Today I bought a new trek jet 16 for my 4 year old. The price wasn't a great deal (they seem to be the same price at all the bike shops) and it's last year's model, no discount. But I liked the look of last year's model better anyway, and they threw in a water bottle and cage, and the bell, and a giant red ribbon for Christmas morning. I tried to get them to throw in a trek hardtail mountain bike in OD green, but no go.
I guess I'm so excited because I never got a shiny new bike for Christmas, large gifts like that were usually used, and in all the ads and commercials you always see the Christmas bike under the tree. I can imagine how wonderful that would be for me, and I hope Andy loves it. No pictures, it's hidden at my parent's house since I bought it down there (cheaper sales tax).

What a great gift. He's going to love it. I remembered I got a new bike for Christmas when I was 7 or 8. Of all the gifts I ever got for Christmas, the one that stands out the most is a bike.

The Trek Jet is a great bike, and while it costs more than a box-store bike, you can rest assured that it will be safe and sturdy and that the shop where you purchased it will be able to service it.

he's a very lucky boy! do you live in a climate where he'll get to try it out right away? or will he have to wait until the spring thaw?

Ahh love to hear that!
And as for the price, keep in mind that on bikes all shops work on about the same margin. Bikes are between 38-43% markup. Seeing as how a shop usually needs to make about a 41% margin just to keep the lights on, there's not much wiggle room there.
Not that you cared to hear all that, but I just wanted to let you know that you prolly got about the best deal you could. And freebies are always good.

Ride safe, ride hard, have fun!

I think he'll be able to put on a coat and try it out, if we don't have snow. The bike shop gives a deal where whenever you're ready to trade up, they give you half what you paid for it. He'll probably get a couple of years out of it. It's so cute with the matching jelly-bell (or whatever they're called ) and miniature water bottle. He'll have as much fun with the bell as with the bike, while the weather's bad (he rings the bell on my bike all the time)
