Okay, so I know some of you love Peeps. I honestly think I have only had 1 in my life. Now if you ask me about candy corn that is a whole different story. Gosh I am addicited to those things, usually by the time Halloween is here I am sick of them. Granted they are not in 5 food groups, and it can't even be considered a "food" but for some reason I really like them. That is my one weakness this time of year:D

candy corn is not high on my list of foods that i cannot resist.
I do like peeps tho.
we still have some stale ones on top of the fridge for weak moments.
then there is chocolate, one of my daily vitamins.

In 1963, General Mills vice president John Holahan inventively discovered that Circus Peanuts shavings yielded a tasty enhancement to his breakfast cereal. General Mills formalized the innovation and created Lucky Charms, the first breakfast cereal to contain marshmallow bits (or "marbits").

Circus peanuts? No thank you.
Peeps? Ew...please, no. I can stand them if they are stale, but even then...not my first choice for a sugar fix.
Cadbury Creme Eggs? Not if you paid me...those things are NASTY.
But candy corn? Yeah, I like candy corn. I crave it near Halloween and one bag not only lasts the season, but it kills the craving for a whole year!
Didn't I read somewhere that candy corn were actually a good on-bike food? They don't melt and they are predominantly honey? Fast acting glucose at it's halloweeny best! :p

In college a friend of mine fit a circus peanut ever so elegantly into his left nostril. It's a picture I will never forget. I never wanted to eat them before.... and certainly not after!
Candy corn is something I try to resist and I luv the brown-bottom ones. Peeps I dont' have to work so hard at, but I do like the way they sound when I'm crunching that sugar.
I shall munch it all vicariously too,k this week, runningmommy. Tryin' to Be Good This Week.

Well......I have a confession to make.
I ate a whole package of ghost peeps. I couldn't help it. It was calling out to me and it looked lonely sitting on the shelf next to the pumpkin peeps. There are fewer ghost peeps in a package than the pumpkin peeps and I thought to myself that I won't do as much damage with ghost peeps.

Circus Peanuts make me vomit
Candy corn is doable but only a handful at a time
Peeps-have to be the yellow only- and can be eaten day or night, and the staler they are the better they are. They would be my choice of the confectioners world.

I can do without the circus peanuts and cadbury eggs. But I would have to agree with chocolate being on the top of the list. I usually don't endulge in to many sweets, I am not a cookie fan or a cake fan so that leaves chocolate to be my weakness.

Peeps. They have to be stale (learned that from mom!) I have two very well aged ones (a blue and a purple chick) that sit on a shelf in my office right next to a card that a former co-worker gave me depicting a "Marshmallow Chick-aholic Anonymous" meeting. Several years ago said co-worker and I tried to get the Peeps to joust in the office microwave. The powers that be were not amused.

Agreed.
But I'd put them in a slightly different order:
Candy Corn: Ick
Circus Peanuts: Ick, Ick
Peeps: Ick, Ick, Ick.
Candy corn have passed my lips on exceedingly rare occasions, but none of the others. I'd have to be alone on a deserted island first with nothing else to eat.
I have a friend who would only eat peeps when they were left out and stale. Then, they "changed the formula" and NEVER got stale!!! They never hardened up or did whatever made them palatable to her. Just that thought alone made them evem MORE frightening to me to consider as a food item.

Regina, I don't know what peeps your friend is getting, but my peeps still get stale very nicely in about a week of sitting on top of the refrigerator!
no icks here; WE like all that junk. our strategy is to not buy it often so it doesn't become one of the major food groups!!

Guilty pleasure:o -I like to toast my peeps 'til the sugar forms a crispy carmelly crust (like sugar top of creme brulee) and the marshmallow becomes a viscous goo. Dunno but I like it better than regular toasted marshmallows. I have to be very careful not to catch the things on fire or they taste burnt. Uck! It takes a bit of time to get right and usually the first one gets sacrificed because I get too close to the burner. Oh boy! Now my secrets out. :p :D

My chocolate: Callebaut, Guittard, Valrhona. Generally wok with Callebaut 5kilo blocks yummmm.... gooey berry brownies.... yummmm
for finished chocolate goodies: Lindt by far the best for its price.get'em at TJs.
Overpriced but still okay Godiva (it was bought out by Campbell Soup Company) tastes more like nestles than the original Godiva. I miss the old Godiva. I still think it tastes like Nestles maybe because of corn syrup and other non-chocolate stuff. I could of sworn it was owned by Nestles. The explosion of Godivia outlet went from Paris, Brussels and NYC to "on every corner" in the late '70s...

