first ride on new bike and saddle redux

Just did the first ride out of my immediate neighborhood, a gorgeous path through the park/woods ride...2 miles down a mostly gentle slope and 2 miles up.

I know this is like a hahaha ride for a lot of you...but for me it signals the beginning of my 50th year and is a big stride towards fitness that I thought might never happen to an old "head" person like me. I'm SO thrilled to have rediscovered my own athletic self and to be pushing myself, not out of will but out of desire.

And I am SO glad I brought the Trek back and got this Globe.....I just want to plant big smooshy kisses all over it!!!

More joy: I have not experienced any saddle pain....and I'm wondering if it's this Specialized saddle with the cut out....granted a "stock" saddle and ugly....but I'm kind of amazed. 5 minutes on the other bikes and I'd be Miz Ow-y...but not here.

I had already ordered the Brooks B67 when I thought I was keeping the other bike....but now I think if I want a leather saddle, I should've gotten the An Atomica. (At this point it might just be an aesthetic concern...which is quite important to me!!!)

Very cool! Way to go on the 4 miles!

I did my first 7 mile trip in Los Angeles traffic over to my sister's place. It's funny how I never noticed that terrible hill in my car! It was enough to kick my butt and leave me melting down for a few minutes, but I got up the courage to get myself back into traffic, and I made it to my sister's place. Then we did another 10 miles which ended with a big hill I was determined to conquer (I DID). This weekend was my first attempt at true traffic riding both Saturday and Sunday. I'm proud and the miles will come.

Sounds like a great way to start the second century of your life. Like you, I am a latecomer at fitness; I am almost 56 and before I was 50 I didn't do ANY exercise.

Your bike looks great, congrats on the saddle, sounds like you lucked out.
