Did anyone else on the forum get a private message from someone named buddha? It came to my Yahoo e-mail account and has absolutely nothing to do with biking. I'm wondering how and why I got it and how I can delete it from my private messages. I'm worried that it might contain some kind of virus.

If it's in your yahoo account, it seems like you should be able to delete it without opening it just like any other email. If it won't delete no matter how you try, you might need a computer geek to help you. I could ask my son...

If you don't want to get email to your yahoo acct from someone getting your address here on TE, click "User CP" up in the blue bar, then scroll down to "Edit Options" and un-check the boxes that allow your email address to be viewed by someone looking at your profile.

I have e-mail notifications set for yahoo and didn't get one from Buddha. Or Jesus or Mohammad.

Is it in your messages here?

nope. I didn't get one either. But in my work email I get every other sort of thing!
BTW- if you get an "e card" from someone you don't know- DONT OPEN IT!!
Someone at work did, and now we ALL get them.

Yeah, it is. It shows under "Welcome, Biker Jo," in the upper right that I have a private message, and that's what I'm afraid to open, or maybe I shouldn't be afraid to open it? I did get the full message in Yahoo.

I got one too. He said " Hi, I'm new here. How's it going".

I told him to kiss off. :D

No seriously, I just deleted it. I think it is spam. I noticed there was a link at the bottom to click on. I hope you didn't!

Click the "Private Messages" link, and it will take you to a list of titles, instead of opening the message in a window.

Click the little check box to the right of the title from Buddha.

Scroll down to the bottom of your list of titles, where it says "Selected Messages and choose "delete".

Click the "Go" button.

That will let you delete the PM without opening it first.

Thanks, Knotted. That did the trick!

Now my question is why did Sandra and I (and probably others) get that message, which probably is spam? Isn't this forum monitored?

Yup, we have mods. They keep an eye on public forum posts and chase down spam posts if you click the alert button on the spammy post.

They don't monitor the private messages, but they will check out activity that comes from a suspiciously spammy source IF they are alerted to it. So if you want, send a PM to Snapdragen and tell her about the spam.

Well it is, but a lot of it is "self monitored" like this.

Hmmmm, just checked the "Members list" up at top and could not find a Buddha

I got a private message from buddha too. Ithought I deleted it, but guess it's still there- I'll delete it again.

Strange! I checked the member list but alas, no Buddha. Could be that he/she works in mysterious ways?

Interesting though. From the subject, I thought was a divine message or something.

I guess we're not included? Maybe this is a sign.

I didn't get anything from Buddha, but a while back I did get this

how are you? Hey if you have a moment, I could REALLY use a woman's perspective on something. (But it doesn’t have anything to do with biking, so no pressure, OK?)

Thanks!
John

needless to say I did NOT reply to this

Oh eden that is CREEPY! Yeah I would hit DELETE on that one... ugh!

Once upon a time over on tri newbies there was a guy trolling for a date. And then his wife caught on... WOW did THAT make for some interesting threads!!

Yes Jo, I got one and was mystified but as it came in as a Registered Member I thought I'd be polite and say Hi - said a little about myself but only as much as I have on my Public bit anyway - and what a great website this is (thinking it was a new contributer who hadn't learned the ropes yet. Finished by suggesting buddha told US something about themself.

Having read your posts I see that was probably a mistake but I did it through TE rather than my own email, so hope it will be OK. I shall delete it (rather late in the day!)

Will let you know if I get repercussions!

Carpe Diem!

I deleted this pm from buddha yesterday and it was back today!

The "ignore sender" idea is a good one. Thanks!

Have any of you who recieved these PM's gotten a hold of a mod about it?

I got a PM from buddha too. Probably some kind of botnet attack. At this point I don't think there's any need to alert the mods... they're already reading this thread right?

No, they don't always read all the threads. Somebody should alert them, seems obvious that Buddha is not legit. I won't alert them though, as I didn't receive any "enlightenment" messages.

A little late to the thread, but I received one too. I reported it immediately to the moderator as it looked like spam to me and they removed buddha from the member list...
