I've been nagging my friend, Dawn, about buying a bike for months. While Dh and I were out on the tandem once, we stopped by their house and I was actually able to convince her and her Dh to go to the bike shop that very day to "just look". (They were inspired by seeing us on our bike!) She really liked the Ruby. Our other friend, Jenny, has a Ruby of the same exact size she needed, so the next step was getting her to go out on the friend's Ruby with us for a ride. She LOVED it, yet ... wasn't rushing out to buy one. She is very careful how she spends her money and wasn't ready to go out and plunk down that kind of money for a bike and all the stuff to go with it, though she kept saying she was going to.

The other day, Jenny and I planned a 44 mile beach ride. I asked Dawn if she wanted to go with us and then said, "Oh yeah. You don't have a bike. Silly me." :) I told her her assignment for the next day was to call the two bike shops she had previously spoken to about the bike and get the bottom line on who would sell it to her for the best price and then GO BUY IT!!!!!!!!

And you know what? She did!!!! :D Well, she made the deal that day, and I was able to go with her the next day (yesterday) and get it and pick out all the stuff to go with. She was overwhelmed with all the "stuff" and how much it was adding up to, but she actually handed the guy her credit card and it's a done deal. :) I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!! ANOTHER GIRLY RIDING BUDDY!!! Now, if it would stop raining and if I would stop being sick ... she and I could actually go for a ride!

YAY FOR GIRLFRIENDS BUYING BIKES!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

hey, me too! my best friend from Junior Highschool bought a bike last week.
Her hubby wanted her to get a cruiser (hey, she's an out of shape grandma) but i talked her into getting a lighter more fun bike. So she got a specialized expedition, a nice little hybrid! and she loves it. Too bad she lives on the opposite end of the country from me. :(

Congratulations Jiffer! Now go easy on her! Her first ride shouldn't be 44 miles if she hasn't been riding a lot! :) We want her to love it! Let us know how her first ride goes though!

I'm jealous too! I wish my friend would get a bike and start riding but it's more likely that pigs will fly before she will ride a bike!

Enjoy your friend and your rides together!

Yipee!!! I'm excited for you. I've actually gotten a friend as far as the LBS to test ride a couple. She seemed to have fun, just need to keep gently encouraging her.
