DH and I are trying to plan a trip to somewhere warm for the last week of March. It will be for 20 years together, 15 years married, and Happy Valentines Day celebration all wrapped up in one. I would like to snorkel and hang on the beach, but it isn't a must. We most likely couldn't get together a passport on such short notice (or could we? - I really don't know because I haven't been outside of the US). We will only have 9 days, so anything too far away isn't that appealing. We have been to Maui and loved it - we are considering another island.
Money isn't an object - oh, wait a minute, I got carried away with the daydream there! How would it be to be able to say that with confidence???
Does anyone have suggestions for us?
Thanks for letting me hog this thread!

I want to suggest Western Australia but 9 days isn't enough.. Then again if you spent all the time @ the Ningaloo Reef it would be ok :) It's nice and hot here :)
What about Sabah in Malaysia? SHopping in Singapore?
The places above are easy to travel to from Perth :o
How an intrepid self managed trip? www.intrepidtravel.com.au
Whatever you choose to do, i hope you guys have tons of fun :)

What about Baja? Wait a minute. Do you need passports for everywhere outside the US these days?

Destin Beach, FL - it's gorgeous and the gulf is amazing!
Wait - is Destin warm at the end of March? It was in October....
JuJu.....are you out there?? :)

Destin, FL gets my vote too. It's pretty warm in March, but can sometimes be windy. Seems like once I was there in March that the sand was blowing and it stung a little.
It's beautiful though. I'd still go regardless.

You guys could just throw the bikes in and make a quick drive down to San Diego...get some surf in, and also do some riding!

Nah, if you can afford to go almost anywhere, go way south, like Hawaii or the US Virgin Islands. Even Puerto Rico would be good. No passport required.
I applied for our passports for our cruise in October and we got them within 3 weeks. But, they don't guarantee them that fast, so you would be taking a risk to schedule something out of the country.

Get yourselves passports so you will have more options in the future (now required for Canada, too).
I would suggest St. Augustine Florida, or Folly Beach, South Carolina or Edisto Island South Carolina (with side trips to Charleston).

The Florida Keys....love their funky charm! There's a great bike path most of the way up and down the keys. People ride up and down in their cruiser bikes. DH and I rented a cottage for a week and had a blast doing that this past December!
Wherever you go, sounds like a wonderful time ahead!

Sounds like you could go to Mexico - you need a photo ID and proof of citizenship (birth certificate)
I think I'd choose either Hawaii or San Diego.

I'm checking all of the suggestions out! Planning to have fun is sure a lot of work!
My mom and dad have a timeshare condo with worldwide access. I checked on the Florida Keys and there in no availability for the week we are able to go. I started there because I noticed that one of the condos had free bike rentals.
I think we will start with the continental US first because of the cost factor.
I really appreciate the ideas - I am not even close to being finished checking all of your suggestions out. You have no idea how helpful is is to have a place to start looking.
I guess I'd better hit the sack. Thanks again!

You "could" go to Mexico, but they caution that the passport requirements are due to change this year and they could change just in time for the trip, or worse, while you're gone. I wouldn't take that chance at all, but that's just me. We didn't really need our passports on the cruise (although Carnival required them, we could have gotten on without them), but I was glad to have them. If you use your passport as ID to fly, I noticed they use a jeweler's loupe to study them at the security gate--and we were only flying to Ft. Lauderdale!

Oh, and I like Dauphin Island in Alabama, too, but it might still be a bit chilly for swimming in late March.

Why not take a cruise? Then you can swim on board and snorkel as well on an excursion.
