Is there any interest in doing the Northwest Illinois
Century Ride again in September, this year?

This ride is on low traffic roads, which are
scenic and hilly. Wouldn't you love the challenge
of climbing Binkley Hill?
Find out what others have said about their experience
by reading past comments in www.BikeJournal.com thread from last September
titled: Northwest IL. Century-Any interest?

I've had several indicating to me that they would
like to do this ride again. I would like to put the
question out for all, to see if there is enough interest
to make this a go for Saturday, Sept. 20th 2008.

The routes would remain the same; with the exception
of the Sunday morning Breakfast ride. If there is enough
interest and people stay for this ride; the breakfast route
would be shortened.

Ride Description:
This ride takes you through a few small, quaint towns and villages in 3 counties:
Stephenson, JoDaviess and Carroll counties.
These roads are low-traffic and somewhat hilly!
Yep, there are several rollers and some with spectacular views.
Binkley hill is one that is very challenging which has a 15% grade.
For those of you who do not want to do a century, there are other available shorter options.
A 70 mile route and a 30 mile route.

The ride begins at the YMCA, located at the Highland Community College Campus in Freeport Illinois.
Are you ready to ride this wonderful Century with us?
Come join the fun and challenge. See ya there!

c'mon gals,

I know there has got to be someone out there...
somewhere that would be interested in doing this.
And just think of the fun and excitement of riding
in a different area than you are use to,
the rolling hills, the challenge of Binkley Hill.
C'mon and give it a try.

Can you give me some more information about this ride? Do you have to register for it? Is it a supported ride?

Thanks!

I just want to clarify and make sure
everyone understands that this is an "unsupported" ride.
It is not an "organized" ride, (like we are all use to) no fee involved,
and no fund raiser

Remember - this is an "at your own risk" ride.
This is just several people gathering together
to go bike riding.
There are no $ fees $ and no insurance,
Every person assumes any and all liability.

This ride is very rural and some areas seem remote
(out in the middle of nowhere) Most of the roads are very low traffic.
It is open to anyone who wants to gather together and ride for the
sheer pleasure and challenge of riding a century.
Therefore - there will not be the usual rest stops with
treats and other goodies that we all are used to on regular "organized rides"
However there are places such as gas stations,
convenient stores, and restaurants along the way.
I will try to get a few people lined up to possibly have designated stops
along the way- but this is not yet definate...(still in the works)
So please come prepared, bring your own snacks and other goodies.
(just in case) :o

I have asked my husband (Chris) to drive our vehicle
(SAG) for us....and he has agreed to do so.
I am going to see if I can find a couple more people to
help out for the other routes.

I will try to keep everyone posted. Oh, and if anyone would like
a map, please let me know.
There is the possibility that I will be changiing the route a
little bit from last years. But this is still in the works.
I will also shorten the Sunday morning breakfast ride.

Oh - we are halfway between Rockford and Galena. I74 to Bloomington, I39 to Rockford, US20 West.

Happy Riding!

lauren.warnecke,

Hello, :)
here are the maps:

this one is the 103 mile route: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1266709

this one is the 70 mile route: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com?r=1211368
The first 57 miles overlap with the 100 mile route
Also, keep in mind that I may be making a few changes to the century mile route.

If you are a member of Bike Journal.com, there is a thread from last
September with pictures and comments by participants.
There is also a sign-up sheet there to just give me an idea on the
number of people who are interested and plan to attend.
I hope to possibly see you in September.
