Actually, I didn't even run today--had a 10-hour clinical day so just wasn't able to fit it in. I just saw that nobody had started the thread yet!

4 km in the snow yesterday, another perhaps 7 today? We'll see what the new running partner has in store. It's rest week anyway so I hope she's not thinking anything hard!

I've been running outside on Sundays--usually about three miles--with a group of friends since early January and doing run/walk intervals twice a week after spinning at the Y. After a few more or less "successful" weeks of this, I started to feel like the intervals causing a bit of a mental block. My friends motivate me to run without stopping, but when left to my own devices, it's harder to keep at it, especially when that speed button on the treadmill is glaring at me.

Last night, I challenged myself to run on the treadmill for as long as I could without stopping. I made it to 19 minutes before slowing to a walk for about 50 seconds. Then I ran for another 6 minutes before the tornado sirens (we had some really crazy weather last night) sounded and we had to take shelter. All in all, I'm pleased that I got over that hump.

Yikes! That is one thing we don't have to worry too much about in this part of the country. At least you weren't running outside when the sirens went off--that would be scary!

Seriously. At least four people died last night in southern Indiana. One town west of Indianapolis reported winds in excess of 80 mph. It was pretty intense.

Shoe shopping yesterday. I hope I didn't make a mistake going to a slightly less stable shoe. My arches hurt last night, this morning and after my run today. The good news is that my heels/Achilles don't hurt

Four miles for me this morning - earlier than I usually go, so I got to watch the seniors doing T'ai Chi on the beach, always an inspiration. It was a really beautiful day (aside from a bunch of dead rays washed up on the sand, which at least was interesting since it was something I hadn't seen before :p). It was my first run since the 5K on Saturday (active rest Sunday, aerobics Monday and yesterday) and my legs were kind of sore, but I kept up a reasonable pace.

The reason I did my run early is because I was taking advantage of my last Christmas present: a SPA DAY! I got pampered from head to toe. :)

8 miles today!!! I'm surprised I did it. It was outside and about 37 degrees. My second set of hills were kind of difficult and after a while my ankles hurt (heck, everything hurt) but it was liveable. I have my cycling recovery drink stuff at home so I had that after I ran. I figured I'm getting up to long enough where a recovery drink might be beneficial.

I was playing leapfrog with the trash people :D They'd drive and pass me then would stop to load their truck and I'd pass them. It made me be honest and not walk because I would've felt foolish. They were nice.

I was amazed that how sweaty my hair got in 37 degree temperature. You'd think that would be too cold to sweat. Go figure.

3.25 miles on the treadmill. It's looking so warm this weekend in NC, I will finally be able to run outside! :)

You're right -- I remember one difficult uphill switchback hike my DH and I did in the North Georgia mountains a couple of years ago. There were several inches of snow on the ground, and it was chilly. We were having to rush to beat the park closing time, and I was dying since our pace (and lack of resting) was a bit more than I could handle (no problem for DH). I don't know what the temp was, but no higher than 37. I remember well that I was sweating like a pig -- scalp and body. I think it's the humidity not allowing the sweat to evaporate faster than you generate it. Hiking in the desert southwest, I didn't sense sweating much at all with temperatures in the 80s! Gotta love that dry air.

4.1 in my old shoes today, just to get back to baseline before I try the new ones again. No dead stingrays on the beach today, but one used condom  which was surprising because it's usually really clean.

Eight miles? Good for you. I'm lucky to do 3.

I ran again last night--another 25 minutes or so on the treadmill. From there, I went to spinning and as I was taking my cycling shoes off after class, my calf cramped up something terrible. It still kind of hurts. I'm wondering if it's from the running and/or dehydration.

Did a half-hour trail run today; it was a nice change from the neighborhood but there was a fair amount of ice on the trail so had to be careful to avoid it.

Indy, might be that but maybe it's switching one sport to the other back-to-back? I know in tri training it takes a while to get used to it. Or, could be dehydration too.

I ran 3 miles today. After I do 3.5 miles tomorrow, it'll be 22 for the week! Saturday's a rest day and sunday is swimming. My goal is to reduce my run days from 5 to 4, I don't think 5 days is healthy. At least my legs don't think it is! I just have to get my mileage up enough so I don't have a drop in weekly mileage.

3.5 miles today and I am done for the week :D:D:D

I felt like I was going so slow I was running backwards. It hurt so I ended up jumping on a trail next to the paved surface that I run on. The trail felt better and in a lot of ways, it's good for me to run on it. The half-marathon I'll be doing has about 4-5 miles of trail running in it. Civilized trail though, I think. Park trail.

After feeling like a sloth, I got home to enter all my info in my log. It turns out I was 3 minutes faster than the last time I did that route. Go figure. I guess I don't suck as much as I thought I did!

3.25 miles running, .5 walking on the treadmill today. Sunday I'm running outside on the trails -- great weather a-coming. Woohoo! :)

Have a good weekend, all!

Well, the weather here was horrendous today (sleet/ice/cold rain--yuck!), so I didn't run. I thought about it but decided it was probably not a good idea given that the sleet was accumulating in a slippery layer of slush. Fortunately, tomorrow is supposed to be nice.

Another regular half-hour neighborhood run today. It's not all that cold here but it's still sort of cloudy and I had quite a headwind during parts of the run! Maybe that's why today's run felt harder than usual, or maybe it's just from not having run much this past week.

