Hi all,

I really like the look of the Gore Passion Ultra Jacket:

I am looking for a jacket to take on an extended bike tour, and the zip off sleeves appeal to me as I won't have to take an extra vest. Plus it is on special at the moment!

I want to know if anyone owns one of these and can tell me how they like it? Also, how is the sizing? They don't sell them here (Australia) so I can't try one on, and the sizing on the fit chart seems smaller than usual?

Let me know.

Thanks!

I have one, in royal blue with white trimmings, and I really like it. I use it for cycling and for running, and I love the zip-off sleeves. It's also nicely visible. It's not totally waterproof, but despite riding in pouring rain I've never gotten soaked from wearing it. I layer it off with wool most of the time.

I can't tell you much about sizing, however. I don't have mine under my eyes. I know it's a bit big on me but I can't remember if it's a small or medium. I know others have found the Gore jerseys to run small but I wouldn't assume that the jackets are the same.

I've not worn the Gore jackets but have you thought about one of the Ground Effect jackets(www.groundeffect.co.nz)"? You can also try Paddy Pallin, Kathmandu or Mountain Designs. Also Mountain Equipment Co-op in Canada (www.mec.ca)

Í'm not sure where in Aussie you are but i've found some of the jackets from the US/NZ etc are too warm for Perth winters. If you're in Tassie they could be just right!

I don't have the She Shell (since my dad brought me a MEC rainjacket) but would get one!

I have a Gore Pac-Lite jacket that I adore. I want one of those Passion Jackets, but as it is just a want and not a need (and you can't find Gore stuff in NZ that I know of), I'm saving my $$$. Zip off arms are great. :)

Anyway, my Gore jacket is a size small and I would say it is equivalent to an NZ size 10. Quite a fitting 10, but the jacket I have is designed to be quite fitting through the torso. In my experience, Aussie sizing is just a little more generous than Kiwi sizing, so maybe the small in this jacket would fit like a size 9 (which doesn't generally exist, I know) in Aussie.

Hi, I thought I'd post an update, in case anyone else is interested in this jacket...
I went ahead and bought it. I got an XS (I'm usually a S) and it fits really well - so it pays to look at the measurements rather than sizing.
Its super lightweight, looks great and has stood up to small showers so far (haven't had enough rain lately to test it out on big showers). Its really nicely breathable.
I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is considering it.
