Ping pong/table tennis

Hi all! Are there ping pong or table tennis players here? I decided that it was time to get my whole family involved in an active lifestyle, and I think that for the house this game can be great instead of watching TV (although no one will definitely refuse it). Can someone explain to me the difference between ping pong and table tennis? Is it critical or only the rules differ?