For all you people waiting patiently for your Peeps to go stale on top of the refrigerator:
Put them IN the refrigerator--they reach a state of simulated staleness within an hour or so, AND they're a nice chilled treat (only a Floridian would care about a chilled treat at Eastertime...or Halloween, I realize, but there it is.) This is how the Chief likes them best.
I prefer chocolate myself.

I'd almost say the same thing but I am full of vice. I was in London during Easter once when they were giving out packets of Cadbury eggs with pizza purchase. After the pizza (and obligatory egg) I then went back to my hotel and tried to sleep with the devious little buggers in my room. No such luck, they called to me and I ate them. ALL of them. Candy corn wins for me, hands down.
More like fists up, though. Around this time of year, I typically shove an entire bag in my face over the course of two or three days, fistful after fistful, then realize how sick I feel from the sugar binge, and I swear it off for another year.
But oh, the sheer joy I feel at that first handful in my mouth...what sweet sickness...

20 plus years ago, I used to work in the Candy department in JCPenney. Another form of the candy corn is the different seasonal mellocremes. http://www.dutchvalleyfoods.com/food/ItemDetail.aspx/ItemID/03ba5162-a513-4efd-b79c-5734fbcc45ca I prefer the ones with the faux choco too (mostly the indian corn and thanksgiving mellocremes):D

When I sold candy, we used to sell nuts too. I had people come all the time wanting peanuts and jelly beans and/or peanuts and candy corn/mellocremes I thought EWWW, till I tried it! OMG the perfect combination of salty and sweet with some crunch. Of course I can't have the nuts at all now with the diverticulosis and should avoid the candy with my diabetes, but periodically just have to.
One of my all time favorites this time of year are the old fashioned Mary Janes, or peanut butter kisses. MMMMM, chewy and peanut buttery... http://www.necco.com/OurBrands/Default.asp?BrandID=1

What is a Grow Your Own Skeleton?
It's a teeny skeleton that you put in water, and it grows.

How did I miss this thread?
Candy corn: used to eat some every now and then, but now I won't go near them because 5 years ago I discovered mellowcreme pumpkins, mmmmmm (see below). I find these to be far superior due to their shape and texture, despite tasting nearly identical to candy corn. My rule is no more than 4 a day. The bag must be kept in the pantry, not on the counter, to prevent passing-by-munching.
Peep: love 'em. Around easter I cannot get enough. I was happy to discover that Michael's craft store typically carries peeps for the more obscure holidays, such as Valentine's day and 4th of July. I have had the ghosts and pumpkins, but not the cats. Must track down the cats.
Circus peanuts, interesting, I don't care for these much. But I LOOOOVE lucky charms. I try to eat "adult" cereal most of the time, but every now and then I let myself get a box of lucky charms. If DH is caught eating them he gets the silent treatment for the day.

Gosh, what did I do when I started this thread...I was just wondering peoples opinions. Yes, the pumpkins are great but, what about the HARVEST MIX that has the pumpkins, maple syrup jug, hay stack and I think a bat. Each is a different flavor. I am not a fan of the hay stack, but the maple syrup one is great..

You MUST try combining one part candy corn, one part salted peanuts....wonderful! I used this trick to power me thru a 24 hour race last fall. I'm sure the dieticians would scoff, but my body thrived!

PEEPS! They are far superior to candy corn. :p I sort of want some now. :D Candy Corn is icky. Those pumpkin things sound interesting. :p But...chocolate is the way to go. :D I just bought some dark chocolate from New Seasons, with blueberries in it. It was $4. :O It's really yummy! :D
And this talk of letting the Peeps get stale! I've never heard of that, and it sounds really gross. :p It's also gross that some of them DON'T get stale. :p I'm not sure if I want Peeps anymore or not now. :p
