Nice bike aka_kim.
Is that a home made storage solution? I like it. Could do with something like that for my bike.

Thanks MM. Although the rack looks homemade, we got it at Performance about 10 years ago. We actually have 2 more, since we used to have 6 bikes along the garage wall.

hey aka and Mighty,
my husband made racks that look just like those. said he saw them in a catalog somewhere and just copied it in his head and made two of them for two of the bikes we have (and use the most). only cost a fraction of what was advertised, and put a small shelf even with the holders so you can put ur helmet and stuff on that.
they work great....

Exception to the picture Lizzy has a black Brooks Saddle, a carbon seatpost and is Ultegra Triple

I could not post a picture of Faithful because she is an 1987
Rasberry Terry Precision. One of these days I'll learn how to do this camera thing...

I'm happy to showcase my bikes here - I have 3 that I regularly ride - 2 touring bikes (a classic diamond-frame, and a Bike Friday), and 1 road bike (again a Bike Friday).

Peter Mooney (http://www.peter-mooney.com/) custom touring bike - on my very first solo (loaded) tour

Bike Friday Air Glide touring bike - with suitcase trailer attached, all ready to hit the road. And yes, I really did ride this bike across the United States (http://denise2002xc.crazyguyonabike.com) back in the summer of 2002!

Bike Friday Pocket Rocket road bike - used for unencumbered wandering, and my commute to work in the summer months

Ooooowwww Denise,
What color is your Peter Mooney bike? It looks Lavender in the pic. I think that would be the hardest part about having a custom bike made, picking the color.

DeniseGoldberg
11-13-2004, 06:54 AM
My Peter Mooney bike absolutely is a wonderful shade of shiny light purple - lavender is probably a good description.

And you're right - choosing the color was incredibly difficult. Peter does business with a frame painter who has tons of colors available. I spent at least two afternoons at the bike shop pouring over the colors, and when I got close to making a decision he made sure I took the paint chips outside in the sunshine to make the final decision!

My Bike Fridays are custom too, but they have a limited set of colors that they use, so those choices were much easier.

To continue the Massachusetts parade, my Madeleine is known as "Ruby Sojourner". Unfortuanately, I can't attach my photos of my beloved Terry Flora, and mistreated winter rockhopper called "Virtual Reality" http://www.terrybicycles.com/detail.html?c=Bicycles&sc=Touring&item_no=3062

There's a picture of me on my Mondonico on the front of my homepage, just click on the www below.

This is more about the frame:

it's the Mondonico Futura Legero

I also have a GT Outpost Trail mountain bike used for around town, erands, on the trainer and such.

Hey Denise,
Can you believe the SNOW already and its only mid November. Yuck. (rant) Anyway, can you tell me if you are happy with the job Peter did with your bike? How much experience has he had building womens bikes. I'm short, only 5 feet so I would need a 650 and was wondering if he does that kind of thing and if you had any feelings about the bike. I love the fancy lugs he uses.

Boy, I really believed it riding home from work Friday night, I got tired of knocking crud off my pedals and cogs. By the time I got home only one cog on my cluster was visible, the rest was totally encased in ice. First time in 4 winters of commuting I've had that happen.

Do you use studded tires on your commute bike?

Surlygirl -
I wasn't too happy with the snow either - and each winter seems to get worse! One of these days I'm going to have to move, but for now that's just a dream.

My experience with Peter was good - he did a beautiful job on the bike. He had me bring in my (then) current bike as a starting point so he could see me ride it (on a trainer) and see where it did and didn't work for me. He also did a full set of bike fit measurements. I don't know if does 650 bikes, but I have a hard time believing he doesn't. He's at Belmont Wheelworks (http://www.wheelworks.com) - I believe he's one of the co-owners - and it seems like it would be worth a phone call to ask about the sizing.

Normally I switch to my winter MTB with Nokian studded tires in early December. Right now, it is still being re-wired for my new lighting system: 56 LED truck tail light and 4 amber clearance marker lights, along with a car horn. Being electrically challenged I will be lucky to make it by December. Right now I'm still riding my hybrid with slicks. Jean

*laughs* You are a tiny thing! I've been listening to you talk about shorty shorts and actually being comfortable in those Old Navy low, low rise jeans and figured you had to be =). Alrighty then, my mental picture was correct. I think I'm sposed to hate you, but my T-Mobile induced chub hasn't made me *that* bitter.

