I thought bike season was over for me. We've had weeks on weeks of cold, rainy, frosty and stormy weather. Then today it was clear (only one mother-of-pearl cloud in the sky, whipped up high by the storm) and warm (for us, at least, at 18C). :D Glad I hadn't hung my bike up in the cellar. Even with full gale headwinds on the uphill ride to work it was good being out on the bike. Even with the wind making my eyes tear up and the rising sun shining straight at me so I couldn't see a thing unless I stayed in the shadow of trees. Even with the department secretary phoning me while I was just coming through the main intersection so I had to pull over on the sidewalk for the news that the woman who was supposed to teach my class this morning hadn't showed up and did I know where she was (I didn't, until she called as I reached the bike parking to say she'd been at the room originally scheduled for the class, having forgotten that we'd moved to a bigger room). Even with all that, still it was good to be out on the bike. :p And the day ended well too. Sarahlou, her DH and their doggie came over to our place for dinner and laundry (no laundry machine on the boat). We had meatballs, potatoes and carrots, and (ta-da!) lingonberry sauce from the berries she and I picked on Sunday, AAAAaaand (hipp hurra!) the chantarelles we'd picked fried up in a sour cream gravy (yummmm!). Recipe for that last one: Pick several quarts of chantarelles. Clean them and cut them up into bite-size pieces. Fry in butter until they release their juices. Chill til ready to use. Then when ready: Sautee 1 diced onion, 2 cloves of garlic (also diced) and 1 red chili (de-seeded and diced). Add strained mushrooms and stir-fry for a bit. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add 1 container (about 3 dl) of cream or sour cream plus the mushroom juices. Simmer til rest of dinner menu is ready.

Went for 15.6 miles in my fast AV jersey. I think I set a personal best on this route, averaging 17.7 miles on a hilly ride.
Some punks threw a plastic bottle at DH, didn't hit him. I am going to write letters to the two local papers. I didn't report this one but DH tried to chase them down. I have seen this truck before. :(

rode to work then I rode downtown to attend a fancy luncheon. It was foggy misty the whole way. Getting there was uneventful. and the lunch was so so.
Going home the road was wet and slippery. I heard cars gunning engines as their wheels spun, and i almost lost control of my bike on a wet grating. how scary!
so i took it easy going home....
about 17 miles.

I rode the Ellen Farrant Memorial Bikeway aka Jones Beach bike path which I have been making as my after work ride for about a month now. I wish I thought of this from Spring time as my rides after work were always a route from my house and dealing with traffic from those coming home from work, lights etc. Although I hate to drive to a riding place, I found this to be best for after work.
Although riding the path both ways is only 9.5 miles, I usually ride it twice before the sun is set. Yesterday there was a wicked south west wind, so I only rode it once then rode loops around the park where the path begins to give me 14 miles.
Lack of sunlight is getting earlier and earlier. how sad. :(

18 miles of beautiful riding weather. Unusually warm and sunny for this time of year. I got up rather late and had a later start than usual, trying to get home in time to start lunch for DH. I finished my ride and realized I needed only 12 more miles to break 2000 on my new bike.

I get the record for shortest ride. I met a frequent riding partner a couple of miles from my house and we set out for our usual 30-40 miler. A mile and a half later he broke a spoke in his rear wheel, big. Twang! So I rode back for my car to run him and his bike home. I just wasn't into riding by myself after that. Seven miles. Which was enough for me to justify not doing any cardio after I taught my strength classes yesterday afternoon :p

Actually ... my commute ride is shorter: 8 km. So your ride was both longer and more exciting. :D
