I feel your pain! It was 70 today here in central NC and of course I was stuck at the office. Wahhhhhhh! I did get out at noon and take a nice walk, but I sure would have liked to take a nice long bike ride. Sigh.... :(

Yes ladies, here in Raleigh it's 60 degrees, and I'm home with 2 sick kids. We live in a random universe.

At least that's what it's been doing on the weekends here. The past 3, 4, I forget how many weeks it's been now, have had OK days in the middle, but ALL the weekends have been rainy. All day. Both days.
Well, until this week. Sunday was awesome...and it was my turn to be with kiddo while hubby rode. Monday awesome, me chained to desk, then to previous after work commitment. Finally got in 51 minutes of riding today after work... in glorious 80 degree sunshine :D !!!
Long weekend ride? Ain't gonna happen. More rain in the forecast. Sigh.

oh I feel your pain... here in the land of endless sun, we've had RAIN... lots and lots of rain... enough to end a 7 yr drought and cause homes to slide off hills and hills to slide ONTO homes...
and it's beautiful M-Thurs while I'm at work then dumps buckets every fri/sat/sun  I haven't ridden since my century 2/5... and it's lovely out today but the forecast is for RAIN ALL WEEKEND!!!! grrrrrrr......
I have the whole week off. It rained Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday afternoon, my dad was released from the hospital but too weak to stay alone. I brought him home to stay with me for a few days. The rest of the week is supposed to be cold and snowy/icey. Yeah, I'm loving February. I guess the bright side is that I was home and able to care for dad.

barb... sending T's and P's for your dad... hope he will recover OK... my mom had a major surgery last October... 3 vertebrae fused in her neck... and recovered at my place... it was nerveracking and exhausting. Took her a while to be stable enough to do basic things alone... like using the bathroom. She is doing great now and I'm soooooo glad she was able to stay with me to recuperate...

We had 4 days of 60 deg here last week and I had to have gone out riding the night before. I got a cold and had to rest it all off. :o It was 30 the day I got better.
At least it was 60 for a lunch ride today, though I literally had to outrun a cold front thunderhead to get back to work dry  now it's 23  summer will come. So will the races :)

I hear ya---I felt that same pain on Tuesday and Wednesday when the DC metro area was having spring-like temps. Irony of all, I called in sick to work because I have the flu, so even though I was at home, I felt too lousy to ride (still feel lousy). Try to think on the positive side: you don't have this awful bug that's making the rounds and if you bundled up a little, you still could get out there. :D

We were in the 60's on Tuesday as well. I pulled in some comp-time and went for a 3 lovely 3 hour ride (on the road; the trails are still too muddy).
Ok, I'll shut up now.... :p

sure go ahead and rub it in  yesterday was 58 today is 41  plus I feel like I am getting my chest cold back, it has been hanging around for 2 weeks now, felt like it was ending, now today I am back to a funny feeling in my chest and coughing.
I may take a few days off and do just a little pedaling on the trainer, I have to get rid of this, only 8 weeks until my DU
Whew...Dad is back at his place. Son is at a friends but it is 30 out and a really cold wind is blowing :( .
I compromised and brought my bike in for the long overdue purchase of clipless pedals. I'm sure more falling down stories will follow.

Here in the "sunny" South we've had almost daily rain for weeks now. Last Saturday was gorgeous; I had the bike in the car, all ready to go...and then the stomach bug hit, accompanied by 102 fever. So much for that. Got well just in time to go back to work on Monday.
Finally got out yesterday for a good ride...only one hour but lots of hill work. Bike is new (and I'm new to biking) but I was thrilled to see I'd hit 31.5 mph. :D Fun! Got to the parking lot, stopped, and fell over. Scratched the elbow but not the bike. :)
Raining again today, rain forecast all week. Y'all hang in there. Only one more week of February!

Yeah only one more week in February and I need 51 more miles and 1 more climb up Diablo to meet my goals for the month. The mileage I'll get no problem. But it's supposed to rain today and tomorrow and next weekend isn't looking so great either.

