So I guess most of you know that I want to sell my Giant OCR3 to get a tri bike. I pretty much decided that I want to go for the Specialized Transition Elite. :) Market price is 1599.99 but luckly I can get a decent discount since I work at a bike shop.

Thats a very nice bike. I'm going to be getting a Specialized Dolce Elite. It too is about $1200.00, gosh maybe I should get a job at a bike shop. I have only heard great things about these bikes. Really top of the line. :)

Me too. I haven't gotten this bike I just looked at bikes last Saturday and decided this was the one I can't live without. I'm waiting to get tax returns back first to purchase it.
Well when you get it I really hope you get as much joy out of it as I know I will with mine.:D

i have an '04 dolce elite.... for the most part i'm very happy with it.... if they just hadn't used the specialized brand... crank i think it's called (the 3 front gears)... i have had issues with that from day 1 and from what i'm hearing.. it was an '04 issue and they have since switched which one they are using!

Cali: Have you talked/written Specialized? If they knows its an 04 thing and have switched them out for 05 - maybe they'll give you a replacement part or something. Like a recall maybe?

ya know... i should call them... but i've heard not so good things about specialized warranty.... plus one guy who has an '04 had his crack.. and he specifically asked to have it replced with ... i believe he said 105... and they wouldn't do it :(

but it never hurts to call.. cuz i thought sure shimano wouldn't warranty my shifter and they are (at least i think they are.. they have it at their facility as i type!)

I work at a bike shop too, you get CRAZY discounts... especially if you employee purchase stuff. Another perk of the job is you get to know all of the customers and have all sorts of people to ride with... and get other tips from the other employees, because most of them are guys and know what they are talking about.. I love my job.. besides of being a student.

wow you sound just like me. Yeah I work with all guys... this guy shawn has been extremly helpful... I mean constantly talking to me... cool guy. All the guys there are cool.
Yes CRAZY discount.... cause that is the real price that is jacked up haha. Thats how much it ACTUALLY is... and not the jacked up price that includes shipping and paying people to buiild it. I love working there, its the greatest. I have learned TONS of things in just the last week.... he said by the time he is finished with me I will be able to fix just about anything, build a bike, etc. Awesome stuff...
Yeah, I hate being a student! When I grad (HS) They want me full time if I dont leave for the Army. I hope to go to college..... work full time at the shop! I love it!
Glad to see more females and aroundish my age, lol working in the shops! Take care!

well since you dont go to the shop that I work at... yet alone know what state lol.......... almost 50%... atleast where I work. Cause really , it doest cost THAT much to produce a bike... just mainly shipping (not that much) and paying people to make it and put it together etc.
Same with accessories.... not that expensive./... I got a $70 HR monitor and a $20 tshirt and paided only $52 for it....
I like it since that is were all my money goes... to the bike shop lol.

I LOVE the shirt... says "RIDE NOW, work later" by specialized hahaha. :)

My new baby...she's such a sweet ride. Specialized Dolce WSD, 44cm (I'm 4'11"). If you had told me two years ago that I'd be calling a bike my baby I would have called you crazy but since getting my first road bike two years ago my bikes are part of the family :D

I just bought a Specialized Allez, not top of the line but I really like it, I just wish the color was purtier, I may have to have it repainted or something.

It was all I could afford and since I am just starting to ride/do tri's it will work for now.

I am having troubles with it changing gears tho, when I am in the first 7 it slips when I change, it just started happening, I need to get it to the shop since I have only had it about a month or so.

my dolce elite was/is a nightmare with shifting! it started... just like you.. about a month after i had it.. took it in.. worked fine a few days.. then same problem..

it also drops off the smallest gear... A LOT! very frustrating when i'm dropping cuz i'm climbing a hill... sometimes it will go back on if i shift up.. sometimes i have to stop.. grrrr..

i finally resorted to new, better cables... it worked like butter for a while (but still dropped off)... but now it's back to wanting to grind...

oh.. it also used to hop (skip?) gears.. for no reason.. but that seems to be fixed with the new cables...

i've been told that specialized has some issues with their.. is it the crank? (the 3 front gear thingys?)

i've only had it about 8 months and i'm ready for a new bike that works smoothly!

I have a '04 Specialized Roubaix Elite, and I was wondering what you were talking about with the crankset. I have a triple with STI shifters and Ultegra derailleurs. Are you guys talking about the shifters or the actual front and rear cogs? I seem to be having a lot of shifting issues. Hubby has adjusted my derailluers multiple times but I still seem to have issues shifting between the rings in the front (mainly from the little ring up to the middle ring and the big ring down to the middle... it will skip right down to the little ring.)

Mine isn't a Specialized but I've had problems with shifting also and no one can seem to find the problem. Or they DO find the problem, fix it and it works Great for about 1-3 days then it starts up again. I've just learned to live with it and believe it or not, figured out how to feather rapid-shifters!
My issue is between gears 3-5 on the cassette. The chain just does Not want to go into those gears easily. It either grinds until I feather the shifter or it grinds and Clunks (drops) into the gear. Sometimes it drops so hard I can feel it in the frame. The first time I took it back I was told the derailluer was bent so they straightened it and it worked Perfect for a few days. Then it started again. When I took it back a second time, they found a derailleur screw loose and tightened it and it worked Great again - for about 24 hrs. The third time they actually brought the mechanic out (their best they said) and he said the problem was the handlebar shifters so I switched out to rapid-fire which I love!! The first week I rode with the rapid-fire it was great, then it started again. It doesn't matter if I'm shifting on load or not - I can be flying downhill and shifting in anticipation of the upcoming stopsign and have to feather the shifters coz its grinding or I get the "grind and drop". I've asked my LBS if the cogs could be bent but they keep telling me no. So I've just stopped asking and stopped taking it in....I don't want to be without my bike for very long and I've learned how to compensate for it. But thank you for letting me know it isn't "just me"! :o
