In 2002 I bicycled from Amsteredam to Paris, about 575 miles. The one thing I had difficulty with was the truing of wheels. Every 30 to 50 miles they were out of true again. I am interested in recommendations for wheel sets that will stay in true longer with the capacity to carry heavier loads. I was not loaded as heavily as I would have been as we had crew to carry our gear, my next trip is likely not to be so posh.

You need to find yourself a good wheelbuilder and pop for some custom wheels. These don't have to be terribly expensive but you need them to be built correctly right from the beginning. Touring and terrain but huge stresses on wheels, but you should be able to get a set that will give you fewer headaches.
There may be wheelbuilder recommendations on this site. Not sure. Hubby just bought a pair through Genuine George at Speedgoat. They seem to be of super quality. I don't do loaded touring but I have wheels built 20 yrs ago that have never needed truing. Unfortunately that guy is now into woodworking.

Also, have you checked out the Touring section of bikeforums.net? You can get some good advice from the folks on it.
