A first for me this evening :D
Long post..
I did 45 min on the trainer after my 1hr of strengthening exercises. As I boogied to Funky Cold Medina and other stuff I practised moving my right leg from a 12oclock position downwards. :( I still have alot of engaging my hammies work to do.. I also did some one legged cycling on the trainer but that bothered my right knee.
I bought myself a nice new helmet yesterday & decided to venture outside & try it out. :D Much to Ian's dismay..
So, I hopped back on my bike in our carport and ventured outside. First time in about 3 months!!! It was soooo much fun but so hot!!! I made the following observations:
1-Pushing off with my right knee clipped in is OWWWWW..Pushing my leg all the way down is owwwww..
2-Bumps or any cracks in the road are painful
3-Balance etc is good
So, lesson learnt tonight is..Keep strengthening the leg but gently see what it can do. Be eager but be smart..

Keep at it! Gentle is the way. :D Hot weather---my two favorite words this time of year.
I got out for a 43 miler early morning ride. Today, a blast of Arctic weather is supposed to arrive, so conditions were odd. It was bearable--42 degrees--but the wind first was cold then, after about an 90 minutes, turned warm/toasty. Don't be fooled, the last ten miles, it turned cold again. I was lucky, as I made it home before a brief but heavy rain shower went through.
Tomorrow's ride will be brutal (below 20 degrees) and if the windchill is below 10 degrees, I'll likely do a Spinervals and row.
Luckily, temps are supposed to moderate, starting Tuesday, so I should have only two really cold mornings to get through.

2 hours outside. It was cold but bearable (we waited until 2pm to head out). When I got home I had to take a nap - I think the cold affects you much more than you feel at the moment.

Headed out this morning as the day is supposed to get progressively colder. Yesterday I had a little saddle discomfort, which was magnified greatly today. I spent most of the ride trying to sit straight up or out of the saddle altogether.
I think that when I took the bike in for it's tuneup, they messed up my saddle setup a bit.
So a beautiful but chilly ride was a bit messed up by that. Work will keep me out of the saddle for the next few days anyway. I checked and the skin isn't broken so it should heal quickly.
I still managed 15.88 slow miles.

since I'm selling my Bike Friday to DOW, and my car is in the shop:(, I dug out my old Specialized Sirrus and rode to church. Not bad and truth be told, I like the ride better than the Friday. also made to walmart afterwards
will probably go to the library and do the women's ride this afternoon
so far 11 miles

Swoosh ! Swoosh ! My ride turned into a lovely xc ski. It's been snowing here lightly for 24 hours. Woke up to 5 inches of fresh snow over a hard 4 inch base.
Was on the trainer and going "argh" like most do. Twenty minutes in I said, bleep, I'm going out on the skiis. Despite warming temps to 35, the ski conditions were excellent. Quality glide - much more fun than the trainer.

did 52 miles on the supported bike shop club ride. Started out really foggy...had to keep wiping my glassess off. But it was really nice in the fog with no wind. Right around the turn around point, the fog started clearing, which of course meant the wind picked up. Over all a great ride, ended with an average of 16.4...that is about a mile/hour faster than on my old bike!

The ride I was on today passed by part of the Stanford campus, and I could have sworn I saw you at a stoplight. But now that I've seen your post, I know for sure that it wasn't you.
I went on a 34 mile ride with the AIDS/Lifecycle Training group. It was awesome! The weather was absolutely perfect, and the route took us thru some very picturesque areas. I'd forgotten how beautiful riding thru Woodside and Portola Valley is. I'm a sucker for rolling hills and oak trees. I was surprised how strong I felt after yesterday's hill-o-rama ride. (Um, yesterday was a hilly ride on the Mel scale, not on the Veronica/Jobob/Maillotpois/SadieKate/AKA_Kim/hope I'm not forgetting anyone scale.)

It wasn't as warm today as yesterday but it was still above average. Upper 60's and light wind when we started. DH and I did the "Castle Ride" which has a lot of climbing and the reward of some fast downhills. This ride is a beast though! The worst part is a 500 foot sustained climb that is steep!
We have a couple hilly centuries planned this year and I have to work on climbing. I felt whopped when I got to the car! 51.72 miles, 14.3 mph.

It's really good to hear.
Coolio didn't quite describe today's little commute to church and back, 'cause it was 6 degrees (F)(colder in town than out at the airport!) with 30 mph winds.
Keep the ouchies down and the progress a-movin' ...

I bet your Mel hilly-scale is the same as mine. ;) The mountains in Missouri are not those of the east or the west.

Ok , double dip time!
Return some books to library and picked some more (I'm on a Bernie Cornwell kick)
Then I rode over the start of the womens ride Had another flat on the way :(
We did an new route, and I wound dispensing some fitting advice, some energy drink advice, and made myself useful. Split from the gals to get a new tube at REI and headed home to check the see if shop had my car done:)
27 miles this ride 38 for the day;)

I did 27 km on the trainer in 1 hour. Watched "Must Love Dogs" and did sprint intervals during the commercials. There are too many commercials....:rolleyes:

Maybe we should develop our own Mel Scale of Hilliness (MSOH.)
Let's see, maybe it would go something like this.
Objectively speaking:
1 (MSOH) = 0 - 500 feet of elevation gain during the ride
2 (MSOH) = 500 - 1000 feet of elevation gain during the ride
3 (MSOH) = 1000 - 3000 feet of elevation gain during the ride
4 (MSOH) = 3000 - 5000 feet of elevation gain during the ride
5 (MSOH) = 5000+ feet of elevation gain during the ride
Subjectively speaking:
1 (MSOH) = eh? Was there a hill on the ride?
2 (MSOH) = That was kind of fun -- a little uphill, a little downhill
3 (MSOH) = Oh man, my legs are gonna be a bit tight tomorrow
4 (MSOH) = Good Lord, what did I get myself into?
5 (MSOH) = :eek::eek::eek:
Or something like that.

On the way home from the grocery store there's a MSOH 1 hill. The first time my husband complained I said "What hill are you talking about? There's no hill there." Then when I started hauling full loads of groceries home I said "Oh, there is a hill there! Wow, that's one heck of a hill."
On the way home from work is are three MSOH 2 hills. Well, the third one, not really, but coming after the first two, it is a nuisance. "I thought I was done with the bloody hills already!"
The rest of the hills, that I encounter on recreational rides and thus not regularly, are all MSOH 5.

PS My Saturday ride was a 4 on the MSOH.
PPS Adding over 10 pounds to your bike should give bump you up 1 on the MSOH. So your Grocery Hill merits a 2 on the MSOH. (We may have to adjust this adjustment...)
