While I can't ride my bike, I'm taking a collage class at the local art center, and playing with photoshop. I feel a little bold calling it art, but hey, I can be a beginner at art, just as well as on my bike, right?

Here's what I did this afternoon:

This collage class- is it all photoshop? Are you making collages by using multiple layers?

I don't have much experience with layers, i should fool around with that sometime.

By the way, I'd call that art. Art should make you think, and it does.
Good job.

I like that! I'm not the least bit artistic so I'm jealous of those who are.

Something like that would make a wonderful personalized gift for a cyclist. Imagine if you did a collage of that person and put in quotes or their school or something symbolic. Might be a new career!

I think your bike art is VERY cool!

I'd buy something like that if it were personalized.

Zen - The background layers are made from traditional collage techniques-- painting papers, and then cutting, tearing, and layering them. I scanned the backgrounds & then I used photoshop to alter photos, and then layer them on top of the collage backgrounds. The collage part I learned in class. I started doing the photoshop on my own, because the phototransfer techniques that I learned weren't working very well for me.

Teigyr - I started learning collage, because I wanted to paint, and didn't know how to draw. (And wasn't patient enough to take the time to learn...) I'm learning to think of art as something you make, just like a bike is something you ride. There's a big wide range of skills, and it's a lot of fun if you just jump in where you are.

Tri Girl - That's just lovely to hear. I felt really nervous posting this, and almost deleted it at least twice!

I see these as covers for journals or logbooks.

These are way cool and definitely art! It is reminiscent of a friend of ours that does collage art and sells it for like $500.

wow. I am telling you, you might have a market in this :D And when you do, you will let me know? I'd get one. I think you are good!

And re the art thing, even to not draw and paint, you still have to have a sense of style. I am lacking in that too :o
