Well, The Awakening is moving on (http://www.wtop.com/?nid=598&sid=1345071). :( Glad I got to see it when I did with the first - and second - TE-DC Tour of DC rides.

I saw this in the paper today, and thought the same thing--I'm glad I got to see it on our rides. Seems a little sad...

That is sad. I never got to see it and it's very extremely highly unlikely I'll see it in PG County :(

Well I've certainly driven by but have not had the opportunity to go examine it up close. If I didn't already have plans this weekend I'd say let's go on Sat and check it out one last time by bike. But there's still time for the rest of you DC types. Well if you go, give it a wave for me.

Regina, do you have the picture of us in the giant's hand you can post?

I agree---moving it is a shame. It looked so perfect at Hains Pt.

I thought I did, but I don't seem to have one in the links from our June (http://s193.photobucket.com/albums/z85/7rider/Washington_DC_June23/)or November (http://s193.photobucket.com/albums/z85/7rider/Washington%20DC%20Nov%203/)rides....
Here are some of us exploring the head.

I think it's silly they are moving it to PG County. Who is going to see it up there?

Hey now, let's not start the PG bashing:rolleyes:! I lived there for three years and have a bit of PG pride left. Is it going to National Harbor across the Potomac from Alexandria? If so, there will be lots of people to see it. Also, the new Wilson Bridge is supposed to have a bike path across the river, so you, too, can get there from the Mount Vernon Trail. The only problem is that there are spotty trail connections on the Maryland side, but there's folks working to fix that.

Here I am! Hello Everyone......This thread caught my eye today and these pictures were a great reminder of our fun monument tour! I'm glad we were able to see The Awakening that day as it's unlikely that I'll make it to PG either. (I wish I could post more often, but I went and got myself promoted to management and hardly have time to surf anymore! Also, I took up running and am doing more of that than cycling these days. But, I still lurk and love this website and the local Mid-Atlantic group, too!) Bye for now!

Thanks for the post, Regina. Your post and the subsequent photos brought back good memories from when I joined you, Kalidurga, Diving Biker & MDHillSlug for the November Monument ride. I'm glad I had the chance to see it.

I hope all of you are having a good winter. I'm looking forward to SPRING and getting back outside on the bike. It seems like every time we've had decent weather for riding this winter, I've had another obligation. I've been taking spinning classes 2 or 3 times a week all winter, plus riding my mtn bike on the trainer, so I'm hoping to start riding strong once the days are longer and the temps get a little warmer.
