Going up a steep hill, chain comes off, get caught between the gear and the wheel, chain doesn't move, pedales don't move. Fall to side of road down rocky slope orrrr fall on the road? I choose the road. For some reason I panicked and couldn't unclip. It was all very slow it seemed. Once I hit my main concern was getting out of the road in case a car came. I hit my arm on a rock when I went down and almost instantly my arm went numb! That was way wierd! And I kinda wanted to cry. See when I first started out today I had a car full of teenage boys drive by me really close and honk to scare the cr*p out of my. I did yell as*h*les at them. then my stupid not even two year candie pedal is not working right and doesn't let me clip in unless I get off my bike and move it to a certain position. So when my chain came off and I fell I was almost at my witts end you know? And I ride to help with stress?
Now my arm is really sore as well as my neck and hip. I will probabaly feel it more tomorrow.
I had a better ride on my scooter to farmers market later in the afternoon. I also treated myself to "green "Dragon" tea drink. It's Iced green tea, honey, cream de mint and soy milk. So I am feeling a little less wounded now. But my body still hurts.

Ouch! Sounds like a painful crash, Brandi. So sorry! Hope you'll be good as new really quickly...
And a pox on the boys who yelled at you! That can really spoil an otherwise-lovely ride. :(

P.S. That "Green Dragon" sounds yummy! Glad you treated yourself after all you went through! :p

At the risk of some language de je vu...
Ouch!
I have only fallen into the road once - and I remember the panic of knowing I had to get out of the path of cars but not having my body obey!
Wishing you quick healing...
I just showed my daughter your post because I thought she would like the sound of your "green dragon" but neither of us know what cream de mint is - can anyone explain what it is or offer an Antipodean alternative?

It's a sort of mellow mint-flavored liqueur. I used to love it when I was a little kid. They'd put it in mint ice cream parfaits, just a tablespoon or so.

Oh Brandi- I'm glad you're OK! I'm sure the soothing taste of the green tea made you feel all better- at least on the inside. Shame on those nasty boys- I hope their mommy hides the keys to "her" car.
I've had a couple of slow mo crashes (but on my mtn bike- my one road crash was so fast I didn't know what hit me until I was looking up at the sky  ).
Hope you're not too sore today. Take it easy!!;)

Brandi, I hope your day improved. How are you feeling today? Slo-mo crashes...this year I had several and I think I bruised and scraped up more on them... Hope your body isn't too sore today...

Ugh, I've had those days.
I feel for ya! I hope you feel better soon.
It must be something about a Monday. I went out for a 14 mile ride yesterday morning, and halfway through, my seat bolt that adjusts the up and down and back and forth on my ancient Brooks came loose and I had to ride all the way back standing up. It sucks when you are out there and stuff like that happens. I totally get the near-tears feeling thing.

Yes, but the kind they use is non alcoholic. I believe it is one of those italian flavored syrups.

I am doing better today then i thought I would. The only really sore part in the palm of my hand. I haven't really poked around where the rock hit my arm cause when I did that yesterday it almost brought me to my knee's. So I would rather not touch it!
I think the green tea really does have healing properties!:p

Hey Brandi, Hope you are feeling better. I thought drivers were more considerate up there in SLO. I guess some kids aren't.

No matter what your experience is, we all do the slow motion fall to the side. OUCH.
I hope your bruise and pain goes away quick.
I've done the slow-mo fall to the side. I was laughing hysterically though. WHO ME?? WHAZ'UP? NO CAN'T BE? OH LIKE YES!
Anyway, its Tuesday and hope today is much better day.

Ouch! Glad it wasn't worse. I had three "lock-ups" on the Hilly Hundred...so fall, but frustrating to the riders behind me!
Turns out, I had bent my small chain ring:eek:
