Has anyone found a long (or short, I guess) sleeved jersey (not jacket or vest) that is VERY high visibility, but also decently cut and perhaps a little tiny bit less ugly? Like maybe another color around the collar or something? Or curvy accent colors? (Hopefully no elastic at bottom...)

Our traffic has increased a gazillion-fold, and the level of driving seems to be going downhill at the same time.

I want a truly high visibility jersey I can wear this spring and summer more or less day in and out on the bike; and, of course, I hate wearing ugly jerseys! ;)

Thanks for any recommendations.

This isn't ugly at all :p, (but it is a little spendy):

Not sure if this is truly "hi-viz" yellow but it looks pretty bright.

Terry is worth a try, they make lots of hi-viz year round (not quite as stylish as the Exte Ondo option though).

Also PI is a good bet for hi viz. I hate PI jerseys though. They're always too short for me.

I see this one at PI...would sure like to find a long sleeved one. I want my arms visible for signaling, and I hardly ever need a hot weather jersey.

I would just like to find a truly hi viz, long sleeved jersey with pockets, etc.

I like the various "Night Life" his-vis gear by Brooks. Terry sells some of it:
http://www.terrybicycles.com/product.html?idc=b7515a0770
So does Footlocker.com, which has some at a slightly cheaper price.

It's as hi-vis as it gets. ;)

Thanks...this looks like very bright stuff! I'm puzzled as to why they don't seem to have one in a true cycling jersey, with pockets, etc. Just the runner's type tops, it looks like?

If you'd be willing to try men's jerseys, check out the Nashbar & Performance men's sections, there are a few hi-vis and/or bright yellow long-sleeved jerseys there:
http://www.nashbar.com/results.cfm?category=6000137&subcategory=60001206&storetype=&estoreid=&init=y&pagename=Category%3A%20Clothing%20%2D%20Men%27s
http://www.performancebike.com/shop/sub_cat.cfm?subcategory_id=1111

Team Cyclist & Colorado Cyclist both have a few bright yellow long sleeve jerseys for men (but not necessarily that weird "hi-viz" color). They might be more stylish.

I got two nice high vis shebeest jerseys at sierra TP, both long sleeve. One in yellow http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/,86469_Shebeest-DriStyle-Retro-Cycling-Jersey-Long-Sleeve-For-Women.html and one in orange http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/,18986_Shebeest-Retro-Cycling-Jersey-Long-Sleeve-For-Women.html, both w nice accents.

The yellow one is a little lighter weight than the orange. Another option for commuting is to get either a yellow wind vest, or I got the PI vagabound jacket in screaming yellow, so then I can wear whatever jersey I want. Its a versatile piece, if its cool in the am I'll wear it with sleeves on, but if it warms up I'll zip off the sleeves to ride home. They are on sale right here at TE.

Here is a short sleeve option at stp: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/,24780_Shebeest-Retro-Cycling-Jersey-Short-Sleeve-For-Women.html (I have this jeresy too and its nice)

and here is a wind vest also at stp: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/,54658_Shebeest-Elemental-Wind-Vest-For-Women.html (I used to have this, nice vest but not so visible from behind as the PI ones)

Like Lisa, I'm a fan of the Brooks high-viz line. I have one vest and two jackets---all of which get used regularly. In fact, it's a rare ride now that I don't have Brooks as my top layer, simply because it's soooooo eye-catching.

I have a PI jacket and vest too---also in screaming yellow---but the Brooks stuff is even brighter.........

I wish Brooks made a cycling-specific top with pockets, but they do at least make short-sleeved and long-sleeved jerseys that *might* do in a pinch........

Here's a link to a short-sleeved Brooks Nightlife jersey that I don't think Terry carries: http://www.runbargains.com/browse.cfm/4,996.htm. On sale at the moment, too.

Also, Starfish, take a look at this jersey on Terry's website: http://www.terrybicycles.com/detail.html?item_no=1991 I have it and while it's not *the* brightest chartreuse/yellow, it's definitely eye-catching and has a nice cut. It's also on sale, always a plus!

I just got one of these from TE. It's not the most attractive thing in the world and it isn't truly hi-viz, but it is bright yellow and it has pockets, and it's cheap. Bellwether Venus jersey (http://www.teamestrogen.com/products.asp?pID=11298)

I am glad to see PI has brought the hi-viz stuff back for '08, though. They took them out of the product line for the last couple of years.

Thanks, all. Looks like it might be hard to find a truly hi viz jersey.

I have hi viz jacket and vest. I'm looking for a truly hi viz training jersey, with pockets and good fit.

I want it for all those times when I really don't want to be wearing my jacket or vest due to temperature or exertion...but when I REALLY feel like I want to be visible. Mountain climbs. Our roads with logging trucks, etc. It is very hard now for me to find training rides that have good shoulders and/or low traffic.

As a driver, I know that there is a big difference for me in seeing regular yellow, and screaming hi-viz yellow...especially when I have a lot competing for my attention.

Thanks everyone.

I bought a nice high vis jersey from LL Bean for hubby. It drapes nicely and has a relaxed cut, not the pro or club fit. It comes in long and short sleeve. And the price is nice too.

I have a short sleeve jersey. The only downside to this jersey is it has one large pocket in the back--not 3.

