I am now inside on my trainer on a daily basis. I have an old, retired pair of gloves I wear when I'm indoors but dang they stink! I've tried washing them in hot water but the smell is still there. I'll admit I'm cheap so I hate to toss them out for they are not completely worn out and therefore I want to continue to use them. Is there something I could soak them in to remove the smell (they basically have a bad case of BO).

Thanks!

Have you tried WIN?

http://www.windetergent.com/

I'm in love with this stuff. I got it at D*ck's. I admit it's more expensive than regular, but maybe less than a new pair of gloves?

I had this same question and posted it. See this thread:

I am loving Win Detergent also (thanks Silver!). I've found if I auto-order it through Amazon, it's really cheap. I get 4 bottles every 3 months for $17-something per shipment. They discount it for the auto-order and they don't charge shipping. You can also change your mind at any time and order quicker if you run out or postpone an order if you don't need it.

I'm using Win for more than my cycling stuff actually. It works on sheets and towels and all sorts of laundry :D

My summer gloves get stinky too! I can't figure it out -- they get much yuckier smelling than my jerseys or armwarmers ever even come close to getting -- how???

I've washed them in the machine with everything else -- seems to help but doesn't solve the problem completely.

Ohhhh! wow I'll look that up. I love how my closet smells when I hang up my wet just washed cycling clothes to dry. Actually today I noticed as I was dressing (in regular clothes) that the shirt had been washed in WIN. I put it to my nose and took a big whiff and felt "the spirit of cycling" ;) I'm kinda joking but not completely! :o

I'll be washing more and more in it. To me it smells so refreshingly clean!!!!

I use Dr. Bronner's castile soap for pretty much everything. Eucalyptus is the best for stains and smells. Lavender just plain smells the best.

I'm a hippie-child, raised on a quasi-commune (well, for awhile...) so I'm a Dr. Bronner's babe. Yup, I read the bottles.

Wash with just a bit of vinegar in the water?

Yes, I just head for the white vinegar or baking soda when stuff gets stinky . . . but the dog goes to the day spa.

Lucky dog. I'd take a day spa over white vinegar any day!

wash your gloves more frequently and they won't get stinky in the first place. seriously -- my gloves go in the laundry every week. and then they never stink.

another alternative to gloves on the trainer is to drape a dishtowel over the hoods/bar.

Silver, did your post get edited, specifically the name of ****'s Sporting Goods?

I was going to suggest vinegar too.

This is what I do, too. Even a couple times per week. And, I have had the same pair for about 3 years now!! They seem to last through the washes.

WIN is just regular detergent with Oxyclean premixed into it. They've done an excellent job of marketing it. You can get the exact same results with regular detergent and a scoop of Oxyclean or Biz at much less cost.

Here is my famous "stinky bike gear" recipe.

presoak in biz ( or other enzyme presoak) over night, then wash with any detergent and Oxyclean or other oxygen booster. Ta da, stink is gone.

but hey, use whatever makes you happy.

I typed "*" rather than "i" knowing that it would turn into all "****" otherwise.

Irulan, which product smells like WIN? Oxyclean or Biz? I used to use Biz on baby clothes. I recall that it got out formula stains and smells, but don't recall it having a great smell.

Biz doesn't have a great smell, it gets rid of the smell.

I odn't know, I've never used WIN. After reading the website and marketing promo, I saw no reason to buy it. I ran the info past my technical fabrics/ laundry chemistry mentor and that was all. She is the one who gave me the recipe.

It's so great when you find stuff like that out. You know when they offer this magic thing and you find out it's only this that or the other. Marketing really makes me mad sometimes.

It is good to find out stuff like this! I'll definately try Irulan's suggestion.

But, I think that I'll probably still use WIN. I've really come to love the product and the job that it does. I like the fragrance, too. It smells really clean to me.

I do agree with the marketing frustration, but I don't use it because of any hype about it. The only part of their marketing that did affect me was their product placement. It was sitting on top of the rack of clothes that I was looking at (I think Under Armour long sleeve shirts) at D*ck's. I grabbed it rather than the shirt and it did the job that it said that it did.

Deciphering technical obfuscation is a form of amusement to me. I.E., what are they really saying with all that jargon. Most of it is BS most of the time.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I found a product called "Sport-Wash" at my local grocery store the other day. It works great - my gloves smell so good now!
