I'm trying to be grateful for at least one thing every day (my quest to be more optimistic). Everyone please join in!! Today's :):D:)
Fiona's stitches are looking good & she isn't licking them (newly spayed golden retriever puppy extraordinaire)
It's sunny outside and there are some signs of spring, despite the cold (crocuses!!)
I got in a 50 miler--outside--this morning and there was NO ICE.
I don't have to go back to work until Thursday and have only seven (7) more days left in my horrible assignment.

Let's see...
- I am going on a ride this afternoon with a new cycling buddy.
- The issue with the brakes jumping on the Four-runner ended up being nothing more than a tightly jammed rock. Nothing expensive to have repaired, thank goodness.

Oh! Great thread! Thanks for starting it and may it go on and on!
Besides being thankful to you, VB, for starting this, one long-term thing: I have a husband whom I love dearly, and who loves me.
And one short-term thing: I'm starting to finally get over this bronchitis, I actually rode the commuter bike to Pilates class this morning and so far I don't feel any worse! Maybe even a little cardio tomorrow I hope I hope I hope!
This may seem odd but my brother, sister and I commenced to cleaning out our mom's house today to sell it.
I enjoyed the time with them.

I love laughter and what it can do for a home.
I love the innocence of my children.
When those two can collide, I am very thankful.
Last night, I got such a blessing - my youngest daughter was playing "Rock Band" on the XBOX and came upstairs to tell us that she had just passed "THE hardest song - Juice Box Hero!!!"
We laughed and have been singing "Juice Box Hero, got straws in his eyes" all day.
I love the idea of this thread - I love to practice thankfulness and being content with what I have! Thanks for starting this..................
For the younger crowd, the song lyrics are actually "Juke Box Hero, Got Stars in His Eyes"

VB what a wonderful idea for a thread!
I am thankful for TE because I have met some of my best cycling buddies here - and even get to meet them in the flesh sometimes...like today!
I am also thankful that I am able to get out in the fresh air and enjoy the beautiful world from my bike.

I heartily second Jane's sentiments!! In part, because she and I met for the first time today and enjoyed a 27.5 mile ride together on her home turf's glorious backroads! Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance; old churches and homes around every curve; cows aplenty; and a beautiful small river running through it all for most of our journey. And a mostly FLAT route, LOL!! It doesn't get much better than that! :)
Edit: This IS a great idea for a thread! One of my New Year's rez this year is to end each day by naming at least three things I'm grateful for. Just to remind myself that no matter how bad a particular day might be, there's always *plenty* of good stuff, too.

VB,
Every morning when I wake up I think of all that I am grateful for. It usually includes: my boyfriend, my house, my health, my family. It is good to make a habit of saying thank you to the universe. When you show gratitude, more good things will come your way, just wait and see!
Cheers,
Kate:)

Today's :D
Got in another 50 miler outdoors this morning, no ice, didn't get cold--even hands/feet stayed comfortable;
Legs are getting very strong from all the big-gear drills;
Fiona's stitches are healing up and the incision isn't seeping, like I thought it was this morning;
Temps are rising so the predicted rain won't turn to ice.

Today I am thinking about the Silver family's funeral, and I am thanking the Lord for the time I got to spend with my own Mom and Dad before they went.
I thank Him for those moments last night in the woods of deep silence with the moon on the mountains and the snow, to clear my head for the coming week.
I thank Him for truly caring colleagues who care about me as a human being before they care about me as a mortgage LO or coach.
And, as my Mom used to say..."You know, I love men, but I thank God I'm not one!" LOL, me too, Mom! :)

I like this post a lot!
About 10 years ago I suffered from heart palpatations that were caused by me. I had to learn to calm down and take a breath. I took on yoga (still doing it to this day) and changed certain things in my life. I started walking (I now ride instead of walking) and really learned to control my emotions. This grateful thing was one of the things that helped me. Every day no matter what I wrote 5 things I was grateful for even if it was the same things every day. I did this for about 3 months and I swear it really helped me a lot! So we should try and keep this thread going as long as we can cause i think it really helps!

Stephen King, into whose books I can lose myself and be entertained (I've been a fan since "Carrie" was first published, back in the day)

Our year-round sun room, where I work out with Coach Troy. Warm & dry when it's nasty outside;
My fluffy Patagonia fleece cardigan, which I'm wearing to work today. Its good vibes will hopefully serve as a "anti-Strega shield" during the big meeting I have scheduled today. May it allow me to deflect all of La Strega's backstabbing, nasty ways and prevail over her machinations;

I just found this thread ... Very nice!
Today was fun, a short but pleasant ride on a clear sunny day, with friends and lunch with them after. Portland Int'l Raceway was repaved over the winter, and they had "open house" today. Walkers from 10am to 11am, bikes and walkers sharing the road from 11am to one, then the cars and motorcycles after 1pm. Brand new smooooooth pavement for our bicycle races this year will be wonderful!!!

