Last seen: in my garage in Seattle, February 4th
Color: candy apple red
Make: Rodriguez
Year: ~2002
Frame size: 42 cm
Components: Shimano Ultegra
Wheelset: 650 C Bontrager, with purple spoke nipples
Pedals: Speedplay Frog clipless (photos pre-date these)
Seat: Serfa women's gel
Accessories: Cateye headlight, Avocet cycling computer, patch kit, rearview mirror; but what I really care about is the FRAME!

As a petite woman, it is very difficult to find a bike that fits! If you see this bike, please, please, please let me know when/where you saw it. If someone tries to sell it to you, be aware that it is stolen property.

I will be eternally grateful to anyone who can provide information as to the whereabouts of this bicycle.

Thank you!
Jocelyn F.

I would suggest you get this info out to your LBS. Also, regularly check craigslist and ebay.

Not only check craigs list but put in ad of lost bike.

Put in a report at your local police station with pic.

Also, put in a word in at local radio station to announce.

I am sorry to hear of this. Very sad! People need to keep their hands off others things.
We live in a society that teaches and allows people to do what they want and when they want, these days. Self control is lacking.

And don't forget the pawn shops....

Hope you find it soon!

Alert Recycled Cycles, too. www.recycledcycles.com And I assume you already put a "stolen" note on your National Bike Registry entry? www.nationalbikeregistry.com I doubt the thief would try to take it back to R+E, but it doesn't hurt to make sure Smiley and the rest know the bike was stolen.

Good luck!

Good advice already and I'm sure that you've alerted R&E, right? Dan, Scott, Smiley et al usually make sure to recommend registering every bike that they build or sell with the Seattle PD...I'll keep an eye out for it, as it's unique enough - sizing and color - that it should be pretty conspicuous...I have a Rodriquez too and couldn't bear to have it taken...hang in there.

I'll be on the lookout for it.
they stole it out of your garage? May I ask what part of town you live in?
what a bummer

Put it on Cascade's stolen bike list too! http://www.cascade.org/Community/stolenbikes/index.cfm

and put your posting on their message board as well

- a few other shops you might want to alert (that buy and sell used bikes)
20/20 Cycles on 20/20 E. Union
The Velo Shop 12th Ave on Capitol Hill
BikeWorks in Columbia City
Second Ascent in Ballard

You can search all craigslists by doing a google search such as

Rodriguez bike site:craigslist.org

It will then only search craigslist listings. I hope it shows. Out of your garage! The nerve of some people!

. . . for all the advice and support! The guys at R+E have been very supportive. The downside is I'm the second owner of this bike and neglected to write down the serial number or register it. I guess I figured I'd get around to it eventually. I had three guys at R+E trying to track down the serial number based on what I knew about the first owner(s) and the history of the bike, and of course they were able to get a lot of info just from the pictures I had . . . but no luck.

I guess my other takeaway lesson is this: even if you store your bike in a secure location, lock it down to something!

The police do have the bike's info, but I don't want to "scare" away someone who might have a change of heart . . . I just want to believe someone will do the right thing.

I will definitely, definitely add all your suggestions to my list!

The person who asked what part of town I live in: it's sort of the area where Wallingford and Green Lake overlap. Key words: Tangletown, where Honey Bear used to be, just a couple blocks up from the Good Shepherd Center/Seattle Tilth. Pretty close to the 50th St./I-5 on ramps.

Thanks again all, you're beautiful!

I used to live there. M and R produce was next to Honey Bear, and I bought lots of nice fruits and veges there. Of course, that was 20 years ago... :o

the Tangletown pub (Elysian brew co.) is really popular with cyclists...maybe pop some pics/alerts up there and at Zoka, if possible? Nothing wrong with turning up the heat on the thief, if they hang out there too...?

I saw your flyer at gasworks today and thought of another place you could look.

I just checked, it's not there; but it's another resource. Good luck.

Wrong size frame to be yours, but with all the small frame bikes being stolen lately when I saw this it made me go hmmmmm....

I am on Ebay every day - I will keep a look out for it there. Could it be some 'kid' in the neighborhood who took it?

It seems like there is a growing market for small women's road bikes, which is GREAT, but I would like to see more education out there for people who are buying used bikes to know how to confirm whether a bike they are considering has or has not been reported stolen, and why they should give a d-mn.

It's not something I would have thought to do when I bought my bike, except that I asked the seller why would they sell a custom bike, unless they couldn't ride it anymore, which turned out to be the case.

We have a growing club of petite women who have had their bikes stolen in Seattle. Mine could have been taken by anyone -- kid in the neighborhood, homeless person, whatever. Someone saw an opportunity and took it. The other two cases that I'm familiar with sound more like professional jobs. Broken locks, bike parked in same place every day. In the case of the one that was stolen from the front entrance of Viriginia Mason, the thief had spent time lurking about to decide what he was going to steal, he chatted with the desk guard, and could even be seen on camera speeding away and did not leave locks behind.

I've almost got this out of my system, pretty soon I need to start thinking about a new bike!

Thanks again everyone for all of the support and encouragement --

I saw a dude riding a very expensive carbon racing bike with clipless pedals like a bat-outa-heck one evening on Boren, just up from Virginia Mason. He was wearing jeans and sneakers and a sweatshirt with a denim jacket.

I kinda didn't think it was his bike.

Knottedyet:

Any chance it might have been a light blue Cannondale? There was a 44cm R800 stolen from Virginia Mason almost two weeks ago. At least in her case, they've got video of the thief of camera.

Her craigslist stolen bike listing is expired. If she reposts somewhere else, I'll link to it.

I just noted this post at the Seattle Triathlon site. Might be worth checking out.

I must say, he sounds like he is a cyclist. Perhaps he's truly is selling this frame and keeping the parts for a future S/S coupling bike...but still worth checking out, for sure.

some bike thieves are bicyclists. Did you all read about the podiatrist who was stealing high end bikes and selling them to other bicyclists? (He commited suicide) This happened here in Washington this week.

Of course the seller might be legit. Doesn't hurt to check it out.

Just a random thought --
I have a renter's insurance policy. I was required to inventory/document jewelry, computers, electronics, etc ., and I included my bikes on the list. This way if my bike were ever stolen from my apartment (or damaged by fire, flooding, etc), I would at least get something. The deductible is not that high (I want to say $500?) so it actually would help with a new bike, and the premiums are quite low -- I think it's something like $80 a year.

Worth looking into your rental/homeowners policy (or look into getting one if you don't have one), to see if your bike might be covered, or at least if you can get your next bike covered...

Thanks everyone who has been so supportive and had so many great ideas!

One of the problems I've run into is not having my serial # written down. Well, after a bit of sleuthing, calling the original owners of my bike to get more history, the guys at R+E managed to find it in their files! They had to go back 9 years to before they had their client files computerized! How's that for service?

No, it was a red carbon Serotta (or was it a Cervelo? I don't remember, but it was expensive brand and started with "ssss") and on the larger size.
