View Full Version : Sigma Computer
Happy Monday!
Here's my question this morning:
While surfing REI the other night, I came across this computer that has climbing data and such.

The heart rate stuff I'm not so interested in at this point, but knowing how much climbing I'm doing while riding is starting to interest me. So, I'm wondering, has anyone used this one, and did it do a decent job of keeping track for you?
Those Garmins are mighty tempting, but I'm not sure I'm ready to put that kind of money into a bike computer (DH teases that they cost more than his bike!)

I do have a bit of advice in general if you do decide to go with this Sigma...
I have a Sigma that is more basic, with the cadence meter. I am very satisfied with this except for one thing...
I was riding awhile back in major wind and was trying to get the pepper spray lose from my handlebars because of a pooch up ahead. In the process of doing this and trying to figure out which way would be downwind if I had to spray the dog, I knocked my Sigma loose. The computer turns out of the "cage" that holds it on the handlbars so that you can take it in the house, put it on another bike, etc. Anyhow, with the wind, I didn't hear it rattle loose and come off. I was about two miles down the road when I noticed that it wasn't on the bike :( I turned around and spotted it in the middle of the road. Just as I saw it, a huge Suburban rolled over the top of it and smashed it to tiny bits. It was like one of those slow motion movies where I am thinking "NNNNOOOOOO" but can't do a thing about it.
I purchased a second one and used two of my daughters no slip/pull pony tail holders to keep it in place in case I loosen it by accident again.
My advice - if you do get a sigma, put some rubber bands around it to hold it on the bike so it doesn't get knocked lose.
There, I feel better now :D Good luck in your search!

good advice. i was on my first ever supported ride last year in MD (she got bike) and had a 0mph fall. (new to clipless :o) I ended up losing my sigma wireless computer somewhere in the bushes and never found it again. I got another one because I still liked it but I'm constantly checking to make sure it's still there. I will try your fix. peace of mind is a good thing. :D
Thank you, Flybye! That's an important piece of information! I currently have the most basic of Sigma computers, and wouldn't be heartbroken if it got lost, but it wouldn't do to lose a more sophisticated one!
I'm not in a hurry to buy -- there was a coupon that expired yesterday, but since I didn't know it existed, I figured I should do a bit of research and make up my mind for next coupon!

Haha. My Sigma got jammed in it's bracket recently. (Did get it out in the end.)