Finally got out after taking almost 2 entire weeks off. I did a very slow 6 mile run with the running club. Felt surprisingly okay. I think the fresh air did me good.

I went for gentle 1.6 km walk/run today and see if my shins could handle t. I walked for 5 min then did 1:00 walk/run intervals. My shins hurt for the first minute and then felt fine. Two hours later I'm still feeling good.

It was a busy week with several kid evening activities and one work evening work function. So as a result I only got a couple of runs in. But that's OK this week should be more relaxed.

It feels great to have reached "that place" where I don't feel like I've lost it when I get off schedule for a few days.

Putting a whole lot of things to the test this morning.

Intervals, with shorter recoveries than I'd done before, in my new shoes, with slightly premenstrual boobs in a new CW-X sports bra.

Verdict:

Shorter recoveries: I actually took this step because my HR has been coming down so much faster than it used to! One minute recovery is now just enough for it to come down to 75% of max even in the later intervals. And the efforts were faster than I've ever done before! Woo-hoo!

Shoes (take 2): my left arch hurts a bit, but it was still a little tweaked from the other day. My right foot feels fine, though arch pain doesn't always show up until the next day for me. So we'll see.

Bra: not bad, but I still prefer a cheaper compression bra in a 34A-B for my 35-lower case b-for-bouncy boobs, even if it does leave flab spilling out all over my armpits. I wondered about that when I bought the CW-X which is sized 34B-C, but I thought I'd give the fancy suspension a try.

All in all a good short run (3.6) with almost enough time to stop sweating between getting out of the shower and riding the bike to church :p

Oh, and... no groundhogs here, but the alligator saw its shadow ;)

Here in Texas it's like summer has hit for the weekend! 2 days in a row of 70-75 degree weather.

1hour 46minutes
8.40 miles
12m 37s /mile

Woke at up 7:00 AM and was on the road by 7:20 AM.

I decided to do a 5 minute walk and 2 minute run combo. Worked out nicely.

I took in a gel at the start and then a gel half way through. I had gone to bed a little hungry and didn't eat before I went on my run.

Overall not a painful walk/run... except for my right achilles. WOAH! That's hurting something fierce. It started at the run on Friday and I felt it at the start of today. It just got worse as the run went on and hurts pretty bad now, even 6 hours after the run. I iced it down some, but it didn't help much.

I have no idea how far I went, but today I finally got out on the trails and ran/walked for 42 minutes -- yay! It was in the 60s and lovely here in NC today. I wore my HRM and ran until my HR went above 160 (on hills), then walked until it was around 150, then ran again, back and forth. I'll say one thing, it is much, much easier running on the treadmill. I can do 40-45 minutes without my HR ever reaching 160 and with no walking stops. Rolling trails are a lot more challenging!

9 miles today

It was ok though it took me longer to recover after than I thought it would. I think I was sluggish from the onset but I'm glad I did it and I'm really glad it's over! Of course this means next week I go into double digits :D:eek:

I went for a run today, but kept it mostly walking and short intervals. Shins did not hurt. Crossing my fingers. I see the orthoped again on Friday so will be careful until then.

Weeeee. I ran both Saturday and Sunday with my running group. I still haven't broken the 3-mile barrier (maybe this coming weekend) but I picked up the pace a bit. I didn't feel extremely comfortable aerobically, but my legs were okay. It was nice to be outside getting some fresh air if nothing else.

2.5 miles today just to stretch out from the 9 mile run yesterday.

My ankle hurts a bit, I think I might have to switch shoes. My gel kayanos always worked well pre-orthotics but perhaps they're conflicting with the orthotics now.

For those who have done it, how heinous is the transition from running a half-marathon to running a full one? I'm just toying with the idea. The Portland marathon is 3 months after the half-marathon I'm doing. If I was going to do a marathon, I think that would be perfect timing. The Portland one looks like fun. Am just pondering at this point...will I be killing myself to do this? Am not going for time, just to finish.

3 miles running, .75 mi walking on the work gym treadmill today. It was lovely outside, but too humid for me to run outside on my lunch hour, as I don't have time to wash and dry my hair (though I do take a shower, never fear!)

A four mile run in the sleet and rain. Pushed DD in the baby jogger. She insisted on wearing her sunglasses and sparkly shoes. In retrospect, the sunglasses were probably a good thing--they kept the rain out of her eyes.

I don't think you'll be killing yourself by jumping to the marathon. It's the same as the half and with most distances--a good deal of it is mental. You just get it set in your mind that you will be running for a very long time, and you'll be alright.

Hey, I just wanted to thank you for this :D I'm still toying with the idea. If my body can do it, I want to. Pain is ok, I guess. It isn't exactly fun sometimes but finishing something is great! I'm websearching for the justification but I am SO there. Like 95% there.

I guess I always told people in cycling "if you can do 25, you can do 50", etc. Is it the same with running? I know that running is harsher and all but still. It seems like there is far more caution in running events than cycling.

Now. If I sign up for this, I have a choice of what to put on my bib. Do I do something like "idiot"?! :p:cool::p

3.5 miles today. I was a bit reluctant because I got home at 6am and after sleep, I just didn't feel right. It was raining, etc. I decided that if I want to do a marathon, it means I can't wuss out at rain or tiredness. I ran 3.5 miles (went out to do 2.5 but figured I should aspire beyond that) and it was my fastest time since I started logging it at the beginning of the year! Go figure. Life is good sometimes :D
