Woke up late today (can't imagine why), to beautiful sunshine, low humidity, perfect temperature. Felt like a long run (for me) - 10K, longest I've run since I don't even remember when. Ever, is possible. Nice and slow, I didn't care. Yummy.

4 miles in 27 degree weather and serious wind, but I felt good and strong. I forgot my chapstick, though, and my lips look and feel gross.....

I ran a New Year's Day 10k. It was freezing, 40 mph winds, and huge snow flakes. DD was in the baby jogger, she kept complaining about it "snowin in [her] eyes!" She was a real trooper. Finished in 52 minutes exactly . .. I'm almost positive the course was a little short as I can't run that fast with a tailwind and dry roads.

I'm back in business! - ran a pretty fast 5.5 k yesterday - first run in 2 weeks.
Then 11K base endurance today. The last 1K or so I sped up because boyfriend just couldn't take it anymore, he was running in circles around me and taking a pee in between :p and still catching up with me.

I ran a MILE yesterday! lol I knew that's not exciting, but I've had plantar fasciitis since Thanksgiving. This was my first run since then. I did it on the treadmill after warming up on the bike. My foot is somewhat sore, but I can walk this morning. That's HUGE. I'm going to try another mile tomorrow. Got my fingers crossed for still being able to do a HIM this summer...
I read this thread for some motivation this morning, kicked my @ss into gear and headed out for a short 5km run on a nearby trail. It didn't feel especially good, but I'm glad I did it.
Yesterday's New Year's Day run was better. I headed out to downtown with a friend to witness the thousand + crazy "polar bear swimmers" that hit the frigid water (6C, i.e. approx 40F?) of English Bay. It was the 88th consecutive year of the event, impressive. Some folks there have been doing it for over 30 years. Anyway, we ran back home from there, about 11 km. He's not much of a runner and did not have proper shoes but with regular walking breaks he made it, in a decent time too. It was a cool run.
I've planned all of my workouts for the next two weeks. I just have to do it, now.

About 4km in about 27mins for an average speed of about 8.9kph. Kinda warm (~26degC), but overcast at least. Legs of lead after yesterday's HOT (30+degC) and hilly ride, but at least I got out there and did it - had written run:25-30mins in my diary and didn't want to have to cross it out!
I want to get up to running at 10kph. I can do it on a treadmill, but my mind wanders so much when there's nothing else controlling my feet and I slow down without realising.

3.5 miles on Monday the 1st and 2.5 miles today.
I followed another runner for a while today and my time at the 1/2 way point was WAY faster than normal! I think the distraction helped. Maybe I should start using an ipod or something just to take my mind away from the fact my toe hurts or my shin hurts or my back hurts...I'm a whining runner :D Or maybe I need to vary my route to have more adventure.

God yes, I so want a Shuffle for running. But I want to buy a house, so I can't go spending money on toys when it could go into the deposit. :(

The Shuffle was the second best thing I ever bought for running, the first being a pair of shoes to suit my gait. I love my shuffle, sorry I'm not helping.
Not been out running yet, hoping to get out tonight either on my own or with the club. Its forecast snow here today.....ha ha.

Did 3mi yesterday on the treadmill at work, the usual, then this morning I joined a new group of ladies that run on T/Th at 5am (). It was something like 20F without wind and 10 with. I was wearing more layers than I've ever rocked while running, but then I usually wait to run until the sun is up.
It was a great run though, 5.5 miles at a really slow pace (like, 12min/miles) because it was just so durn cold. And windy. And dark.
Despite all that, i think I'll go back next week!

8 miles last night in the dark, it was on my schedule for today but I did it last night because in about 2 hours the pouring rain will start, and I don't enjoy running in pouring rain and flooded streets with gutters full of rushing water. 17 days until my 1/2 marathon!!!!

2.3 miles on New Year's day (44 degrees F). Scheduled for another run tomorrow morning, but the temperature will be around 18. Not sure I really want to tackle that. Maybe I'll run the treadmill at the pool...

Got out for a run finally this year!!!! Decided not to go out with the club in case only the fast ones turned up as feeling like a very unfit bloater today :(. That'll teach me to be lazy in December and eat and drink way too much! 4.25 miles done, felt hard work as the first run after a break always does but its done now. Feel quite good now and will get out again tomorrow.
The forecast snow hasn't materialised in this part of the UK though is now forecast to be a parky 0C at lunchtime tomorrow when I intend running rather than the almost double figure temps that were promised earlier - the sea front will be bracing then!

DH has an ipod I can inherit. So not to be too OT here but what type of headphones/ear things work the best for running? (Not total headphones, I know.) What is the best way to carry it? We just swapped out our computer so I need to download all the software again and learn how to use the ipod. I think this might definitely help though! Now I'll have to search for a thread on good running music.

Interval day again today - my intervals were a bit quicker and my HR recovered MUCH faster than when I did the same workout last week. Could be any number of reasons, but I'm going to say it's because regular running is paying off :D We'll see what happens next week! 4.1 miles today.

Ugh, after my 8 miler yesterday my legs felt like cement today and all I could manage was a sluggish 2 miles on the dreadmill.

First off, 2 miles after an 8 miler the day before is substantial and your legs should feel like cement. You deserve it.:)
I put in 5 miles at lunch. Short (1/4 mile intervals) in Z4. Not bad for not running in ages.:D
I love my shuffle too.

