It's cloudy here in Sandy Place Ranch, so I don't think the groundhog saw her shadow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groundhog_Day) :o
I have to go to a coworker's memorial service this PM, so only got in 34 miles. Basically did the short version of the club ride, plus riding to and from home.

I did a quick 14 miles. The temps were chilly but the new jacket I ordered from Performance kept me nice and warm :) The skies were clear and blue with a strong wind blowing in from the south. It was a great day to be on a bike wish I did not have to rush home to sit and wait on the cable guy - still waiting.

A tough 19 miler for us.

Starting Temp in the low 30's, wind about 15 mph from the South, but the sun was full!

We averaged 15.8mph due to the wind.

19.63 miles on the Jamis. It was about 42 when we left, but wind gusts up to about 20 mph. The roads were in pretty bad shape; yesterday we had a really bad rain storm, so there were puddles everywhere. My husband has a terrible sense of direction... we planned a route and then he turned the wrong way when we got to a major intersection to head back toward home. I had to yell pretty loud because of the wind. We were on roads we ride all of the time, but going in the opposite direction.
I had one almost mishap where there were a bunch of potholes and water on Rt. 62 in Bedford and I skidded, but somehow got control of the bike. There were a lot of people out on road bikes, but I would never take my Kuota out when the streets are like this. I was, however, dressed correctly: regular LS jersey, my Icebreaker half zip, and wind jacket on top and Hind tights, Woolie Bully socks, and booties on the bottom.

The club rode 30 miles (hilly, too). They lured me out with the promise of 20 miles...Ha, knew they were lying.

Temps were in the lower 60's with slight wind.

Beautiful day.

But last 6 or 8 miles I was miserable....new shorts, forgot chammy butr. Shorts too big...chamois too bulky.

Oh, well, live and learn

I think I can see spring sorta coming, and my spirits are very lifted! Got in a short 14 miler at the lake. Wind was low (only about 10 mph- as opposed to the 3-40 mph winds we've been having lately). Temp in the mid 50's. Soooooo nice! :D

DH and I did a lazy ride down to the shop and back. 19 miles, 14 mph pace.
DH had Pepper work on his wheel, which was slightly out of true, and adjust his handlebars. DH mentioned that I was eyeing a used single speed mountain bike frame (a Surly 1x1) on Craigslist. Well, the shop guys just let me have an earful about why I'm better off trying before I buy, and on and on about SS's in general. I swear, sometimes it's a pain being friends with the LBS. On one hand, you're treated like family when you walk in the door. :D On the other, they are not bashful giving you their REAL opinions on things...particularly about buying used (gasp!) bike stuff.

Got in 16.6 miles. Had hoped for a longer ride because it was a beautiful, if chilly, morning. But had yet another dog come after me. Trying to dismount to get the bike between us, didn't unclip, and fell. He circled around and was headed for me when I managed to get my Halt! in my hand. Apparently he had seen the can before because he immediately backed off.

I ended up with a skinned elbow and some bruises but was much better than the alternative.

I like dogs, but lately they don't seem to like me.

Went for a leisurly 20 mile ride around town and ended up at Legion park at the north end of Everett. It was a little cool (low 40s) and the skies were overcast, but the view of the cascades over the marina was stunning. I won't reveal my average speed since it was only a nudge faster than a snail might go. Those hills just kill me.

Yuck! Darn those dogs. I'm glad they didn't attack!

I'm glad I have that clip to put the spray right at hand.

Woohoo! Actually have a real road ride to report...first one since September.

36 degrees, 80% humidity, fortunately only light wind

Feet still pretty cold by the end, despite smart wool, neoprene full covers, with calientoes wind blockers underneath.

23.49 miles, almost all flat today, with one short 189 foot elevation gain hill at end.

23.49 miles...and today was my "long ride" day...LOL...oh well...summer will be here in 6 months or so! :p

Had a great ride today. Our plan was to get up and start before first light, but my kids were going to be coming home later so we were able to get some much needed sleep.

We drove out to Glendora Mountain Road (GMR) and parked at the top with our new Forest Service Adventure Pass. We warmed up with an 8.3 mile descent down the road. Okay, it was nowhere near warm, but we got to spin our legs a little before the first climb. :p

Today we were not trying to hammer the climb, but pay attention to our power meters and get some real training in. We climbed the road twice for a total of 33.5 miles and 4780 ft of climbing.

