Everyone here has inspired me to jump into the tri world!!
I have decided I am going to start doing tri's- the only thing I don't do is swim. I will do a few sprints for fun, but my goal this year is oly's and a HIM late in the season of '08. (I know I already have the endurance to do the bike/run portion of an Oly, I just need to add in the swim)
I love the bike, I really like doing crits and i really love time trialing- but I love, even more, anything endurance based- not sure why I hadn't thought of Tri's before this. I am so happy to go and do something for hours on end, and I love doing bricks with biking/running.
Anyone out there have any links to good training plans to start off with? I want to try to do some of it myself before I go out there spending money on a coach.
Oh I also still plan on doing crits all next year, so I am somehow going to incorporate everything and be one very busy little girl here!

Yay- you're joining us!!!!! :D
Sounds like you have some great goals for next year. After your first one, you'll be hooked for sure. If you like TT'ing, you'll love tris. Do you already have some races picked out for next year? What HIM are you planning on doing?
Here are some good sites. I love the Trifuel training plans. I did the 36 week IM program with great success. I have also done the HIM program. The half program was good, but there were never any brick runs longer than 15 min, so I'd certainly do many bricks of an hour or so.

I've decided the same thing! Another link you can try is Beginner Triathlete (http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/).
I'm going to start some private swim lessons in January...

I think it's great to see more women jumping in.
I am almost ready to settle on my 08 plan. I am waiting for really one more set of races to get published since they are close to me. Unfortunately they are taking their sweet time.
anyway, as of now, I've picked out that my season will open early april with a 1/2 marathon (I have not done one before but I have to prove to myself I can before contemplating the HIM). As of now I am planning around Oly distances for 08.
those are good sites mentioned. good luck with finding the plan that will work for you and keep talking with this little corner of the board. I am glad everyone's encouraged me to get started...

don't forget www.beginnertriathlete.com (http://beginnertriathlete.com/default.asp). There's a great training log there to use while you track your progress.
Good luck witih learning how to swim. Remember swimming is mostly technique so work on learning proper technique.
I don't do tri's (and its doubtful I would ever, don't swim well and don't like to run at all) so I may not know what I'm talking about.... but we see few of our team members that are serious about triathalon after the first month or two of racing in the spring. Usually they come out for the TT's, but we don't see them for many road races/crits. I think that tri training may not totally be compatible with race season training/racing? Anyone do both?

2nd, 3rd, or 4th beginner triathlete. They have good plans for free and there are also other plans you can obtain for a cost. The forum has tons of information!

I too use beginnertriathlete.com. The training log is very easy to use, and there are tons of articles by people at every level of experience.
A random swim tidbit: apparently, you should balance out all that freestyle swimming with some backstroke, so your muscles develop evenly on the front & back, which will prevent injury to your rotator cuff. I learned that today from my swim coach (a.k.a. my sister).

Thank you everyone for your input! I am going to look at all the sites in the next few days.
Eden, I am a road race and I love it but I also love endurance sports, so I am going to try to do both. But on the road aspect, I am doing all of the Florida Point Series races this year, with a focus on the time trials(want to be in the top 3 at states at the end of the year for cat 4). And I am going to do all the crits and road races for the florida points series so I can get the experience and get stronger and be competitive.
I am only planning on doing a couple tris, but a lot of road bike events. But I want to do the tri's the best I can, so that means training- plus I feel that the cross training will be good for me on the bike:-)
