How do you store your bike(s), do you use one of those wall/free standing bike storage racks? Nancy

Mostly, they lean against the wall (or each other! :eek: ).
My commuter stands on a cheap Performance Quick-stand in the garage.

It really depends on what kind of bikes you have and how many. My husband and I have over 6 bikes. We are fortunate to have a lot of extra space. We found that the hook that screws into the wall works the best and we can line them up next to each other. (the hooks only cost 2.00-3.00) an can be found at any hardware store. You can also hang them from the ceiling in your garage with the same hooks... we have done that in the past.

You can also buy a rack that goes against the wall and you can hang multiple bikes on it.

We use those gravity stands available at Target. Mtb's on one, roadie bikes on the other.

I'd like to see a picture of this if someone would post one. We use the two hooks and hang bikes by both tires, but I'm not sure I know how to do it by just the front tire. Thanks.

I'm currently storing my bike on the trainer in the hopes that seeing it there ready to go will make me more likely to use the trainer!

Otherwise, leaning on the bedroom wall.

We do the hook on the wall thing in a "bike shed" DH built just for the bikes. Only problem is the MTBs have such wide handlebars they make getting things in and out right next to them a bit tough. But we have no garage, so this is a good alternative.

All of my 3 bikes are locked up in a communal bike storage locker in an underground parking garage. I live in a highrise condo-apt. We have several communal bike storage lockers. They are caged areas.

By the way, our building also has a communal kayak storage locker area. ANd yes, it's used...

I'd like to see a picture of this if someone would post one.

This is how we hang ours. The hooks are high enough off the ground that the back tire doesn't touch. Just hang it by the front and the back tire rests against the wall. Even the heavy mtn bikes hang well.

Wow, that's great. I didn't realize they would hang there like that by one hook. Ours are from the ceiling with two hooks. Thanks for the pic!

hubby built a great space for himself and our bikes in the garage...he now has room to work on them without having to rearrange everything! Our camping gear is stored on top so when we go away for weekends everything is in one spot ready to go. The roadies are kept on a wall rack in the dining room...

I have a garage just for bikes, attached to our studio. We have an old place with decades of out-buildings that have been repurposed over the years--this garage was the carriage house, and the studio was a dairy barn at one time. We also have a 1200 sq ft shop building with a large overhead door. (Unfortunately, there's no place indoors to park our cars!)

But anyway, last summer I took some of the paper wallboard off the ceilings in the garage and put rafter hooks up there. Four road bikes hang up there from their front wheels. Various frames, parts, etc., and bikes with problems are hanging up, too. The mountain bikes are on the floor in a rack, and my new(old) Centurion is leaning against the wall. The Schwinn I bought at a garage sale the other day is the only one with a kick stand so it stands up by itself. Hubby built me a work bench with peg board for Christmas last year, and got me a stand and a bunch of tools. I put the old rug from the dining room in there so I have a cushy place to stand. Whenever I get around to taking the "toy archive" out of there, I'll have a place to attach my kayak to the wall, too.

We have a one car garage that houses four bicycles, two (soon to be three) motorcycles, two kayaks, and assorted tools. We do the hooks screwed into the wall to hold the bikes.

The cars sit outside in the snow/rain/blazing sun. :D

Ours are all over the place and alternate between the garage and the living room!

We have hanging space for 5 bikes - three hang on hooks by the front (or sometimes rear) tire. These are high enough that when I pull my car into the garage, they clear the hood (just barely). The other two are hung by the top tube on a wall rack. One is super high and can only be reached by ladder, so often that hook only holds unused tires while the bike ends up propped up some where else.

The other bikes are currently on the workstand in the garage, leaning against the fireplace in the living room and propped up against the back of the couch (also in the living room). (we have 8 :o )

I decided against the scooter, I'm getting a small-ish dirt bike. I'll ride it to work (free parking for MC's) and take it over to a friends farm and act young and stupid. :D

Keep my 3 bikes in the garage using these to keep them from falling over, and since they are wheels the bikes can be shuffled a bit.
I love some of the beautiful wall art/bikes, though. Great photos of very neat living quarters for your bikes!

Our system is similar to Bouncy Bouncy's - we have 4 bikes hung on rubberized covered hooks that hang from the ceiling in the garage. Just one hook per bike on the ceiling and the rest of the bike just rests against the wall.

Of course, we have more than 4 bikes, so the rest of the bikes are in our storage area under our house resting up against boxes and all the other stuff that is in storage, you know, like christmas ornaments, barbeque grills, etc.

We're re-working how we store our bikes because we just moved to a house where we can have all the bikes in the garage. The road bikes, the BOB trailers, and maybe the tandem will be on wall hooks. We're considering the Rubbermaid rack/hook system because we can adjust the width between bikes as we buy/sell new ones with different width requirements.

Anything with suspension will be stored upright on the floor with either store-bought metal racks or a homemade wood rack that just takes the rear tires. Suspension doesn't like to be hung. It isn't designed to bear weight in an extended position.

Ours is very similar to SK's...except it's from Sears.

The wall studs in the available walls in our garage were not in the right place to hang multiple bikes. So we got this track system with a gift card we'd gotten for Christmas. It works well. We use the 'wheelbarrow' hook in the photo below for the two mountain bikes (hung by handlebars) and we have plain hooks that we use for the road/touring/retro bikes. They slide laterally, so you can accomodate multiple sizes of bikes. You can also get baskets and stuff to store gear...

I have three bikes.....Two (a heavy old commuter and a newish mtb) are stored in my small garage on a free-standing Ultimate Velo Cache Compact storage rack from Nashbar that's still on sale. (Was @$130, now $45.) I don't have a heckuvalot of upper body strength, so the rack works better for me than a system that would require lifting either of the heavy bikes shoulder high or higher. It's also easy to move bikes and rack outside when I need to make space to work in the garage.......

The third, a new road bike that I ride on country roads outside of town, stays at-the-ready in the locked, enclosed bed of my pickup, tucked/hidden under a thick wool blanket. ;)

Usually in the dining room. When I need to entertain, I move them to my stepson's bedroom. And in the winter, my road bike is usually in the living room ready to get on the rollers in front of the television.

A friend of mine who was a bike mechanic--and a dedicated biker---hangs his bikes from the BACK tire. He noticed that hanging them from the front caused the slightest little hitch he could feel when turning the wheel...

Meantime...our bikes are strewn all over the house....until we get a shed up...but 'm not sure I want my bike out there anymore than I want my dogs outside in a kennel!!!!

Right now I have 25 bicycles in my garage. My friend's car is in the driveway (she's staying there with her four kiddos). They're just sitting there; no equipment for efficiency, though I've thoguht about it. I haven't been there long enough to have clutter grow and take over the garage (give it time!).

When the bike coop folks take the 20 Huffies to Chicago there might be room for the car... I considered taking some of my bikes over to where I'm staying now but there's no garage there, so I'd rather have the one I'm using locked in the carport and then ride the half-mile out and switch off at the garage. (Hey, it's more mileage towards my 10K goal).

When I am in my house often one is in the living room :) :D ... oh, and when I decorate the one on the trainer...

What a great thread! Good help here.

I'm going away for a while, and am thinking about what to do with my bike. I COULD probably hang it in the garage, but the garage is less secure than inside. When I asked the bike shop folks, they suggested I leave it upside down inside.

What do you folks think?

I hear ya. My road bike is hanging in my bedroom. My MTB & DH's hybrid stay outside on the patio. They like it there - the wilderness & all that.

The road bike is custom, so that's my excuse for my bedroom wall art.
