I just registered for Cycle Across Maryland (http://www.onelesscar.org/CAM/2008/), which will be held at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg on July 24-27.
Last year I met a great group of women and had a ball...and did my first (and last) century. Anybody else going to be there?

hmmm, you got me thinking, as I have no events planned for July...
You know I will. It's right in my backyard!

Interesting.
The second day would certainly be good training for the Civil War Century in September!
Is it a straight line ride, or do all rides start and end from MSM?

If they do it like they've done it in the past, the rides start and end at the college.
I noticed on the website that this is the last year that One Less Car is sponsoring Cycle Across Maryland. I wonder who, if anyone, will do it in the future.

I would LOVE to do this! It sounds like a wonderful ride and lots of fun. Unfortunately I think I am supposed to be in Bal'more (Hon) for a week-long training 25 - 28. I won't find out for sure for a couple months. :(:(:(

I have an empty apartment and one nice air mattress if you don't want to stay at the dorm. sleeps up to six but only one shower. No ac or tv. Hey, it's free.

hmmm... maybe I could do one day - I hope to spend a couple weeks in Michigan christening the new house - it's supposed to be finished "in July." Framing starts in a couple weeks. I'm very excited! Emmitsburg is more or less on the way so maybe I'll ride one day, then continue on the trip west.
Registration complete!
Those are going to be some really nice rides.

Methinks Janice is in the 8 hour AL per PP, yes?? :p;) That's cool...so am I.
I sent the link to Tom. I may be up for it. I've got a 400 mile goal in July, and this would go a long way towards helping me reach it.

8 hours of annual leave per pay period.
Hmm.
Guess not.

Ahh, yes, you're right, I do get 8AL/PP. I just wasn't in a work mindset when reading this so I was trying to figure out what bike abbreviations those were.

I had so much fun as a part of the group of women that divingbiker mentioned that I signed up for 2008, EVEN THOUGH THE COURSE WILL BE FULL OF HILLS! My Eastern Shore conditioning may prepare me for the caving or for the short rides.
It was a lot of fun last year and hopefully, it will be even more fun this year.
If I can do them anyone can.
I get up that way on club rides sometimes but this is so exciting to be able to get together with youz guise.

I had the honor and pleasure to ride with Janice and Regina (I think!) a couple of years ago out 'round Poolesville. It was a delightful ride, rather hilly as I recall. I've since had Major Life Changes and no longer live in the area. I'm sure y'all will have a great time.

Actually, I think it was my friend Bridget and I who rode with you. I've wondered what happened to you, and was happy to see you reappear on TE.:)

Right, Bridget! Yeah, life took over, in a very big way. I do miss DC and especially my commute. How are the pups?

Unfortunately, not so good. Cassie died in October 2006, from mast cell cancer. Remy is hanging in, but has masses in his lung and liver and several other age-related ailments. His life is measured in weeks now, I'm afraid. Bailey's still going strong despite his kidney disease. Thanks for asking!

So, this is hilly? Do you all stay in the dorms? I'm thinking about it...what is the weather like...this is my first year to live on the East Coast.

Those dogs had (and Bailey still has) great care by you; they are lucky dogs! It's hard to lose pets. When I separated from my ex, he got our parrot that we had for 10 years. He still has him, and I'm glad because I travel alot now, but I do miss him (the parrot, and sometimes the ex, too :o)
I won't be doing the ride, but I hope you all have fun. I'm signed up for the TarWheel Century in April. Guess I better get riding...

So...Luv'nAustin is leavin' Austin, eh? ;)
I just saw a post on our local MTB site from someone in Austin coming to the area.....was that you?
Welcome to the area, and do check here for get-togethers...mtb and road rides and more.
Oh, BTW....can't tell you much about CAM'08 except for the day 2 route appears to be in the area of the Civil War Century, which is very hilly (~7,500' in 103 miles...but this route may not have all of that).
p.s. Oh, and weather in this area....in July (is that when this is?)...hot and sticky. Absolutely disgusting, unless you like 95's...as in 95 degrees and 95% humidity! Blech.
I know the photo is HUGE but I'm not resizing it right now:o
Second floor to let, rental fee=zero.
No loud parties unless I'm invited.

Awesome house, Zen! I just wanna come live there! (is that snow from yesterday?) Do you know we didn't get a flake? It was all around us but nothing here in Madison. Tonight, now that's another story.....

That's very generous of you, Zen! But I've already registered and paid for housing, and I'm not sure I could deal with driving 17 miles each way every day--I really hate to drive!

Leavin' Austin...That would be a good new name! Oh, but I already left! :o I'm in North Carolina now...and waiting for the weather to warm before I start my cycling season. I guess I've turned into a cold weather wimp after living in Arizona and Texas for a few years!
Really happy to be here and so excited about all of the rides on the east coast that seem close enough to consider...just nervous about the humidity, rain and the hills... wondering if I could do them without a tripple.
Humidity is good for you ;)

Summer cycling mantra: "I love heat. I love humidity. I love trying to breathe in thick air." Repeat as often as needed....

The Tar Wheel Century is on April 26 and is FLAT. It's in Elizabeth City, NC. I'm from NC, so if you have any questions, give a holler.

I can't this year, it's my wedding day.
But if y'all will wait until May 10, the Cap2Cap is also totally flat....and there will be several TE'rs there....
