Happy Holidays!!!
Eating Tips for the Holidays:

1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet
table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots,
leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can and quickly. You can't find it any
other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000
calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an
'eggnog-aholic' or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it!!!! Have one for
me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of
gravy. Gravy does not stand-alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your
mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or
whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car
with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control
our eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other
people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello???

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New
Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is
the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table
while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like
frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself
near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them
behind, you're never going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple, pumpkin and mincemeat - have a slice of each.
Or, if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the
mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some
standards.

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party
or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention. Reread tips.
Start over. But hurry... January is just around the corner!

Remember this motto to live by: 'Life should NOT be a journey to the
grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well
preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in hand, body
thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO-HOO what a ride!'

(OK, I was gonna post this in the humor section but I thought I'd get more of a chuckle with it here - enjoy:D )

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

I think there'll be a bunch of TE folks that will be sliding in sideways.

But they forgot - Champagne is the beverage that goes with everything! Bubbly isn't just for New Year's! ;)

I thought gravy was one of the four basic food groups.

Carry a spare fork just in case you lose one.

(I'll eat your fruitcake)

Hmmmmmm.... sugar, salt, starch, grease, alcohol.... nope, gravy's not a food group, just a composite of three of them!

OMG! I love that!

Gravy, fruitcake and eggnog will never touch my lips, but I promise to make up for it with cookies, pie, nuts, cheeses, wine and danish kringle. :p

I follow all of these rules except #6. That way, I can delude myself into thinking it is OK to consume 5,000 calories a day worth of all of the aforementioned foods. Plus beer. I like beer.

1. Avoid carrot sticks.
Yup... I managed this - no carrot of any kind anywhere near the dining table :p

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can and quickly.
No egg nogs at our place - I am the only one who likes them and they are too rich for me now :(

3. If something comes with gravy, use it.
Yup... my son made a large quantity of gravy - enough so we had leftovers today with the leftover roast lamb :p

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or
whole milk.
Well... our mashed taters were made with butter only - no milk. Also i make roast potatos - I coat them in olive oil and salt... yummmm... (and both are great with or without gravy...

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control
our eating.
Snacking began at 3pm with chokies and then chees, and then more chockies (still no carrot sticks...)

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New
Year's.
'Fraid I can't do that - I have to bike - but I promise not to do any "other" exercise :D

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like
frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself
near them and don't budge.
Um... guilty... it was chocolate marzipan thingies... and if you wait long enough, the people near you move, so the next ones that move in beside you think you are only having your second - not your twenty-second

8. Same for pies. Apple, pumpkin and mincemeat - have a slice of each.
Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert?
Um... no pies here... but dessert was sponge, pavlova, raspberries, blackberries, stollen, ice-cream and cream... yes, I had a bit of everything!

9. Did someone mention fruitcake?
I don't like fruit-cake - so I had some "Rainbow Cake" instead... no fruit, but the colours looked like fruit...

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party
or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention.
Oh yes... I was well into "poisoned/food overload" territory... groaning whimpering and waiting for my body to deal with the food... I still felt ill this morning... so what did I do? Ate some more chocolate, had some chocolate biscuits and made myself a sandwich of cold roast lamb and cold gravy...;)

Hi, it is very frequently heard if you want to loose weight you must diet and exercise. Obviously it is right but diet pills should also aid in weight loss. The reason I say this is because with exercise, you are to get your heart rate up to a certain amount to increase the amount of calories burned. You're told to do this, and keep it at that rate while you are exercising. Diet pills containing certain herbal supplements increase your heart rate. Many people say diet pills don't work, but then you tell how to exercise and increase your heart rate to burn more calories?

Are you trying to say that you can't get your heart rate up without diet pills?

That's simply not true.

Are you from Arkansas?

Save your money on the diet pills. In today's society most of us look for the "magic bullet" to fix everything. The truth is, there are no simple fixes. the equation for weight loss is very simple......you have to use more calories than you consume. Which means you either eat less or do more, or both.

OK... with the plethora of suspicion on the board at the moment to new posters with strange comments... razorback, I am a bit unsure of why you posted this and only one post since you joined.

And to title you post intimating dieting is better than exercise? I am sorry but I have to disagree - if you are staying here at TE, please look around the board and get a feel for the members here.

We know that dieting is one aspect of weight loss but will not work effectively or be long term without a change in overall lifestyle - including exercise.

If you are genuine - I apologise if this post causes offence

My diet has been more less been see it eat it till recently.

Try it, yoooouuuu'll like it. And I DOOOO. I'm like Mikey he eats everything.
Gawd do I luv spinach, citrus fruit, Avocado, turnips, lettuce and salad of all kinds... meat, fish, dairy products mostly cheese, Hard cheese especially, grain... pasta you name it, okay there are few things I hate (pickled harring, ludafesk (sp) 1000 year old eggs)

I'm soo badd, I scanvage and eat things off the ground :eek:

mushrooms. hiking and I'm usually looking for them. :p black morrels, chantrelles, boletes, matsutake, ...

Sorry but I don't believe in diet pills. I rather enjoy life and work off the excess. Besides, cycling is soo much fun.

One thing I don't do, "supersize me" or eat at fast food places. I draw a blank the last time when I went and had any kind of fast food. okay so I had a diet coke at company Christmas luncheon in '07.

Thai or chinese for lunch stir fried vegies or tom ka kai soup.... hard choice. getting near that time now... Buddha's delight sounds yummy. Oh I do control my portions. We always doggie bag our restaurant dinner and make a second meal out of it. Portions are always too big.
