Everyone put up a pic of your tattoos! Large, small, flash, custom- it doesn't matter! Show it off! I'd love to see the art and hear the stories that go along with it.
You can see mine in a previous thread (http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=20440)

I'll post mine too. The ones on my wrists won't be hard to photograph. I'll save my back until the whole thing is done. But, taking a picture of my chest piece will be tricky.
I'll post as soon as I figure out how to do the latter in a classy manner.

Ok ok...I'll tell you ONE of them. My public tattoo is a little dotted eighth note behind my right ear. So I can hear music wherever I go... :)
But now it's become fuzzy with age as tattoos annoyingly tend to do, and it's harder to make out since it's small.

Probably my true colours will show here: I never considered tattoos on females nor males to be sexy.
Can appreciate just the visual art if carefully and tastefully done..as on Andrea. Andrea, how often do you get to show off the bird in public in full unobstructed majesty?
mine is not intended to be sexy. it's a feathered, beaded bracelet on my wrist. A display of solidarity with our Native American brothers and sisters and because I don't wear jewelry.

I don't even have the guts to change my hair color. I don't know how I would pick something so permanent. Then, I'm not the artist type.
My DIL got a tattoo of her son's tiny little premature footprint, on her foot. I can see how significant that is to her. I often think her foot is dirty when I see it, before I remember what it is. My son got SPQR on his arm when he got back from Iraq (it's something about the Roman Legion, but I can't remember the words anymore). Let's just say that the placement and size of both of these tattoos indicate they're not the artist type, either! Or they're just youthfully inelegant...I dunno. Who am I to criticize?
I admire people who can pull them off, though.

BikerHen has some great bike tats. where is she hiding? I think she posted some once before.
I've seen some really beautiful tats over mastectomy scars, flowers and vines and feathers, amazing creative lovely stuff. There's a woman here in Seattle who specializes in doing mastectomy scars. (she does other scars, too, and regular tats; but she's well known for her mastectomy scar work in particular) 2nd one, top row, morning glory, is one of her mastectomy pieces: http://www.vyvyn.com/Gallery/vyvyngallery.html

Gee, that must be a REALLY small cyclist, if even you have trouble finding it... :D sorry, couldn't resist.
No tattoos here, don't have the guts to commit to one. If I had one I'd like a sun or a leaf in the nape of my neck or between my shoulders. Really well done and well-chosen tattoos are inspiring to see, but I'm afraid I'd end up with something cliché'ed or banal.

Oh, I DO have the guts to change my hair color if I really trust my stylist. Last week I went from blonde to dark red. After my son's wedding in March, I think I'm going to go natural gray. I guess I need to get a tattoo so that I can't post pictures here and talk about it. :D

Wow, Zen. I have an affinity for Native Americans, too. Must be the Irish in me. I love your tatt, btw. I'd LOVE to get one like yours. Have you read any of Louise Erdrich's books?
I have a basic road bike tattooed on the outside of my left lower calf. Very simple design.
Still have my multiple ear piercings from my 80s Punk Rock Girl days!

Thanks! I have loved tattoos ever since I was little. My mom tells stories of times when I was 4 or 5 years old and walked right up to bikers to look at their tatts. I have 6 of my own now, but that's the best one. I have plans for more but I'm trying to get back into university so I won't have the money for a couple of years (also hoping to buy a road bike which I can't really afford either.)

All those years of Latin occassionaly come in handy:
SPQR
Senatus Populusque Romanus ("The Senate and the Roman People")
The Roman Legion used it as their standard to display their source of authority.

I took another one that showed more of the positioning (between my shoulder blades) and also showed off my guns, but it also showed off my lovely choice in bras too. So you all get the censored version.
I got mine because dragons hold a very special place in my heart. I have always thought them to be a very beautiful symbol of strength, and particularly feminine strength. It's two dragons entwined around each other in a heart. My brother is a graph artist and designed it for me in high school. I held onto the design for 5 years, and the entire time I still loved the design as much as when I first saw it, so I decided that I would make it a part of me.
I lurve it.

My sister and I have matching tattoos. She designed them. We are twins, and Gemini happens to be our sign. My foot is on the left, and I can tell mostly because my feet get so beat up that I hardly ever bother painting my toenails. My sister has a couple other tattoos, but I just have the one.

