A few months ago when I found that I was spending the vast majority of my biking time on the road, I decided to get a road bike. After doing some research, I found that there weren't really a whole lot of options in my price range (cheap). Being a mechanically inclined individual, I figured I was up for setting up my own bike, so I bought one on ebay.

For $589 shipped I got this:

As far as I can tell, it's a decent bike. I got a shorter stem for $10 from my LBS, and replaced the one-sided pedals with Shimano M540's. I've put about 300 miles on it in the last 2-3 months and so far I love it.

I'm curious if anyone else has gone a similar route with their bike purchase (or knows someone who has) and how it is working out.

Yes, it looks like a nice looking bike. Where do they come from?

My sense is that they are originally an English bike...but I could be wrong.

I remember reading on another forum that it is not the English company. Bikesdirect.com sells Dawes bikes along with Windsor and Motobecane bikes, and I have read that they are all related somehow.

Yup it looks exactly like that, except mine has an XS frame, and I added Vision mini aero bars, and of course bottle cages and a bright red saddle bag.
