What happened to Sarah that requires her to have surgery???

It's sad to see her leave competitive sport however i'm sure quite a few young girls will have taken up the sport because of her.

I wish her the best in her next endeavours.

Doesn't she have a back injury that causes problems ??? :(

Amazing when you read her competitive career spans 16 years............She appears to have inspired her Dad as well as young girls in taking up the sport, he's taken up competitive cycling at 70 !

I'm sure what ever she does, it will be with the same enthusiasm that she cycled with :D

Yeah, it's who you are that counts; not just what you do.
Best of luck to her!

I saw that. Always sad to see someone sidelined permanent by health problems. As I recall, she has had chronic problems with sciatica.

Yes... back injury

I understand that she can have an operation but there is only a 50/50 chance that she will get a good result and the result will not be good enough to allow her to race...

I only hope she can still do her women and children SUB-rides

Must be devastating to not be able to do something that was so much your life. But she has good support in her partner, and she has the business she is going to put more energy into.

But gutting for other Ulmer fans too I assume - not just me - there was always the hope she might come back to it and compete or bike right through her life like Watson and some of the other great NZ cyclists.