Oooh, Wahine, intervals straight off after "not running in ages," are you sore as h3ll? I would be!
But partial hijack: how do you calculate your HR zones? I let my ForeRunner software do it. According to the gadget, Z2 starts right about where I start to breathe hard, which is 144, and that makes sense, but that means the rest of the zones on up to my max are very narrow (8-10 bpm). Can that be right?

I was a weather weenie this morning (18 degrees F ) so I did 2.4 miles on the treadmill at the pool. I like the treadmill because it forces me to keep up my pace, but I hate the treadmill because it forces me to keep up my pace, and it's hot! ;)

Hey teigyr, I don't usually run with my ipod but sometimes I use it on the treadmill. I will usually just use the regular ipod earbuds but they do have a tendency to wiggle out so I bet it would work better with a headband to keep em in place. My mom swears by the Sennheiser brand (lots of people seem to like that brand for working out) behind the head model, but they are a bit more spendy than cheap earbuds. I got my brother the ear clips made by Philips to run with. I guess it depends on your preference? Some people don't like the ear clip things because they hurt.

Another mile on the treadmill yesterday. My foot still feels good today. Maybe I'm beating the PF. I'm trying so hard not to push myself too soon, but it's so hard to do. It's funny because one of the things I emphasize with my patients is letting things heal and not trying to do stuff too soon. I'm my own worst patient!

I ran 8 miles this morning! That's the longest distance I've done in a long, long time. I felt really good. Almost pushed for 9--but didn't want to over do it.
iPods--I love mine for running. Can't wear the ear buds for the life of me. I have freakishly small ears and they won't fit. I like the traditional ear phones but with the band that goes more around the back of the head instead over top. And, I really like the ones with volume control on the wire--saves me from messing with the iPod when I'm running. I just clip mine onto my shorts or tights.

10 slow, cold, wet, unpleasant miles. Did I mention slow? I think "shuffling" is the proper term. I don't know why I feel so crappy today. Oh well, at least I got the mileage in, that's the important thing (or at least that's what I'm telling myself). :)

I get my orthotics on Thursday. Then I can start running again. Sigh. I'm tired of waiting.
Ugly weather this morning (as most recent days, and most coming days I'm afraid) but pulled myself out for my long run. It was sort of a rest week and my shortest long run until my coming half-marathon, that is 15 km and change. In the forest, it was just beautiful, I forgot about my little mechanical complaints (sore ankles, sore feet...) and just ran. I feel much better now.
Now on to Monster Month.

Three minutes target race pace, three minutes recovery jog, repeats plus warmup and return run, total 5.4 miles yesterday. I guess this is a form of fartlek? It was a beautiful day.
I really struggle with an intermediate pace. My legs either want to go at their accustomed slow rate, or a hard run that I can't sustain for 5K (or even 1K, probably). Hopefully doing these short stints will get me used to the pace I want to run.

Yesterday, I did my first run since--get this--1995. There's a group of people that I ride with who get together to run on Saturdays and Sundays during the winter. After a couple of months of feeling sort of left out, I met up with them yesterday. New running shoes and all. The group is rather motley in that some people run at a pretty good clip, some a bit slower, some do intervals and some just walk. Then they all meet up for breakfast and shoot the breeze.
I had planned on doing intervals but instead more or less ran with a few of the slower people. I ended up doing just under 3 miles. Considering the most anybody in the group does is 4, I was pleased. From there, I went to my usual spinning class but took it easy. I just wanted to keep my muscles moving. I'm sore today, but not horribly. It'll pass.
I'm not necessarily looking to get into running like I'm into cycling. I ran track and x-country for a couple of years when I was in H.S. but sustained a number of injuries. I ended up quiting it and my team cold turkey, something that has been the source of much regret. I ran off and on a bit through college and law school but never really came to love it. The fact that I had fun yesterday was a bigger accomplishment for me than the running itself. I think my attitude about myself as an athlete has changed in the last couple of years thanks to biking and yoga. I'm more of a "I think I can" girl than I used to be.
Yesterday, I did my first run since--get this--1995.
Great job Indysteel! Congrat on getting out there.

indy, I feel the same way about running. But the fact is, it's a great thing to do when I can't get out andbike, if it's too cold/icy, or if I'm travelling.
also, are you from indianapolis? The Boy and I are doing the 500 Mini-Marathon in May out there!

Went for a run my self this afternoon at work. Was gonna just do treadmill since I only brought a pair of shorts and tank top, but all the other ladies were chattering about how nice it was and how they were gonna go outside, so I took a step outside and realized it was GORGEOUS, mid-60s and sunny. Did about 3 miles and felt good and actually managed to take the time to cool down unlike I usually do when I run at work. So no cold sweats rigth now at my desk, yay!

I am from Indianapolis. That's great that you're doing the Mini. It's turned into a hard race to get into. Where are you traveling from? If you need any advice or help with your visit, please let me know.

So true. I didn't have any grand ambitions when I first started riding either. If I recall, my first bike ride in June of 2006 was 6 miles. My longest ride in 2007 was 160 miles! I could surprise myself again I suppose.

I live in PA, but The Boy's sister runs the race every year (she lives somewher in IN and his parents live close to Indianapolis) so we will be staying with his folks and hanging out with the fam. She runs alot faster than me though, she always finishes near the top of her AG, I think she has the pride of holding the record as the fastest woman in Bedford, IN! :p