Oh...and on our way down we saw Tinker Juarez climbing! I made George turn the car around because I'm a dork like that...and I wanted to see if he was in his big chain ring. He was!

Me...happy that George allowed me be starstruck by Tinker and take a picture. :p

26.6 miles. Just a bit warmer than last week. Strange that today I thought that 34 degrees was more than warm enough.

Saturday = race day

So I did a 37km circuitt race on my Saturday... Its 3 laps and the last two times I have raced and completed this course I was dropped in the first half of the first lap.
I was not dropped until half way through the second lap this time, so I feel really good about it. An excellent intense training ride for me, and with my warm up and cool down I was able to log 55km on BikeJ.

My partner was 3rd in his grade, and my 14yo was 2nd in his. There was a big crash about 15 bikes went down) in my son's grade on the last corner before the finishing straight so was very relieved that that he was NOT brought down. He was pleased that none of his cycling mates were hurt - we had to do a ring around of a few we hadn't seen finish just to check up.
Two were taken away in an ambulance with minor injuries, and it is always a strange sigh of relief one breathes when one realises the ambulance is not for one of your own.

Oh Raven,

I hope the kids injuries were really minor like a road rash. I never like seeing crashes and pile-ups.

healing wishes to the injured kids,

Thanks Cat
:)

Mostly mild road rash, alot of them ended up on grass and broke each others fall. There was one teenager I think who was in the ambulance, but didn't know that person. The other was a man about my age who rides with my partner in training rides and races in my son's grade - he was a bit woozy and they took him away to check for concussion.

My son's age-mates/cycling buddies were all ok, a couple were involved with minor injuries but were able to hop back on their bikes and cross the finish line.

Its funny though, as soon as you realise they are up and moving and they answer that they are fine, you want to check how the bike's are. Some of these kids pay for everything themselves and would sooner have a broken bone which is four weeks inconvenience rather than a broken bike which would take months to replace in terms of earnings...

Rode 20 miles yesterday in mid-40s temps on one of my favorite roads. My BF did the route with me for the first time. I generally discourage him, LOL---his preferred average speed is about twice mine. He *claims* he had a good time, but I know he was itching to go faster and further! Ah well, today he's doing a tough MTB ride out in the Blue Ridge with his serious cycling buddies. Ironically, having him with me actually slowed me down a little---I registered my slowest mph av in 11 rides since January 1!

15 miles in one hour flat. It was coldish, 50 or a bit less, and I took a long time to warm up. Hammered up a hill, the only one.

Black ice precluded any riding on pavement, so I spent some time w/Coach Troy. Afterward, husband said, "let's go ride on the C&O." Figured it would be OK since it's gravel/dirt & my mountain bike has some awesome nubby tires. The ride there was dicey (in the car)--black ice all over the roads. Once we arrived safely, unpacked the bikes, and got going, we were pleased to find it relatively easy riding. There were a few icy patches and some puddles that had frozen over with a very thin crust of ice. I had fun, plowing through those. The cold ground really was a plus---it didn't start getting muddy til the very end of the ride, when the temps went up to unfreeze the ground. Saw a good many dogs with their owners, which is a regular treat when I ride the canal tow path.

Went only 15 miles but loved every minute.

Wow, VB, it's funny what a difference a few miles (location-wise, that is) makes! No black ice here, thank goodness.

Upper 40's, a tiny bit of sun, light wind. 36 miles. Longest road ride for '08!

40 very rigorous miles going to the Illini Chill, riding the 20 miles and riding back. Studded tyres made things relatively safe (we got 6 inches on Thurs/Fri) but I'm a wimp so I dabbed a lot when there was drifting (talkin' 2-3 inches max here - they had plowed and mashed stuff down) & when it got slushy when it crept above freezing. Probably averaged 10-11 mph but on a reg'lar bike would have been more like 16-17... it was good to be TIRED at the end :D
I think my longest ride for '08, which is funny considering I did three metrics the last week of the year ;) Funny waht having the week off work will do!
