I will be undergoing 2nd testing to see if I truly have type 2 diabetes. Right now first tests indicate elevated sugar level.
When I was told, I was shocked. But supposedly this can happen to reasonably healthy person like myself. Really I don't need to lose more weight. I'm 98 lbs. at 5'1". Will be 49 yrs. in few wks. I don't smoke and have abit of wine every few months. I've been cycling for past 14 years. I know my intake of sugar in food has increased over past 20 years. When I was a teenager, sugar was rarely in my meals. And as a child, mother rationed our cookie and soft drink intake.
So this latest possible change is abit shocking to me.
So I browsed this thread on type 2 diabetes

Any more thoughts, experiences?

There is no way they can tell whether you have type 1.5 or type 2 diabetes from an elevated fasting blood sugar. The only way is to measure your insulin levels, both fasting and as part of an oral glucose tolerance test. If you are already lean, type 1.5 is a real possibility. This is discussed in the thread you referred to, so please read it, and be sure to ask your docs how they know it is type 2 vs. 1.5 (both are ADULT onset, but while type 2 is caused by insulin resistance, type 1.5 is caused by insulin undersecretion). Get yourself a copy of Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. I control my diabetes *very well* on it.

Guess I'll find out my results next wk. Just returned home from 2nd blood test draw today.
Meanwhile I bought a book. It looks pretty good and one of the many books on the www.glycemicindex.com that my physician-sister recommended at least to look up GI and carb values for certain foods.
She really stripped me down when she found out that I had been skipping lunch when I was at work ...for past 5-6 years. HOnest, I didn't feel hungry..but probably that is screwing up my body and maybe it's becoming insulin resistant..etc.
She herself had a high read of 9 for blood sugar. So shelost 50 lbs. on her own ,since she knew what her own doctor would tell her. (yea, she better set an example for her patients...) so I heard the phone lectures...from her earlier this wk. ;):o Thanks to my baby sister now medical advisor..
I'm still trying to reconcile with the concept of not having white rice to accompany my food. Already in last 8 yrs., I have been naturally eating less rice weekly..only twice per wk. And reduce my bread intake (it has increased in past 10 years).
Sigh. Aside from such adjustments, I guess it won't be a super radical change for me in types of foods. I just have to cut off sugar foods and eat more often, in a healthy way throughout the day. I've never liked soft drinks and seldom have deep fried foods (maybe couple times per yr.)
What do you eat to before and during a long ride...ie. up 100-120 kms. Seriously I think I will eat whatever it takes/is available during the ride to keep me going instead of falling on my face.