This is my friend Joann and I on the Cinderella ride. I picked this shot because it shows best the color of the tandem. It's a chromillusion paint called purpleen. In some light its looks purple, in some it looks teal. This picture shows both, but it's all the same paint.

I've posted Fluffy's picture here some many times. That I figured you all were sick of him. I don't have any pictures of the new mountain bike yet.

Actually, that's not a half bad picture, shutter speed and focal point are actually pretty cool. It's different, whether intended or not. I'm a big fan of Bike magazine cuz damnit, I like pretty pictures that make me wanna ride. Ugh, I need to take some pics of my girl, and my new kid.

Thanks!

We agonized over a color for the tandem. It's a big bike. We talked about fades and flames, all kinds of stuff. But this is cool.

Okay, took my girls over to mom's to make use of her digital camera so please excuse the fact that these pictures are in the living room. :p It's cold in the garage, these girls are house cats now. Wait, how does the Surly keep becoming a girl, it's not even built. Hmmm...

Anyway, this is my beloved Pony, she's an '04 Gary Fisher Big Sur GS for which I take all kinds of greif. "You ride a *Fisher*!?" Bah, I bought the bike that *I* felt good on, not the one that was supposed to be cool. My bad. :D

http://www.geocities.com/princess_smurfalicious/images/ponygirl.JPG

This is my idea of sick and wrong entertainment. I've been staring at these at Wal-Mart since I bought the poor girl. It was only a matter of time before I bought them. If they don't get caught in anything, I'm *so* racing with those on. Gawd, can yall imagine those poor serious racer boys when I unload Pony sporting those? Ah yes, who knew $2.68 could provide so much entertainment, or look so hot with a carbon bar?

http://www.geocities.com/princess_smurfalicious/images/ponysickandwrong.JPG

Oh wait, is this what yall wanted to see? Baby pictures? A'ight, here's the Surly singlespeed. Not pictured is her Avid Single Digit 3 brakes because those are on Pony. Pony pitched a hissy fit when she found out baby got a set of Single Digit 7s, so I told Pony they could trade. Oh come on, like you'd tell *your* first born no!

http://www.geocities.com/princess_smurfalicious/images/surlybaby.JPG

Yep, I'm a proud momma. Once I sell some unused toys to buy the Allez Comp, my family will be complete, and my bike rack full. I'll have to boot my roommate and start storing them in his room.

hee hee hee, i LOVE those!! there's a guy from Mizzou that races with pink streamers! i think it's hilarious... and would love to get some myself, if anything just to see the looks on my teammates' faces-- they whine about how silly they are all the time :D perhaps i'll be making a wal-mart run....

Hey Jody -
Here are some close-up shots of my Peter Mooney bike - at your request! Unfortunately the lighting really doesn't do the color justice - it's a really pretty lavendar / purple!

That is gorgeous! What a beautiful bike and I love the color. Peter certainly does nice work. I would love to have a custom built. Hmmmm. Something to ponder on these long New England winter nights. Thanks for the pics.

This is a pic I took of Thom on Mount Diablo a couple of weeks ago. We have the same mountain bike - except I have a Terry Butterfly on mine. He kept the stock saddle.

So those are our new mountain bikes. We're having a blast - other than my little crash 4 weeks ago. :p

Once again - I'm laughing hilariously at work - so hard I'm crying and the guys think I'm nuts. I LOVE those streamers but the pinwheels took the cake!........you have GOT to take pixs of ppls faces when you unload that bike to race! God bless a sense of humour!

Here is my Road bike. Her name is Carmen (think the lady with fruit on her head. The color is Kandy Mango (not the blue you see here)and I love her.

http://www.bianchiusa.com/556.html

This is my first bike. She is a Giant Sedona DX in white and sandstone. Her name is cloud. I use her to do errands around town and for rail to trail stuff. Sadly, she may be traded in for a Mtn bike before I try the Michigander next July.

hmmmm well, I will post her as soon as I can figure it out!

In the road riding academy I took a few months ago, one of the other students had a Bianchi just like yours.

As snapdragen and I were ohh-ing and ahh-ing over it, someone else mentioned "that's a nice orange", and snapdragen and I both blurted out "that's not orange, that's Kandy Mango!" The owner of the bike was a bit surprised and amused that we would know the actual name of the color ... so thanks for the scoop, Barb ;)

Sweet bike, btw, it was nice to see it in person !
