View Full Version : Winter gloves for small hands (short fingers!)

Hi....I'm new to the TE forums. Have just gotten back into cycling after a ten-year hiatus. Mostly road, but a little mountain biking, too. I'm determined to keep riding through the winter. I've got pretty much everything I need to stay toasty (I hope!) except a pair of decent full-fingered gloves that (truly) fit my small hands. My fingers are on the short side, so every pair I've tried on so far has too much material at the fingertips and/or is ridiculously clunky. I'm in Virginia so I don't need gloves that can handle Arctic chill, but I DO ride at dawn and dusk and sometimes in the mountains, so there will be days when I'll need gloves that seriously block wind and cold. Suggestions for a glove that might work for me?............Thanks.
Nothing I dislike more than wearing my ski gloves. I HATE the bulk! I'm hoping I can wear my new winter bike gloves on the slopes at least some of the time -- I bought some from REI, they were around $30, and delightfully windproof! TIGHT fitting, so that my crotchety hands really don't appreciate the putting on process, but they're comfy once they're on, and wind didn't bug me one bit! I'm guessing short fingers won't be a problem -- mine aren't long (I know this cuz both kids have long fingers, much longer than mine!), and daughter left my nails just a bit on the long side when last she did them. There's barely room for the nails.

I actually have large hands, but my fingers are disproportionately short so I know exactly what you're talking about with the floppy fingertips.
I just bought a pair of the Gore Vulcano (http://www.teamestrogen.com/products.asp?pID=28670) gloves and they don't give me floppy fingertips. Maybe these in a small size will work for you?

Thanks for replying so quickly! I'll look into all of the gloves you've suggested...........I wonder if it's worthwhile to take a look at good kids' gloves for outdoor sports like skiing and skating? They might have shorter finger pockets than adult gloves, but still give me the width/girth I need? (AND warmth! My fingers seem to freeze in a nanosecond.....)

I bought those same gloves at REI recently, but haven't had the cause to try them out yet. Though I might get a shot at them in the morning.
BTW I have short stubby fingers so I know exactly what you are talking about.

I just bought the Gore Vulcano gloves. My hands are small over all and the x-small fit perfectly. Fortunately the weather has not been cold enough to try them out yet.
It's the tips of my fingers that get so cold. I hope these gloves work out. I have Specialized full finger gloves which worked great, but still did not do the job for my finger tips.

Based on feedback to my question, I've just ordered the Gore Vulcano gloves from TE. While I was at it, I got the SmartWool liner gloves and the Ibex Meru hat. Winter, here I come!...........Thanks again for the suggestions---much appreciated!
