Looking for a school to go to next year? I grew up in Michigan and spent a good deal of time searching for a good school and cycling mix. Fort Collins, Colorado is now my home, I love it, much more laid back and affordable than Boulder. Plus, many would argue that we have better trails and more roads to ride on. That said, I ride for a trade team based in Boulder, it's a cool town.

As a fellow collegiate racer, I have to agree- Ft. Collins is a very impressive team... definitely check it out if you are serious about racing.

Where in MI did you grow up? :)

on a side note- mostly re: funding, do you guys rely entirely on sponsorships, school-funding, fundraising as a team, or some combination thereof? just blatant curiosity ;)

i'm always interested in hearing how other schools' teams are run... are the students in charge, or do you have faculty guidance as well?

at UM we're not terribly competitive. a good number of riders... in fact, the vast majority, have never raced before. for some (me last year!) it's their first time on an actual road bike or mtn trail.

we're making attempts at getting more organized... especially recruiting more women; so far there's one off-roadie, 4 roadies, and one that does both (me) :p

Right now we have one of the best teams in the country and we are working very hard to keep it that way. Don't be fooled though, four years ago we could hardly get 10 people to come to a meeting. I wish CSU had a cycling team 20-something years ago when I was a student. We used to do laps around the Oval for fun.
