I'll be out there for Beautiful Backroads. I usually only do the metric so I can save my legs for Six Gap the following weekend. I'm also planning to do the Wilson, most likely the full 100 but need to check with my riding buddies to see what their plans are.

I'll be there next weekend for the Backroads 100 miler. I did the Cartersville Century (my first ever) back in June and I loved it :) .
I have a friend who is trying to talk me into doing the 3 Gap 50, but my legs start hurting just thinking about it...maybe next year.

I'm doing the Wilson this weekend. I was planning on Backroads too, but just realized that it falls on the same day as a holiday that I have to fast on. Doing a century with no food or water is probably NOT a great idea. We'll do an unsupported century the next day, which will also be interesing after a day of fasting... I was really looking forward to it -- I got chased by a horse on the route last year, and I wanna go back and visit the horse!
Edit: Hey Skibum! I haven't seen you - here or in real life in a while! Hope things are going well with you. I think Ken and I are skipping 6-Gap this year - he's got to fly home that evening, and I doubt we'll finish in time. We're thinking about doing just the 6-Gap loop from Turner's Corner the day before - an unofficial 6-Gap, to redeem myself from last year's unofficial 1-Gap...

Hey PW! Yep, it's been awhile since we've crossed paths. I mostly lurk here and seemed to ride more often this summer with just a couple of friends rather than doing the organized rides. I'm sure I'll see you at the Wilson.

Yup. For MILES! Okay, at least two miles!
We were on a twisty rolly section next to a house with a few horses in a field. The big peloton has just passed, and the horses were running around the field in a frenzy. I was in a group of about 20 riders, and i heard what sounded like a flat tire -- phwlap, phwlap, phwlap... I looked around - couldnt see anything. Thought it was a car coming up. Looked back, and suddenly saw a horse! Running along with the riders behind me! They all slowed, but the horse kept coming. I didn't know what to do -- if I slowed to stop, I thought it might run over me - it had a totally wild look in his eyes. So, I kept riding, thinking it would stop -- nope. The phwlap, phwlap, phwlap kept coming. I tried outrunning it - well, that's was just silly. We got to a 'T' intersection, and I thought that surely it would stop. Most of the other riders stayed behind him, but two guys come up beside me and say, "Um, ma'am, we don't mean to startle you, but did you know there was a horse chasing you?" !!!! Sure enough, the horse followed me around the turn. I caught up to another woman and got to deliver the punchline of the day. Usually, you yell "car back" when one is coming up behind you. "Horse back!!!!" We got to a decent downhill section, and I was able to get good distance on him. At the next reststop, the riders behind this said that when we passed another field with horses, this one slowed up and stopped by the fence, and eventually someone said the owner came and got him - assumed that when the big group went by, the horse got so excited that he just jumped his fence.
By the way -- the Wilson 100 was just wonderful! Great route, good food and reststops, and the weather was perfect! I loved the ride this year!
