-Jurgen-Bear. ...since he genuinely buys and uses real honey to sweeten his yogurt every wk.
My real name in Chinese, is seldom used even by my own family. But when used, it sounds like an endearment/nickname to me. My Chinese real name is translation of: "Precious" or "Highly Treasured".

Nickname update:
I've how been tagged with "legs" and "goat" due to my climbing abilities. I'm also still known as "hairball." I just hope they don't combine them all into one - like "hairy goat legs!" The joys of cycling!

Ah... now I know why you are so wise...
For you have learned, Grasshopper...
"Andemor". It means duck-mother, and was given to me by the 4 friends I spent a year or so in 2003 teaching to rock-climb. We had a blast :) They're all colleagues, and my son still calls them collectively "the ducklings".
Also because I love ducks. They seem so contented. Try to feed them whenever I can :p

In my past life I was a bowler and acquired two nicknames that have stuck (one for 15 years):
Ama- short version of Amanda. The scorekeeper only showed the first three letters. My brother started calling me Ahhh-Muh and it has stuck in my family. So much better than shortening Amanda to Mandy, which I never liked.
KrakHo- seriously. When my husband and I started dating his buddy (who liked me) started calling me that. I don't know why he did it, I think it had something to do with SouthPark but to this day my husband and some of his friends call me that.
My Nanny and Pawpaw always called me Sissy. To this day my Nanny only calls me that. In fact she only called me Amanda one time when she was angry with me.
No one calls my husband by his first name. It is either Alejandro or our last name.

I've had tons of nicknames, but none related to biking, oddly enough.
At some point when I was a kid, I was dubbed GooGoo by my family members. It stuck so badly that for awhile, the whole family revolved around me. My mom was referred to as GooGoo's Mom, my brother was GooGoo's Brother, and so on. Pissed my brother off to no end! :p
When I was in highschool, I was Boo which is part of my maiden name. No one called me by my first name except teachers. In college, that got morphed by a friend into Skidoo - so that stuck for a few years.
On my soccer team, I was Treads. My coach gave me that name the first time I basically ran over an opponent to get to the ball.
When I was living in Boston in my early 20's, I was also called Scoop. That was because I had the bad habit of "scooping" (making out with) guys every single time we went out. :o
At my last job, I was Queen Catherine (or QC). I believe that started out as a derogatory name handed out by a couple of techs when I was super demanding of them before I'd even gotten to know them. After awhile, it stuck...but it became a much more friendly name and everyone in our group used it for me (partly because I was the only woman, too).
My given name is Catherine, but up until I went back to school for my masters in my early 30's, I was Cathy (which I never liked) or Boo (in high school). I believe that Catherine started to stick because that's what the professors called me (when they did roll call) and everyone kind of picked up on it. Now, everyone calls me Catherine including my husband. It actually freaks me out when he calls me Cathy! Actually, my SIL also calls me Cathy and that's super weird since I've only known her for a few years. It makes sense because that's what my brother calls me, but it just feels really odd coming from her!

Had to chime in on this one because luckily it is past me and only comes out on special occasions...
When I was a freshman in highschool my friends and I were swimming. We were yelling and playing when one of my girlfriends popped out of the water and said "What did you call her? Sportwhore?" So that was my nickname from then on. It fit very well... I played every sport under the sun. My friends were not at all athletic so they thought it was funny. And no I was not a "ho" in any way shape or form unless it involved some kind of game. Now it only comes out on reunions with my old pals. And yes I am still a "sportwhore!"
My DD is nicknamed Turtle. Her sister wanted to name her that when she was in my belly. "What do you want to name your baby sister?" She replied "Baby Turtle." So she is now turtle. She is almost 3 and she now says my nickname is Turtle. I think it will stick...Poor thing. Hee Hee!

I've had several. In school I was "berly" there were 2 kimberly's in my grade. She got Kim I got "berly". That turned in to burlap by the bad mean boys.
My grandma and my favorite cousin called me "Kimmie".
My husband calls me whatever he wants to, usually "sexy momma".
We nicknamed our kids.
Son was "Hot Rod" because he was running by 9 months.
Daughter is "Bug" named at day care by other toddlers trying to say Elisabeth.
Her name has very interesting nickname possibilies. You will notice there is no Z so lizard isn't an option like we called my cousin.

My name is Jessica. Usually went by Jessie until much later in life. So, as a kid, the neighbors called me "James"... ie, jesse James. that stuck for years.
My maiden name was Boltz.... and so the "Lightning" for sports.
These days, I answer to Jes, Hon, or Doc., and an occasional Jessie-Loo-Hoo. Ok .. I'll answer to anything if you're calling me for food or martinis!:p
