I would like to get some new tires for my road bike. I have 700x23 wheels and ride on fairly hilly terrain year-round. I do not race, riding only for fun and fitness. Have used Hutchinson, Michelin Pro, and Specialized Mondo Pro.
Looking for opinions on what tire you like to ride. Your opinions will help me pick my new tires for 2008. THANKS!

I use Vittoria Rubino Pros that I buy at probikekit.com for about $22 a piece. I have admittedly not experimented with other tires, but why fix what ain't broken. I've never (knock on wood) had a flat and they're not hard to mount. They provide a nice ride, especially for the money.

Serfas Seca Road tire, about $18 each. I love these tires (I don't race, and I don't know (or care) about weight, etc.). I had a bad sidewall blowout with the Michelin Pro Race, but my BF likes them alot.

I like my Schwalbe Stelvios. I initially bought them for the color (pink is hard to find!) but they have a very cushy ride, more so than other tires I've used.

My favorite road bike tires are the Vredestein Fortezza Tricomps! If I can't find these my second favorite tire are Continentals. But only if I can't find the Vredestein Fortezza Tricomp. I love these tires!

I love my Michelin Pro2 Race tires. Very smooth rolling, quick, and comfy. I also ride for fun and fitness, although I do occasionally like to do so somewhat quickly.
I tried the Hutchison Fusion Comp from Performance. They were on sale for 50% off, and I couldn't resist. Well, I should have. Blech. Slow, gummy. Made my bike feel very sluggish. I never thought a new pair of shoes could have such an impact on a bike's performance, but these certainly did...and it wasn't good. Don't recommend the Fusion Comps. I went right back to my Pro2 races! Worth every penny.

Wow! Tires really are a mystery!! Everyone has a different "like". I think I was expecting to a general concenus on one good tire. Must be a lot of good tires out there! :)
I do agree the Hutchinson is gummy -- that was my experience too. I also agree the Michelin Pro is a good tire but I experienced side-wall issues, having flattend twice in one ride. However, I have had many flat-free rides with them! In general the Specialized Mondo Pro has been good except for it slit quickly but it has not flatten with the slit (not sure why, but always a concern).
I have heard from other riders very good things about the Conti's 4000 and the Vittoria Rubino Pro. The other suggestions I do not know much about but will definitely investigate!!! Thank you.
If anyone has a favorite tire, I am still looking for info and opinions!!

Vittoria Randonneurs (with reflective sidewalls)
I have these on both my bikes. 28 on one and 32 on the other. They have done very well for me, sturdy. I'm like a magpie: if something shiney or sparkly is in the road during my commute, I *will* be hypnotically drawn to it and ride right over it. The reflective sidewalls are very bright (unless really dirty). The tread is nice and smooth on asphalt and corners smoothly. Handles rain well.

I loved my michelin pro 2s!!! I wish I didn't run them down. When I did, I decided to try something different and a buddy that I work with suggested the Specialized mondo pro s-works. I HATE THEM!!! They feel so slow and I just can't get the same kinda rolling feeling that I did with my michelins. I'm about to go out and buy a pair.

The past 6000 miles or so have been on Vittoria Rubino Pros. I get mine from the LBS, so they run me around $37 apiece. Still, I get somewhere between 2500 to 2800 miles out of a set.
I used to run Continental GatorSkins, but found I like the Vittorias a lot better, and they're just about as durable.

If your not racing I would ride Gatorskin Ultras or Aramdillos.
I train on Gatorskin Ultras and I love them.
I used to use Michelin Pro 2s and I would also recommend them(I got almost 5,000 miles- or 5 months out of them before they started to need replacing). I just had Specialized Mondo Pros and despised them- to soft! Within the first week of having them I had 2 flats and a hole formed.
I say, make life easier and ride Gatorskins- less flats to worry about.

Conti 4-season. Wear well, grip the road without a lot of rolling resistance. Second choice would be Conti 4000.
