:) :D

Spring has sprung in Western Australia (shh..keep the rain away) and I know this because:

1-The White Herons are back
2-The pea gravel is no longer mushy
3-It's light or getting light at 5:30am
4-It's hot-ish at 9am
5-Our clothing dries very quickly on our washing line
6-Our hot water is hot right away as is the cold water
7-The little lizards are often seen sunning themselves on the track or the bike paths

Ahhh..finally..spring..

Aww, how sweet!

While here the nights get longer, the trees are beginning to shed their carnival coloured leaves, the geese are beginning to fly south, and I have a strong desire to cuddle in a blanket and sip soup every evening.

Hugs and butterflies,

Yeah, well there won't be any snuggling by the fire quite yet. It's supposed to be sunny and up to 18 today. I did wake up to frost yesterday morning though. I guess the cold is inevitable.

Enjoy your springtime CC. My DSD says springtime in Cairns is the rainy season.

LOL, #7, CC!!!

We aren't quite there yet with the tap water, but we have got westerlies... the Spring equinox brings them every time.
And as a result the washing can be hung out in the eveing and be dry in the morning...

One of our "signs of spring" this year is our orphanage... a summer drought followed by a winter drought has meant many of our animals have died. We have been able to rescue two calves this year, with several attempted but unsuccessful rescues.
So Isis and Little Black are living on our tennis court (erected by previous owners and the fencing is ideal for animal babies - the area is grass, not tennis surfacing) have joined the lamb, Fat Sam.

We have Highland cattle, so the calves dotted around the farm look like overgrown teddy bears, and the lambs are starting to feel so good when they play they sound like a herd of horses charging the house...

Oh... and I have daffodils and narcissus. I bought the bulbs cheap in August as it was waaaaay past planting time. But I planted anyways and figured they'd have flowers next year. But instead I have spring flowers all over the place!!! For someone who is NOT a gardener this is very exciting!

Ahhh... spring is so great!
I wish we weren't getting ready for winter, but we have to go through the darkness and cold to truly enjoy the wonderfulness that is SPRING.

I need to just move to the equator where it's the same temp. yearlong and the hours of the day remain constant. My sister just moved to St. Croix- wonder if I can live in a tent out back...

One more sign from yesterday-The flies are back...It's time to keep above fly speed when mtn biking...Can't wait for the march flies

RR-sorry to hear about your farm animals not making it through the drought. I'm sure there are many farmers on this side of the ditch who understand as well.

Hopefully spring will arrive in Auckland MNZ..!!!

Road Raven - remember to bring your thermals this weekend !

Been watching the weather... packing tonight and leaving tomorrow morning... plenty of warm stuff you reckon?

We have a bach by the beach to stay in, boys were hoping to swimming and kayaking - they'll be bringing wetsuits - I wonder if it will be warm enough!?!?

Hopefully see you in a few days... :)

Yeah... its been a few years since we have lost this many animals due to a drought - I know how lucky we are though compared to some of the farmers across your way who are faced with years of drought sometimes - not just months.

Portland can be beautiful in summer....before August when everyting dries out and dies:p

Our season is late spring...I think....that's the season of our glory...unless you like foggy cold damp, a fire and a good book..then winter is your time...

highland cattle are so pretty. I used to have ordinary ole beef cattle, but I love how the HC have more furry bodies. Jenn ;)

All my singlets have been bought to the top of my draws and all my coats jackets and "thicker" t-shirts relegated to the back.

It's DAMN hot today! I wish I was in the pool (but I'm still contagious so can't leave the house)
