I'm signed up to do my first Ironman next year...Ironman Lake Placid. Any of you doing IMLP? It would be fun to support each other as we train.

It is a big step and I'm really looking forward to the journey. My goal is to finish and be happy with how I trained and raced. I'm middle of the packer on a good day.

I'm a Mom to 5 kids (18-9) so it takes some juggling to get training in, but my husband is super supportive most of the time and my kids think it is neat. Next year will be my 5th year of doing tris. I used to weigh over 250 pounds and was couch potato for 15+ years. I've lost over 90 pounds and have turned my life around. I look forward to the challenge.

Hi Kathy- and welcome.. Do some searching under the tri forum for threads by me. I'll be doing my 3rd Ironman Arizona next year. Last year I had weather issues and ended up with a DNF. A first ever for me, and it stung worse than anything.
Anyway, I tend to post a lot more during my heavy build periods about what I'm going through. So go back in the archives and check it out.
Oh and BTW- I'm NOT a small girl. In fact I look NOTHING like an Ironman.
Again, welcome. I think you will find we are a welcoming bunch here. Post away. We all love to hear about each others trials and tribulations. AKA "when life gets in the way of training". Also lots of knowledge here, both technical and motherly. And yeah, sometimes we need that motherly thunk upside the head to remind us to SLOW DOWN. Esp. when we are sick/injured.
Train hard, train safe!

Oh- if you don't mind salty language (the song my friend chose is a bit rough) I have a video my friend made of my first Ironman on you tube. Just go to You tube and search "Denise Ironman Arizona". It should come up. He mashed a bunch of different Ironman clips together. It's really good- though the song is really not one I would have used- so I apologize in advance.
Ciao!

HI KATHY! Yes, it's me... Karen. I frequent this site too.

Ladies, listen up... Kathy here is amazing! She totally rocks. This lady has 5 kids and she lost 100 pounds! And she is a training machine! Not to mentions how sweet and wonderfully supportive she is to others.

Ok, I'll stop all of that. I know you "see" me enough on Beginner Triathlete. :D

I'm not so much of a stud (yet) to do full Ironman. But, I am really hoping to do a 1/2 Ironman this summer. I had planned 100% on doing this . . . and then somehow I got roped into taking 2 college classes next semester for work--and that's on top of work, not part of work.

I really, really, really still want to do the 1/2. It's just a matter of figuring out a good training schedule. I have a feeling it's going to involve the 4 AM wake-up call.

WOW! KathyG's here! O_O

I'll just say good luck! And that I am MAYBE considering doing the Gold Coast Half IM in 2009 - Maybe.

Welcome, Kathy!
I was planning to do my 2nd IM next year, but I don't know if I'm mentally ready. That was the most difficult part of the last one- and I don't know if I'm there yet. If not in '08, for sure in '09.

Congrats on the weight loss, the 5 kids  , and signing up for your IM! Lots of things to celebrate on your end!

It is funny but a bike crash helped me realize I was ready and wanted this. I kept thinking when I get faster I'll do an IM. Training for 112 miles or 20 mile run when you are faster, training time is less. At 46 I'm still improving not sure how much longer that will occur but still hopeful.

My June bike crash made me realize in a split second my life could change and perhaps I could never do an Ironman. For me it is about the experience and challenge. I'm not in it to try and Kona qualify or win or anything.

My kids are okay with me training, my husband is supportive, I already train 10-12 hours on build weeks, so I decided to take the plunge and sign up.

Yep it is me KathyG from Beginner Triathlete..thought I needed a new name...what do you think?
