View Full Version : Bike the Sites At Night
I was downtown Friday night and when we left the event on Capitol Hill it was like a ghost town but what a beautiful ghost town. I'd really like to do the bike the sites at night tour (http://www.trustedtours.com/store/Washington-DC-at-Night-Bike-Tour-C294.aspx) sometime this summer.

Whew! So glad you said "summer" - as I look out at the 15 degree reading on my thermometer this morning! ;)
That sounds like fun. Excellent change-up for the DC-TE Tour of D.C.

Oh, you make me wish I was still in DC (not much can do that!)
The monuments at night are the best way to see them. I particularly like FDR memorial and the Korean Vets monument at night. Have fun, wait til it's warm!
Oh, and seek out the Einstein memorial. It's good during the day, too.
i used to walk by Albert once in a while. Seems there were always kids climbing on him.

Where's Al? I don't think I've ever seen him.
The "Victims of Communism" we saw on the last TE-DC Tour DC was a first for me for that one.
Always fun to search out the hidden ones, the obscure ones, the forgotten ones. In fact....we should keep a running tally of them! :eek: We can even throw the Exorcist stairs in there.....
Okay...I digress.....

Albert is engineered so that if you stand in a certain point, and your friend is on his lap (I think) and you whisper, your friend can hear you. Also notice the universe at Albert's feet.
My old office did the environmental work for the Victims of Communism monument. I always found the name a bit strange. Another obscure one is the Friendship Urn (opposite end of island from Hains Point).
Lots of monuments in Richmond--I think I'll create a Bike-the-Confederates tour down here!

I would totally be up for that this summer! I've been out of commission for sometime - me sick, my sister having unsuccessful surgery for cancer, now my cat dying of cancer - really, I could so very much use something to look forward to! And bike the monuments at night, in WARM weather, sounds like something to add to that column! Right now, I'd just love it if I could make it to spin or go for a short run, but my lungs won't allow that just yet!
