They actually installed a bike rack! Too bad it's too cold for me to commute...:( I guess this means there's no chance of them letting me bring my bike into the office.

Bah! Too cold? Not if you wear the right clothes!:D

Make sure you get a good lock, maybe a big heavy one that you can leave locked to the rack so you don't have to haul it back and forth. Did you ask for a rack, or did someone else?

I was one of several that was suggesting/asking/pushing for a bike rack. I never expected them to put it so near the entrance and I didn't expect that they'd do it over the winter.

I've got a good cable lock but will add a u-lock, too.

I probably do have the right clothes but I don't have proper lights. I'll have to wait a few more weeks (at least) for later daylight.

Nice! I like the gravel bed. Good touch!

Fantastic. It's a really sturdy one too.
How long before there are so many cyclists that they have to install a second one?

That would actually be great, but I'll believe it when I see it. Right now I know of about three of us who sometimes bike commute. Perhaps this will bring more out of the woodwork.

That's great. Is there a cover over it? I lock my bike to one of those racks, and I leave my U-lock locked to it, so it's always there for me (I just need to remember to bring the key!).
Lights are almost b/c'ing a non-issue already....just in the a.m., really. It's pretty bright until 5:30 already. I'm just about ready to go back to the "be seen, rather than see" lights, and take DH's NightRider system off the bike. But, yeah...the cold is a downer. This a.m. was 20 degrees. I'm still in hibernation mode, myself.

No cover at all.

The weight of a lock or two can be quite an extra load to haul; as far as leaving it on the rack, how will it fair out in the weather?

How is your carpet bag working out?

With the times of my commute I'd had enough AM light right now, but not enough PM light.

Not sure how weather-resistant locks can be. Mine is not, I don't think, but it's on a rack in a covered garage, so it's not really an issue (except for the condensation puddle coming from a nearby a.c. unit, but that's not too bad).

My carpet bag (http://www.rei.com/product/749998?vcat=REI_SEARCH) is off the bike for the winter, and will return with the fair weather when my clothes are lighter and I have less to carry!

Maybe you could just get a really heavy chain and use a waterproof padlock? I got one at Strosnider's that I use on the door to my shed, and it's been out in the weather for years and is as good as new.
