GRRRR!!!! Frustration... REALLY UPSET with crapola tonight.
little over an hour ago, one of our young kitty managed to get his mouth hung up on my partners sewing machine. Tried to cut the wire off the sewing machine and rushed him to the vet but my wire cutter couldn't cut off the wire. Kitty was panicking and really tore his mouth to shreds on the heavy wire where he managed to get hooked on it... I ended up doing the no no by extricating him from the wire cause there was no way we could get him to stay quiet on the sewing machine (never remove a knife or foreign object from the victim)...
Well this little mishaps have got me all wound up, my partner may need to get anti-biotic cause she was bitten pretty hard by the kitty and has a good puncture wound. I too have a puncture wound on a finger but its not showing any sign of any infection yet. The emergency vet has determined its not life threatening, his bleeding has slowed considerably and since he had a full meal not long ago, they can't really put him under to operate inside his mouth and stitch back together... So poor guy is staying there for the night.
grrr if its not one thing, its something else. I know the kitten will recover from his mishap, may have paralysis in his right cheek or lip area... I really feel bad for him right now. Just had to vent... My partner is all upset too.
off to drink super strong coffee to calm my nerves. No sleep tonight!!

Cats :D
This coming from someone whose cat ate their dinner tonight...
At least it's not life threatening. A night at the vet's is scary for all concerned but it's temporary.
Am sorry about your partner, hopefully it isn't that bad? It'll be ok, drink the coffee then sleep...
((((to everyone involved))))
Once again, cats.

My husband once got bitten very hard by his beloved Sammi...she was quite frightened of something, can't remember what.
He took himself down to the emergency room to get a tetanus shot. He did not realise that a few days later King County would call asking about it! Apparently the hospital is required to report animal bites  .
Sorry to hear about your kitty :( . I once went on holiday, and the ex-boyfriend was supposed to keep an eye on the babies. He decided to do some sewing, and left a threaded needle out...yes, where Speck could get to it. When I returned from my trip, I noticed that she was not eating. Took her to the vet. They took an e-ray, but couldn't find anything wrong. A couple of days later, still worried, I took her back. This time they took another x-ray, and found the threaded needle stuck in her throat at just the cut-off of where the other x-ray left off. Speck was all right, but had to have surgery to have the needle removed. I was not happy.
That's why he's an ex.

What a wild and scary night for one and all at your house. First, please make sure you and your partner see a doctor for treatment of the bike wounds. If you have not boostered your tetanus you both will need to do that. Cat bites are packed with bacteria and the infection that results can be awful, best to see a doc ASAP. Don't mean to scare you but have been biten several times and it has never been "just a bite."
Now for you buddy - poor guy. His mouth is going to be very sore and he probably won't want to eat. Don't let you buddy go more than 24 hours with eating or he could develope liver problems! The vet will probably send you home with a food which can be fed via syringe if not ask about some A/D. Make sure you ask the vet for pain medication and I'm sure antibiotics will be prescribed as well.
Hang in there it will get better!

What a frightening experience!! I know how this sort of thing feels, and it's really nerve wracking! I hope you got a bit of sleep and that kitty has had her repair work done now and is recovering nicely.
Please do get antibiotics for your cat bites - even the ones that don't "look infected". It's pretty much a necessity as their teeth have a lot of bacteria on them that we just can't tolerate.
You will all get well. One day this will be a story you tell....
Like the one I tell of how my 'Cuda dog got a stick through his tongue. Injury turned out to be not as serious, but he did become a total momma's boy after the event. And I think he kind of has an elvis streak - he really wanted to keep taking pills after his pain medication was finished. ;)
Sending lots of butterflies of healing, calm and love.
Hugs,
~T~

Many healing vibes are coming your way. Poor scared kitty and poor peoples. Do take care of the bites, cat bites can be very bad if not treated. I hope your baby heals quickly.