I DID scratch up the new road bike--on both handlebars above the brakes. :( Well, it'll make a good story.
So today I try to get out and had made my first of three planned 5-mile loops when I stop for water to see that my little pack behind my seat was unzipped. No cell phone! Driver's license and multi-use tool still there. I rode back home and there was the cell phone right where I left it on the stairs.
I head back out and, you guessed it...more rain.

Well its kinda comforting to know it isn't just me
This past w/e was cool and very windy we worked on putting electric fence up in our pasture, we have a huge hill that I climbed 3-4 times so that was my work out Sat. plus 5-6 hours of trimming briars and honey suckle off the fence, my arms are still sore. Sun I hit the gym for a killer interval workout on the treadmill and today is my off day, guess what?????? 60's today then back to 40's on Tues. Please tell me March will be better!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I was going to start a topic about rainy weekends and beautiful weekdays - but figured people with snow would be put off. :p
And I have vacation time to use or lose - but can't get away from the job. And I'm a University employee! What's wrong here?
(and we did NOT get president's day off - I think we traded it for Martin Luther King day so that Arizona could get the Superbowl - or some such dumb reason...)

OK so yesterday I aborted ride to find the stupid cell phone (belongs to work) and came in early, not much of a workout, and it was windy and spitting rain.
Today? Monday? 75 and sunny. I kid you not. And my husband has the flu so I'm about to take him to the dr, poor guy. February stinks.
I tested out a new bike on Sat. On Sunday it snowed ALL day. In fact, I got a snowday off today. Eight more inches on the ground. I'm starting an aerobics class tonight. Hope that cheers things up...some how I don't think it will ;)

:D here's wishing everyone WARM DRY DAYS SOON.
I FINALLY smartened up  I stuck my mtn bike in my van, just in case it actually is 58 when I get off work today, I will change here are work and drive to the local running/biking park and do a few laps - I only need to ride about 30-40 min today ( I did 65 in the trainer this a.m.). My only problem is my son rode that bike last and the seat is down too far for me :( I HOPE that I left that wrench in the van so I can fix it!

Its 63, I have my bike and they told me to leave early since I didn't take lunch today or yesterday :D :D :D :D :D :p hehehehehe. I don't usually get off until 5:30, she said leave at 4:00, don't have to tell me twice.

It was a great ride - considering - the weather was perfect, I had on 2 t-shirts and a vest I didn't even realize until I finished that I had sweated, I ended up riding for an hour all over the place, we have some major hills here and lots of nice riding around town. I was really uncomfortable with the seat so low but got over it, altho my back is very sore today. I thought I had a wrench to change it but I must have taken it out of my van. I even looked around for a garage so I could ask to use one they had, I never found one.
I am not real familiar with the area. I just let my thighs burn! I am amazed at the hills I can climb now! I remember last year how I could barely make it up some of these hills, now I just pedal on up them, it feels good to realize all that work/training has paid off.
I wonder, I have an old Sears mtn bike, very good condition the man barely rode it, I need to change seats, will a road bike seat be ok? I also do some mtn bike races, also should I put toe clips on a mtn bike? I have clipless pedals on my road bike and I use mtn bike shoes, I am not sure I would like clips on the mtn bike. Any suggestions?

Use the saddle that you like. The only things you may want to consider is that road saddles tend to be wider and have a long nose. Makes it hard to got off the back of the seat on steep down hills and a long nose can spear your chamois when trying to mount on a downhill. You move around a lot more on a mountain bike so saddle comfort is no where near the problem it is for roadies.
You like clips on the road? Stick with them on the mountain. In a fast (ie., panic) stop your feet are going to go with the memorized action and you'll twist your foot to the side. With cages, you MUST pull your foot backwards and if you twist instead? Be prepared to tuck and roll :p . I personally like to go for style points when I fall. You may want to start with a mtb pedal that has a bit of a platform (like Candies) so you'll have a bit of support if you're not clipped in.

That sounds good, my LBS has Shimano parts. thanks :)

I swear by the shimano 424 and similar pedals. They feel like normal bmx pedals unless you have the shoes with the cleat and/or place the cleat in the right place. I like the fact they are same on both sides as well.