Thankful that I didn't get hit on the road today by the reckless (and they think drunk) kid who crashed his car just a way down the road.
Thankful to the nice fireman who took pity on me after over an hour of standing there, sweat-drenched and freezing in the cold, darkening afternoon.
The Staters were letting a lot of people walk around, including some locals who lived there, but they wouldn't let me through, even after the ambulances were gone, and after a bunch of people had walked around all over the site.
That fireman said, "Don't look around, just follow me, then disappear." I was freezing cold, and he helped me get on my way, only 20 minutes back to my car. It was the very end of my ride.

For being able to ride outside before work. No ice, no rain, not too cold
For having only THREE more days left in my current assignment (the one from hell) and therefore, only THREE more commutes all the way out to Herndon
For my rad, comfy Frye harness boots, which are my choice of footwear w/skirts during the winter.

Oooh, no, I don't do any wrenching! I look at the muscle recruitment and the posture and skeletal positioning, then say "Hmm, here's what's happening now, here's what would likely happen if your mechanic moved this piece." and then I send the rider to their mechanic with my suggestions.

I'm grateful for my friend D (calling her my boss just seems weird), who stocks the freezer with Annie's frozen entrees so I don't have to carry my lunch when I commute. She also washes the clothes I leave there. She makes it much easier for me to ride.

I am BOYOBOY! thankful that our local ballet company has a jazzy new ball of fire for a director, and that we got to go see the Director's Choice performance last night. Thank you!! For livening up the dance scene and bringing exciting new works to the company. Yeeha. Good stuff.
I'm grateful for Wahine. Because of her amazing virtual PT abilities (and some of my determination) I astounded my friend when she saw me today.

I'm grateful I haven't snapped at the woman who is obsesessed with me. From her behaviour it appears she has a crush on me, but she expresses it in very negative ways.
I'm grateful I can remember what it was like to be living in denial of my orientation, and can scrape up some pity for her and her actions. (but lawrd, it's tough to stay calm)

I'm so grateful that our beloved 15+ year-old German Shorthaired Pointer is enjoying another springtime and walked over a mile with DH today. It's exactly 8 months since we brought her home from doggie ICU and surgery for a malignant insulinoma, and we almost lost her then. Although we recognize that she's on borrowed time, today was a very good day.

Since I've moved here my back gate has had a padlock secured to a bolt with a chain. That just keeps honest people honest, as the saying goes. Which meant when I get home I park the car, say "hi" through the gate to the mutt, then walk around to the front.
This caused Mae to whine "where'd she go? She was just here"
I'm grateful for my new back gate lock. Now I can walk right in the back door. And so's Mae.

I'm so grateful to be home in springtime.
For the scent of my apple tree blooming and the sound of the bees buzzing all around it. For the smell of the soil and new-mown grass. The sound of the house wrens singing their tiny little heads off from their nest in my clothesline. The barred owl hooting its hoo-wah call last night - first time I'd heard a barred here in years, since the West Nile virus decimated all the raptors. For the treasure trove of morels I found the other day. The delicate green of trees budding new leaves. The sound of little streams running, frogs peeping. Dogwoods and daffodils, May-apples and Jack-in-the-pulpit.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everything and everyone that allows me to be here now.

I felt the need to revive this thread today, since there seems to be a lot of tension in the air today.
I'm glad my dad's still hanging on. He's one tough cookie. He's lived his life on his terms, with music, love and the greatest joy for life of anyone I know. I hope he gets to go home from the hospital soon (but not too soon, my stepmother needs a break!). He seems to be getting things all wrapped up for a good end to what's been an interesting and fun filled life. He always followed his heart, whether it was the right thing to do or not, and I understand and respect that! It's left him with some regrets, but maybe it's better to have regret for what you did than what you didn't do.
I'm happy to have heard from my long lost half-brother yesterday. We hadn't spoken in 20 years :eek:. I was just a kid last time he saw me. We never had a fallout or anything, just circumstances never brought us together until now. Well, I'm glad he's still my brother. We had a good talk. I'm glad he reconciled with our father. He's going to be glad he did, too.

Thanks so much to cycling-sarah, who today found the red presta valve cap that I lost yesterday while changing my flat. I know I don't need it, but I cherished that little guy. Just when I was about to give up on the seemingly impossible task of finding it in the grass on the side of the road, she found it. It's good to have friends with eagle eyes, who don't think it's dumb to have sentimental attachments to valve caps ;)

There's this little boy who walks a little dog down my block. He's probably 9 or 10 years old, and he has a lot of style; he's so dapper in his fedora hat. I've never spoken to him, but I see him with his dog, and notice he lets the dog take as much time as he needs, in all weather. He'll let the dog sniff a leaf for 5 minutes in the rain. He seems so kind, and you can just see his love for his dog. This kid gives me hope for our future.
