Not long ago I got my work into a gallery in Memphis, TN. Well today I got word that my work was chosen by the art director for a movie that's being filmed in midtown Memphis. She wants to use 1, maybe 2, paintings in a scene(s). The movie Nothing But the Truth stars Alan Alda, Matt Dillion, Kate Beckensale, and David Schwimmer among others.

I am so proud of Kevin of Lulalyn Gallery for getting much deserved recognition in the art world and I hope this puts his gallery on the map! He recently was asked to decorate the lobby of the famous Brinkley Plaza in downtown Memphis and I think that's how he was approached by the art director. He chose to display my work and sent me his photo of the lobby. Sorry that the lighting is not the best.

That is wonderful news! I clicked on your link to see your work, since I couldn't see it very well in the photo here... and it is stunning! Especially the top 2 works on your "recent works" page-- Wow! I kept trying to lean in to my computer to see it closer... So powerful and evocative...really made me want to see them in person & full size. Wasn't surprised to see that they were sold!

Congratulations!!!

Wow - that is VERY cool! And I LOVE your paintings - I checked out your website. Where and when did you live on the Gulf Islands?

Thank you everyone for your kindness. It's days like today that makes it worthwhile working in solitude. I feel very, very fortunate to have the opportunity to make, and leave, an impression through my art.

As for the Canadian gulf islands, I lived on Texada Island, off Vancouver Island, B.C.

Hey I checked out your gallery. Beautiful colors, interesting compositions. Thanks for sharing. It's nice to know that some of us aren't just bicyclists. That didn't come out right. It's nice to know about other cool things that TE gals do!!

How do you sell you art? In galleries? Do you just take it to the gallery and ask if you can show there?
I should get back into some kind of art.

i felt jaded for a while, like I had lost the freshness of vision that new artists have. It may be coming back.

Beautiful paintings! I especially love the colors in "Elysium". Congrats on the movie...how exciting!!

I agree with Mimi...it's exciting to see what else drives us besides cycling.

That's really great! From here I will zoom to your website to see more.

Now, a couple questions that Aunt Latelate just has to ask (DH is a painter with a gallery in NY, and oh, the things we have learned the hard way....)

Will your work be insured during transport and use? By whom? Will skilled art handlers be moving/hanging your work? Will you be paid/credited? How? This is fun, and a great opportunity for your work to be seen, just make sure that you are not taken advantage of in the process. Hopefully your gallery director is getting these questions answered, but make sure!;)

Aunt Latelate, thanks for offering words of wisdom. Yes, my gallery guy is on top of things and has taken care of the issues at hand. I know what you mean about the handling of art and insuring the paintings. I had a gallery not long ago and I handled regional artists' work as well. I truly enjoyed working with them and having the openings. Unfortunately, our town was hit by a really, really bad storm with a tornado and damaging hail that lasted 45 minutes!  My building was badly damaged and, as a result, I vacated it and began working from home.

Zen, I think you should break out the canvas and brushes and just allow your inner voice to coax your creativity.

Oxysback , Elysium is one of my favorite paintings and that particular painting has a neat story behind it. Yellow is my favorite color and I wanted to capture a loose interpretation of what my heaven would be. I had finished the painting but I still felt a little unsettled about it. One day the Chicago art critic, Andrew Patner, came by and viewed it. "You ARE finished with it, you know. I like your work. You create thinking man's art." I was so stunned. My jaw just hit the floor.

Elk, it's not often I run across an artist that works in textiles. Your work is fabulous! Have you ever created soft sculptures?

Brandi, thank you. I still can't get over the sand sculpture you created.

Mr. Silver, did you live in east Memphis? I enjoy the Germantown/Collierville area.

Makbike and Mimitabby, thank you both and yes, it's interesting to see what other things TE'ers do.

Sundial,

Do you know Debora Gordon? I don't think she is active now as she has MS and is drawing disability, it having hit her rather hard.

No, I don't know her. It's a shame she has MS. :(
