I finally got my century!! I'm not real proud of how long it took but at least I did it. With my health issues lately I wasn't even sure I should attempt it. But I lined up at the start and gave it a go. At the 25 mile mark I was about ready to call it quits. I just wasn't feeling well. But my pride wouldn't let me quit that early ...thought I should at least try to make it to the half way point. So I pressed on. My body finally got used to the discomfort and let me continue to ride. At the 50 mile mark I decided to just keep going as long as I could. With 20 miles left I knew there was no way I was stopping. The course officially closed at 5pm and I rolled across the line about 2 or 3 minutes after 5:00. But they hadn't packed up and left yet so I got a cheer as I crossed the line. Much slower than I wanted but at least I did it! Felt good after the ride but then Sunday morning I awoke with a cold. Have been feeling pretty cruddy since. At least I can check it off of my list of goals for the year.

WAY TO GO!!!

CONGRATULATIONS! It's so hard to ride a bike rally, and be out there alone finishing up your miles. I'm pretty slow, and when I do the longer routes, the crowds thin out and I find myself out there riding alone. That's mentally tough.
After 3 years of riding... I finally did my first 100 miles on 8-22-07. I did it with my cycling club. Talk about slow. We started out good and had about a 16 mph average. But after our 2-hour lunch (SLOW SERVICE!) it dropped to a 14 mph average. We started at 8:00 AM and finished at 6:45 PM. LONG DAY!
I don't know about you, but I loved the long distance. It was great!

Congrats!! I was wondering if you were going to be well enough to do the ride. Doing that distance is a feat in its self but to not give up takes a lot of perserverance. Way to go!! Welcome to the club. :D

Congrats, great job! Now that you've done one, I'll bet the next one won't be so daunting (this from someone who only recently did her first century also...;) ;) )

Huzah! Huzzah!!!
A friend of mine did his first century with me Sunday. He's been riding for y'ars and just never had the time to be in shape *and* have the weather ortiming work. It didn't really work this time, either - 20 mph winds and gusts to 30 - but we had BIG GUYS in the club pulling us along for the first two loops (70 miles)... yea, we took our turns too but we couldn't have done it on our own... and they could have left us in the prairie debris had they wanted to. We eked out that last 30 by doing 2 15 mile loops instead of 1 x 30...
He says today: Now I know how to do a hundred miles: you keep riding.

Congratulations on a job well done. Just so you know you have now been officially biten by the Century Bug. Enjoy the moment and start thinking about your next one.
WAY TO GO!!!! The wind was terrible Saturday, so that didn't help you much as far as your time goes. You Rock Girl!!!!

Congratulations!
I did my first two weekends ago.
It was great. I loved it.
But since then I have been on no rides, and getting frustrated!
good for you... it's a great milestone.

Thanks everyone! You've made me feel good about my mediocre performance. Yep, I'm pretty sure I've been bitten by the bug...but at least now I've proved to myself that I can do it. Thanks K. DDH, yes you know all about the wind that day! Congrats on your ride too.

Wow! Not only did you do your first century, but you did it not feeling 100%. You should be extremely proud no matter the speed. Just a couple of minutes past the time limit? That's nothing... Way to go!!! :D