I was surprised to find it at LL Bean. Of all the jerseys, the LL Bean jersey is hubby's favorite. Our LBS is considering stocking this jersey because the fabric is very similar to the Trek line of jerseys, yet is much easier on the pocketbook. It really wicks well and the cut is just right for shaplier cyclists. :)

Oh, and since we started wearing high vis when we cycle, motorists have been much more accomodating. The high vis is truly high vis and hubby said he could see me at least 3 miles up the road.

Yeah when I wear my Brooks NightLife screaming yellow stuff, I get motorists all the time telling me happily out of their windows that they could see me from a mile away. It's a win/win situation for both cars and cyclists.

I know...but what about the way the hi-viz clashes with the beet-red of my face when I finally roll into the rest-stops, cafes, etc?

(I wish there was a hi-viz color that was also pretty to wear...)

Better to wear Hi-vis screaming yellow and clash a bit than to be hit by a car....not very pretty at all.

Hi, Starfish.......In case you're at all interested in the Brooks Nightlife jerseys, I stumbled on a good deal on that line today at www.shoebuy.com. Today only, 20% off, plus free shipping, using a code. The real deal is the Nightlife jacket for women---with the discount it's @$46. Full retail is $80. I just snagged two long-sleeved Nightlife jerseys in the $30-40 range, plus a short-sleeved one for $32......Good luck and be safe out there!! You're my inspiration for tackling hills!

Can anyone tell me how true to size the LL Bean Women's jersey runs? They show an XL as 18-20 on the size chart, which is what I'm wearing these days. The price looks good, and I like the idea of the relaxed fit. I'm just leery as stuff doesn't always fit the way they say it will.

Starfish

I can't answer the question about LLBean fit, but I think I might go with the hi-viz version of this jersey:

LL Bean will take things back, no questions asked. They make it easy too with a postage paid return label.

I have a size medium cycling jersey from them that fits quite well.

I also have a GE jersey that I really like Starfish. I have the Popsicle, and I've been really happy with the quality of it. I'd get that jersey you're looking at in red, but that's just 'cause it's my favorite color.

Hey, that's a nice review V, good to know. Thanks.

If I had to pick a color, it would be the light blue. :) Alas, soon (I hope) I will be out riding my mountain road with leftover gravel, almost no shoulder, lots of curves, and lots of tourists looking anywhere but at the road ahead. I need hi-viz. :(

I have a few of their jerseys, esp the hi-vis type. They fit on me relaxed or close fitting but does not strangle. There are no elastic edges. Some see this as either a pro or con. I usually where a large, and I ordered a large and there has been no problem.

Like V says, they have a great return policy and will work to get the item right for you. I love Bean.

Happy shopping!!:D

PS: Get this...the jersey I found and want is called...wait for it...the Starfish! :D

I was looking at the screen, and I saw the word Starfish on the side, and I'm thinking...wow, this internet stuff is getting weird...how did they get this?

But no...it is just the model name of the jersey! Weird. I have to get it.

That is a very flattering design, Starfish. I think you *deserve* a nice jersey like that.

My hubby surprised me with a LL Bean blue/white jersey. I really like the cut and I'm getting used to the single large pocket. However, it does hold odor (polyester, wah!) even on a short ride and I'm disappointed with that. Otherwise, it's a very nice jersey for the money. The yellow version is the same color as the Pearl Izumi Screaming Yellow.

LL Bean jerseys sure are ugly, but my LL Bean one is about the best cut for me that I've found. I don't like elastic waists and I want it to drape over my hips, not hug my waist and hips.

The XL from LL Bean fits me well, the way I want it to. It might be tight on someone who really needs a size 18-20. I'm a 16.

I've been wondering if I could buy some more and put some kind of iron-on transfers on them to make them more tolerable. But I'm guessing the polyester would melt.

That Starfish Ground Effect jersey IS terrific-looking. The cut is really nice. Does anyone have the limelight version? On my desktop screen it yells "Look at me, wooohooo!" but on my laptop screen it's a much more muted yellow-green.

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL! Caught me red-handed, Jane! I need to lock my credit cards away before I look at any of the apparel or gear-related threads on TE! I just bought a $150 headlight for my bike earlier this week! I bet-ta do a whole lot o'night riding in the next couple of years to justify it! It arrived earlier today. Talk about high-viz! The light is tiny but the beam is so bright that if I aim it to the sky north of town, you'll probably see it at your place on Moonshine Mountain, 40 miles away.:D

But, seriously, does anyone have this jersey in the green??:D:eek::p Ok, Ok, I promise NOT to buy one, LOL!;)

I wanted to know the same thing. I emailed them. This is the answer I got, along with the same online picture of the jersey. To me, it looks like a soft yellow rather than a hi-viz neon green. Here is the response I got:

Thanks for your email. Yes it is a Yellowish/Greenie colour the Starfish (just as pictured).... Because it is a Polycotton blend it isn't quite as bright as the Microfibre fabric used in the shell wear. I hope this helps.

I didn't find it too helpful. I'm thinking the jersey is not hi-viz.

starfish..The Ground Effect jersey is not super duper HI Vis BUT..the logo thing on the front & back plus the line thingies down the arms are very very visibile if a car's following you.

THe shorts are the same.

Give it a shot, you can always send them back!
