Oh lord, I *knew* it was gonna happen. It was like leaving that taco in the car with my dog while I went potty. Absolutely inevitable that my little Surly come home with me. I left the shop with that "can't even think straight" knot in my gut. The kind of knot little kids get Christmas Eve, the same knot I had all day at work the day I bought Pony. I knew it was meant to be!

So I hopped online, confirmed that the running tally of finances I had in my head matched what the bank had *heh*heh* and called my "crack dealer" this morning. Told him I needed that frame and I was on my way.

Goodness, it is beautiful. Oh, right I guess I should mention that it's a Surly 1x1 singlespeed frame in white. Best part is, I walked into the shop and Joshua said he had something I'd really be excited about. He wasn't kidding, there dug out of the mythical "back room" was a PINK Ti Kore seatpost in just the right size. W00t! It is soooo hot, and it matches the pink of the Chris King special edition headset I'm getting for Surly and Pony.

Oh I cannot wait to get it put together! I got a sweeeet deal on a set of Avid Single Digit 7 brakes because they have 3 levers. Pony is getting those, because well, I can't give the new bike the better brakes, it would hurt her feelings.

Now I've just gotta decide if I wanna paint her pink or not. The white and pink looks awesome. I might just build up the wheels, and have my brother paint the rims only. Ack! Listen to me blather. I wanna go home right now and just, look at it. Then I wanna make my maiden voyage so I can name it, and stop using gender neutral pronouns. :D

Congrats!!

Have you decided what gear ratio you're going to run? Is there much climbing where you ride? I think for a s/s you have to be geared for the climbs and just suck up not having anything for the downhill.

In the last 24-hours of adrenalin race I did, the woman who took 2nd place solo was on a pink single speeder. Amazing!! I think she did 13 laps (11 miles per lap)! I was on a co-ed 5-person team (4 guys and me). We only 23 laps! Her little pink bike was always rolling!

I've ridden s/s a couple of times. It's not for me. But if you stick with it, I've heard it helps your overall riding. You will learn that momentum is your friend! You can't scrub off speed, drop into a low gear and climb out!

Enjoy your new project and post pictures soon!

That sounds like a beautiful bike! I think I'd leave it white and just do pink accessories like you're already starting with. It sounds gorgeous! One thing about white bikes, though (my Bike Friday is white), boy do they show dirt and grease. I'm forever cleaning it. But pink wouldn't be much better, I'd imagine. My raspberry-colored Aegis is a bit more forgiving!

Enjoy! And post a picture as soon as you can!

*hands smurf a towel to wipe the drool off her new bike!* Congrats hun - the pink N white colour scheme sounds PERFECT for you and Surly! Enjoy her, post some pixs, and tell us her name once she's "baptized"!

Hee hee, yeah, I was drooling. Showed a buddy at work pictures of her on my camera phone. He happens to be Carl Decker's cousin so he's all yeah, well there's a built up Ti singlespeed in my garage. Well uh yeah, who cares? That defeats the entire spirit of the single speed! Your cousin though, that I'd like to look at, and uh, maybe take out for a ride. *smirk*

The poor little white thing though, it rode home on my rack and man it got filthly! Oh well, it's girly without being too girly. I think I like that better, pink is a little too trendy now. Soooo, if you ladies see any pink components, let me know. I'm gonna get myself a Fizik Vitesse with the pink thigh glides for my birthday in January, yay!