I would love to get one myself and the only reason that I don't is because Mr. doesn't like them. I would get something bike or tri related.
I do have piercings, 6. I used to have 8 but Mr. decided that the last two that I got were too "noticible." so he asked me to take them out.

Hello again, TEers! I've been hibernating a bit this year and haven't posted for a while. Moved three times, but finally settled and now commuting two hours a day and more when it snows like this. Back on the trainer, la la la.
So this first calf tattoo I got in March when I went to San Francisco with my sister, who is a lesbian. She's got a heart with wings on her back, rainbow-colored. So I got a Hawthorne chainring with six hearts (my fave number) and wings. Now I just have to get in good enough shape again (mayhaps even a teeny tan) so it looks good.
Unfortunately, I had an ink allergy just to the red heart, less than a half-inch-square, so I've been dealing with that at the dermatologists and may have to get it removed. Sigh. FYI red is the MOST allergic color. WIsh I had known that.
THis second picture is of my first tat, gotten at age 19 out of defiance to a bad boyfriend and because I try to be as resilient as a rubber ducky. I'm on the right; some chick with a more in-your-face duck I met at a writers' conference so we quacked about it in the bathroom and had a photo opp.

The thing I love about my tattoo is that I got it for me. If other people can't tell what it looks like when I'm 80, it doesn't really matter. Half the time I don't even see my tattoo, and other people don't either. The fact is, I know it's there, with me all the time, a kind of physical representation of everything that is inside me. It comforts me.

These are all of my bike related tattoos. I have 2 more non-bike tats, but I don't have any pictures of those.
First up is Biker Hen, my namesake. She's on the back of my left calf.

Next, my homage to Queen on my right shoulder

Third are my bike bugs on my right wrist.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y261/bikerHen/DSCF0472.jpg
Last but not least, Share the Road!! I got the text first, and decided it was not enough so I added the bike.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y261/bikerHen/DSCF0612.jpg
And since my daughter is doing all the work putting my pictures in this thread, she decided to add hers as well. It's her "tramp stamp" and is a work in progress.

I don't have a one but I have what I think is a funny story. I was when I was a new grad and was working at my first job as an OT in an ortho rehab setting. I went into a male resident's room to help him get up as he was only a couple days out from having a total knee replacement done ( he was in his mid 70s). He had a thin sheet on and I saw a lot of lines on his legs, kind of like a lot of "X"s. Me being new and niave I thought maybe it was from the surgery. When I helped him take the sheet off I notice it was along his whole leg. When I asked him what it was he told me it was a tatoo of a fishnet stocking. It went along his whole leg, had the seam in the back and a garter belt!! I asked him why and he said years ago a girl he was dating used to wear them. I asked if he ended up marrying her and he said no. He said he regreted it because he could not wear light colored pants as it would show through and he was an algebra teacher. Sorry this was kind of long, but I still think it is kind of funny

That’s looking pretty awesome, Andrea
Will it have much colour or will it be in dark shades?
And I’m interested in why you chose the 9 headed dragon – its been so long since I read Revelations that I had forgotten all about it!
Andrea
02-05-2008, 11:13 AM
Thanks! The description is a great 7-headed red dragon sent out to eat the mother of the unborn 2nd coming of Christ (represented by the sun-looking thing near the bottom). It's so large that it knocks 1/3 of the stars out of the heavens with its tail (that part is still undrawn and will extend up my torso). I chose it because I was on the road late one night coming home from a bike race, and I heard the most passionate preacher on the radio preaching fire and brimstone. He read the passage, and I thought it sounded like a really awesome tattoo.
I'm not a follower of any specific religion, but I've always had a huge fascination with religious art and symbolism (from any & all religions) because it's always filled with so much emotion and passion. This one is symbolic of evil (the phoenix backpiece is a symbol of rebirth).
Next, I'll have to figure out what I want as a symbol for good :p

ah... I see... (although why I typed 9 instead of 7 I have no idea!)
Very cool, and quite a contrast and yet complimentary to your phoenix.
Hmmm, I symbol for good - how about a "goddess" image - a woman with the three moons... or a tree with Celitc twists in the roots, and relevant-to-you animal and planetray symbols...
I'll hunt out some images and link you to them asap... the pre-Christian Celtic "earth mother" beliefs were about goodness, care, ecology, embracing each other etc etc... Not sure if thats the kind've thing you are after.
I'll hunt about when I am at work - maybe see if I can get a photo of one of my favourite pictures...
