Ok I thought I was in pretty good shape but the last couple of days have told me otherwise.
Wednesday I walked down to pick my kids up from school and forgot that they had been to the Pumpkin farm so the car might have been a better choice. LOL I had to walk and carry two rather large pumpkins home.
Thursday a friend calls to say she has the day off and would I like to go for a walk out on a trail in the forest. Well I know this friend is pretty fit so its not going to be any dawdle. 2.5 hours later after setting a cracking pace we finish.
Friday........my whole body seems to hurt. Legs, bum I guess from the walk and arms from those bl**dy pumpkins.
I have never felt this sore from riding my bike even after a century or more.
LOL another reason why I love my bike.:D
Good cross-training!
See, when your muscles see you headed for the bike they yawn and say "ho-hum, here we go again" but you surprised 'em, dincha!

Hey, TH, you can come help me pack. It'll be good training for your packing.
Of course, I'll be long gone when it's your turn.

I guess the reason why Im so shocked at just how sore I am is because I do cross train. I have a rowing machine which I use about three times a week and I walk the kids to and from school most days and although I can feel the rowing workout the next day its nothing like this. Imagine woman who nearly has to be tipped out of her chair to get up. Im still blaming it on the pumpkins.:D
As soon as I read this I thought of the Farmers Walk (http://www.davedraper.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/PmWiki/FarmersWalk)

Thanks for the link. I love the part about holding onto your weights until they fall from your hands. Less messy than dropping pumpkins......I was tempted though.
Hee hee now after all the pain they have caused me I still have to carve the buggers. I think I will be sick of pumpkins pretty soon....well maybe not for pie.:D

Before I started biking, I used to walk briskly 3 miles about 5 times a week.
Once I started biking, I stopped my long walks.
Recently, I did my walk with my daughters when they were visiting- I was REALLY SORE the next day. Then I walkd again a few days later, and was not so sore the next day.
Fitness walking uses some muscles we don't use much when biking. :o
I'm going to try to do my 3 mile walk at least every other week now, so I don't lose it all again.
