Is anyone else doing the Tour of the Ozarks this weekend? My husband and I are doing the 100 mile route and it would be great to meet you!
If you aren't familiar with it, it's a ride that starts in Rolla, Missouri with 12, 25, 50, and 100 mile routes. Proceeds go to juvenile diabetes. While it is a hilly route (it is the Ozarks, after all :) ), the scenery is awesome, rest stops and volunteers are awesome, and biking is AWESOME!
This will be my DH and my first century. We are looking forward to it with excitement, fear, more excitement.....it's going to be fun!

Lorie, I know you have been working towards this all summer! Best of luck with it. I'm stuck here with Saturday detention kids! Yikes!

Claudia: What a bummer! :( I was hoping that you'd be able to go and we could finally meet in person! I'll definitely post about how it goes. I'm really just worried about the last 20 miles. I've done 80 miles a couple of times, so 100 should be easy, right? :o

BTW We really should get together and ride; Belle and Rolla aren't that far away from each other!!

I'm sitting here in detention, looking at the website and sighing heavily! How was the 100 mile route? No way I would have made that. I seem to only be commuting these days. I will, however, remember this and make sure I'm in next year, even if I only do 25 miles.
Full report on your first century please!

First century was GREAT - at least 80 miles of it! The weather was perfect! I did, however, learn a lesson - don't eat food that you normally don't on a ride! Both DH and I had a ham and cheese sandwich at the halfway point; I got very nauseous and then leg cramps set in. I was totally miserable. Still, it was a great ride!
I think you should have made all those kids ride with you as their detention. Make them work it off!
Next year you have to do it. All of the routes are pretty and the people are so nice!

After re-reading my post, I noticed that I didn't mention that I didn't finish the whole 100 miles. I made it a few miles over 80 and the cramps in my legs got so bad I just couldn't do it. My DH, however, went on ahead (he's so sweet, he was going to go with me and I said NO, NO, NO!!). In all he did 105, while I did a little over 82. I'm still pleased in that I overcame a few of my "nemises" (I can't spell) on this route.
I really hope you'll be able to do this next year and that we can ride together sometime!