Thank you everyone. Well the poor boy stayed an extra day at the hospital. Yesterday he started to get a fever, an indication of infection. So he stayed and they gave him intravenous anti-biotics. We took an aggresive stance on the infection because we didn't want to take a chance seeing how badly his mouth was lacerated. yes they stitched him up as best they could. Yesterday, when we visited him, one side of his face was all puffed up, like a tennis ball. Anti-inflamatory, pain med, anti-biotic... poor thing was seriously medicated. Still talkative though.
We picked him up today around lunch time and he seemed to be in no worse shape. He did enamour the staff at the clinic. they thought he was cute and a handful. bit of an understatement really. When we came home he was EYEING the sewing machine. good grief.
He is going back to our regular vet on Tuesday for a follow up.
Well this boy has used up three of his young lives already. Month and half ago he was in ICU for two days with his sister Unknown viral infection and dangerously high fever. Both their bodies were iced down to cool them down to safe body temperature.
Well I won't be buying a new bike this year. That's okay. Little kitty's life is more important to us.
when I have a chance I wil post his cute picture.
Oh. both my partner and I have had tetinus shots and its still current. So thank you for the reminder.

Smilingcat - as a fur parent who has kitties that have "helped" me sew, I feel your pain. Around here we joke about making boat payments for our vets. I think I'm buying a wing in the new hospital my vet is currently building. Not too long ago some friends were over and I pointed out the armoir that wasn't in my livingroom storing the TV, satelite dish box, and various DVD's etc. They didn't get it... Vet bills took priority over furniture. The clutter will just have to do for a while longer.
Hope your silly boy gets better soon, and stays AWAY from the sewing machine!! Do you have some nice sparkly trim to chase?? :D

Holy cow!! Poor poor kitty!!!! And still eyeing the sewing machine to boot. Kittens are fearless! And quite insane. Speedy recovery to all of you - good news on the tetanus, too. The only other thing they told me (dog bite) is to make sure you keep cleaning/disinfecting the wound. But, they've probably healed up a lot by now since this actually happened a week ago.

I'm just now seeing this because we were at the ER vet and regular vet ourselves. Our pets have had a time the last few days. I hope your cat is getting better and gives up sewing!
My neighbor was remarking tonight that the reason he is still driving a 10 year old car and a 10 year old truck is because of his former pet bills.

Thank you all, and an update.
Tommytom went for a check up on Tuesday. I spoke to the vet before the procedure in detail of what had happened, what the emergency clinic did, medication, complication... We were having this conversation in the waiting area and as soon as I said about kitty getting tangled up in the sewing machine, the whole room went quiet. Well everyone else can feel better that their babies are in lot better shape than mine. And for the most part it was...
Well after the procedure, our vet told us that Tommy has three new stiches in his mouth, but now he can eat wet food and not just the dry. He was given more pain killers, enough for 5 more days, more anti-biotics. and an instruction not to attack the sewing machine or the radio antenna.
The way he is acting, you wouldn't know anything about his trauma. Running, climbing, chasing, being chased... A cats life. He did figure out about the anti-biotic pills and he just seems to disappear... KIDS
And yes no new bike, and lots other missing things. We don't have cable nor satellite TV. NO NEW TV EITHER... The money we save goes to the vets. And yes he has a brand new building. I swear, we have been at the vet every week since May/June. maybe two weeks when we didn't go. We are on first name basis with all the vets, techs, receptionists... and animal rescue group. Tommytom and his sister Twiggy were fosters with us. But after all the delays, they are our babies now... so we are up to seven cats and two dawgs.
Once again, a happy family.

Thanks for the update and glad Tommytom is doing better. It's amazing what we do for our critters, isn't it? I'm starting a new job today at Petco and I think what I'm most excited about is the discount I get. With 4 dogs, 4 cats, and a bird a discount at a pet supply store is a GOOD thing. LOL!
Give Tommy a scritch for me.

So glad the kitty is doing okay... Please check into pet health insurance! For about $30 per month, you can get a plan that will reimburse for a pretty large share of those emergency visits!

The money we save goes to the vets. And yes he has a brand new building.
A couple of years ago, after a particularly bad year when all three of my dogs had major health issues--cruciate ligament surgery, two cancer surgeries, and kidney disease--I asked my vet if he was enjoying the new boat I had bought for him. He didn't think it was funny.
