Me, too, it's weird, every time I look at her, she's going a different direction. If I watch out of the corner of my eye while reading the words, I can see her change. If I stare at her, no matter which direction she's now going she never changes direction.
Then I get sick to my stomach and have to stop!
I think the site said that most people see her counterclockwise, but the few responses here seem to be leaning towards clockwise. :cool: :rolleyes:

I am not half brained after all, okay, well, it was actually my husband who figured that out, but he isn't in the room to get credit for it right now :cool:

I turn my head to the right.
I turn my head to the left.
I look at the moving foot on the right side of the picture (peripherally?), as my DH recommended.
Always clockwise.

p.s. And I'm with OakLeaf. I just took a Myers-Briggs test for a class I'm taking (will get the results on Friday), and all my answers about my own perception about me says "left-brained".
I guess I don't even know myself????

Now that was weird.

After reading some of your other responses (and going out, teaching Pilates and having dessert ;) ) I looked at it again. Clockwise. Then, I read the text on the page and really focused on thinking about what the text was saying. Counterclockwise. But when I went back to looking at her, she switched directions on me again.

I have a feeling it's more about which side of the brain is predominating at the moment you're looking at the image, not which side predominates generally. Just the fact of it being an image - and having movement - and being a dancer on top of that - maybe is going to bias the test toward the right brain? This just suggested itself to me when I had a similar experience to LTBC's.

Ditto! I am a software engineer, for goodness sakes. I am the "left brained" person in my very creative family of actors and artists.

Or maybe not so much anymore....clockwise completely and all the way, with both eyes, one eye, cross eyed, look away and back, I can't imagine seeing her going the counterclockwise.

It is weird. When I first looked at her she was going clockwise. Then while I was reading the text, I could see out of the corner of my eyes that she was going counter clockwise.

After a couple of minutes it was making me dizzy...clockwise, counter, clockwise, counter.

Okay, I had my mom and step-dad both try this. They were both able to get her to go both ways, by focusing on her legs, not on her head. I tried it, and it worked! She still mostly goes clockwise for me, but sometimes counterclockwise. I also had my DH do it, and he saw her going clockwise on my computer at the same time I saw her going counterclockwise, so it's definitely a brain thing and not a program that randomly changes direction, as I was beginning to think (my conspiracy theory) last night! :D

I am not sure if it really measures left- and right-brainedness, as my DH is the most left-brained person I know (logical, analytical, all that), and yet he sees her going in the right-brained direction. But it definitely measures some sort of perception something-or-another. How's that for a technical explanation!? :rolleyes:

Watch it for a good minute or so, and repeat to yourself , "the shoulder is going to the right/left, shoulder to the right/left..." And see if after awhile it doesn't start to go to the left. You can almost see it "reboot"...

That's your brain at work, though -- she's really not changing direction! My DH and I watched her on my computer simultaneously, and he saw her going clockwise, and I saw her going counterclockwise, so she is not actually changing direction -- your brain is just changing how you view her! I don't know how to explain it, but I did take a Sensation and Perception class in Psych grad school many years ago, and this was the kind of stuff we learned about -- fascinating!

I agree. I would say I'm a very logical math+science problem-solving type, but she was revolving merrily clockwise no matter how long I stared at her. Then I read the text in an ad underneath - and swish, she was revolving the other way. Looked at her - swish, clockwise again. I turned off the music I was listening to and read the ad again - counterclockwise. Music back on, looked at her - within three seconds she was revolving clockwise.

Fascinating. I do think that a dancer biases to right brain perception. If it was a formula or a word you had to read or understand I suspect there would be more left brain perception.

after reading the responses here.....my conclusion.....this little test is not valid! ;) We cyclists have trained ourselves to be very aware of our surroundings! So there! :rolleyes:
